I could listen to him all day long describing his music. Love the song too. Always did. I was in college when this came out and played it over and over. Styx my favorite band all time and IT's not even close but it is interesting to see how my tastes in music has changed over time. I am really into the earlier Styx albums as i get older, in 1987/1988 never wanted to hear that stuff. Great catalog and should be very proud of the material...hey I named my daughter "Lorelei" : )

Great song and done BEFORE Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire." DDY is always cutting edge stuff. Great thinker, great musician and the soul of Styx.
It says formerly of Styx. Dennis IS STYX!! The band going around using that name is a tribute to the genius that is Dennis DeYoung.

Bugs Bunny is one of those popular cartoon characters as well, and I wish it would have been really cool to see Bugs Bunny in this music video at the same time.

The 'Woody Wood Pecker' View Master caused me to have the most HORRIFIC, but colorful, nightmare imaginable !! Woody was evil, flying around my room chasing me, trying to peck at my head. It was vibrant, VERY colorful, reds and blues mostly. anyhow, great interview, great memories but too short (the interview) !!

Dennis DeYoung just to ask you, how come you never had the idea to put Mickey Mouse in this music video of boom child ?
Because at the beginning of this song, you do mention Mickey Mouse. In which he was one of the popular characters back in the 1950s, ever since 1928 from his debut cartoon Steamboat Willie. Which also happened to be the world's first cartoon to use sound effects. And of course everything that you wrote in this song is dedicated to all of the cool things, and society back in the 1950s.
How come that you didn't add any cartoon footages of Mickey Mouse in this music video ?
It really were to be cool if you were to add Mickey Mouse on this music video, this music video would have been a lot popular if Mickey Mouse could have been on this video as well

Dennis needs to respond and respect his fans, like he always did since the hay days of Styx.
I don't know if Dennis had respond and replied to all of his fans that wrote him so many comments and questions etc, on his UA-cam videos and his UA-cam channel.
But I know some of his fans haven't got any response and replies from Dennis yet, and I know how much those fans are desperately waiting for that. Including myself, because we just want our dreams to come true.

This seems like the best place to ask- Why is there no Boomchild album available on a digital platform? My vinyl is great, but it doesn’t really work for the car. UA-cam and its commercial interruptions suck and I’d like to avoid. I have the DD greatest hits digital album, but the original Boomchild album in song order is what I’d like. I’m sure I’m not the only one!
The guy who wrote the song Rt 66 was Dr Joe Early on the 1970's TV show Emergency, who happened to be married to the nurse on the show.

Love the song and video Boomchild! Makes sense why you wanted Beneath the Moon as the single -I love so many songs on the album, and Beneath the Moon is my favorite!
The song Boomchild makes me look back with longing on the decade when we grew up -before the pitfalls of social media, drastic political polarization, etc etc. That seemed like a time of innocence, maybe just because we were kids. Dang right we live in a confusing time now, but watching this video and hearing Boomchild again-with its relatable awakenings brought on by national and world disasters-gives us inspiration and hope as we raise our growing family.
Dennis, next time tell us something a bit more interesting like writing "Mother Dear" with John C or the day you got your Oberheim 4-Voice!
Hello Dennis, just watched your interview with Rock History Music. Glad to see that you are wise to the "climate change" agenda, and exactly what their deception is all about. Since you are from Chicago, I had you pegged for just another sheep, but it appears that I was in error. Always glad to see others that fully understand what's happening in this fallen world. I would love to see you write a song about the subject of their nefarious deception.
I noticed this is the second version of the video. The original version had "The Beatles" on the bass drum skin near the three minute mark which is now covered up by a toaster. There's also another video of this song which exactly same video as this one but has a remix of this song called Boomchild (Nouveaux Ver.)

Saw the band on the Kilroy tour here in your Canadian home in Montréal at the Forum. One of the best live shows ever. That was the last time I saw Styx in person. I was lucky to see you three more times again in Montréal with your band playing your hits because you are Styx. The others who call themselves Styx are imposters. Yes they were part of the band and as much as I love Lawrence Gowen, he is not Styx.

As I lived in Liverpool 62-65 I was influenced by your fave band too Dennis! I am a Boomchild too, "when I'm 64" LOL.That said I absolutely love this video, it is very creative. I was a DJ in the 70s and 80s and watched the birth of MTV like you did. I have seen all the greats except the Beatles and saw you in HIGH School in 1975, and a couple of other times. This song reminds me of Billy's "We didn't start the Fire" just with the names! Did you know Walt Disney was scared to death of mice, hence Mickey? Woody was a nice touch. Please come back to Vancouver, the kids said Elton and the Who's 50th will be hard to beat? I told them you have to see the CREATOR of STYX! The other's can go to hell. On another note, Dolly instead of you??? She has a lot of class to give them a polite FU! Best wishes to you, keep on Rocking!!!
Thanks Dennis for sharing the story behind this video, the song and the album it comes from! The song and the album is one of my favorites from your solo catalog. "Harry's Hands", "What a Way to Go", Outside Looking In Again" are also excellent songs on the album. As to wanting to see a rare video of you performing Boomchild live, from the fans (at least me) the answer would be HECK YEAH!! I'm sure fans would love to see any rarities you are willing to share. As always, I hope you and the family are doing well. Last but not least, CONGRATULATIONS on your upcoming induction into the Illinois Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum. Not only for your accomplishments with STYX but as a songwriter as well. You and the others undoubtedly deserve the recognition!!!
Had the privilege of seeing the opening night of Hunchback in Milwaukee last Friday. The performance was awesome and DDY's music is beyond fantastic and inspiring. He also attended that night and was gracious as usual.

'Boom Child' and 'Proof of heaven' to me are the 2 most vintage Styx type songs outside of Styx. 'Harries hands' is a great song too, it reminds me a lot of 'This Old Man'.

What Paul said about losing innocence was really powerful. Didn’t think I’d know that feeling at 14 losing my dad. It’s true, my childhood ended that day.
I loved learning about the references made in the video. I of course learned about Kennedy in my history class, but didn’t catch the references to him in the song and I guess the true extent on the impact of his assassination never occurred to me, probably because I haven’t experienced it.

I really enjoyed this even though I wasn't at all familiar with this song or video. And Dennis explains why that is. The song never really got any support from the record company after Irving Azoff (who signed Dennis) left. This is why there is always a degree of luck and timing involved in all success despite the talent of the artist. Thank you for doing this Dennis. Love hearing these details!

When I first saw this music video on the internet, mainly on UA-cam. All of a sudden when I saw Woody woodpecker show up out of nowhere, I went crazy and I was so excited. Because I am a cartoon fan, and Woody woodpecker is one of my favorite number one cartoon characters.

Don Henley says Irving didn't like him. Since Irving signed him to MCA, it appears DON was right!
Don Henley also hated David Gilmour for stealing Pink Floyd from Roger Waters. Don Henley also hated Van Halen and Irving managed Van Halen as of 2001.

(He should have served time for statutory rape.) However, it seems kind of silly to say that he HATED Gilmour "because he stole Pink Floyd from Roger". The matter was settled in court. Perhaps, he didn't like the verdict, but why would he HATE Gilmour for a court decision he disagreed with? If he hates Gilmour for that, I can't imagine how you might describe his feelings for Don Felder which would undoubtedly be much more intense?

In fact David Gilmour was also disrespectful to Tommy Shaw calling him a redneck troll. Roger Waters on the other hand was cordial to Tommy and is a friend of Henley’s. Roger was a jerk to Van Halen.

He also said Azoff is a dumb little Jewish bum and he wishes that Irving passed instead of Steve O’Rourke (Pink Floyd’s manager). Roger Waters on the other hand has nice things to say about Azoff and is a close personal friend of Henley’s.
I'm not a fan of Dennis' solo albums and Tommy's were no better! Damn Yankees was a great move for Tommy. Their first album was a classic and they were awesome in concert. And when they made fun of Babe, it was funny. I don't think Tommy was trying to hurt Dennis, but he should have known that Dennis is highly sensitive!

Dennis you are a inspiration and gem of a human being. LIving proof you can keep doing what you love if you take care of yourself well into a age most would not expect a singer to be able to still perform at the same level as earlier in his career. Sorry to hear about the Tommy Shaw timing issue; however Damn Yankees put out some amazing music, one of my favorite bands along with Styx...very different kind of rock but each great.
