YES!!!! I used to play this on the jukebox while eating a slice of pepperoni at my local pizza joint. The place sat on a little incline. I could look out across the neighboring shopping center and see the projects where we lived. I remember thinking "that's home." Never again. Either way, great song.
Isn’t that how life usually works … people drift in and out of your life from the past … reminiscing for a few fleeting moments in time … then those folks drift away again. Sometimes they return … sometimes … you keep the memories alive in your heart … your mind. One day you catch a song on the radio … much like Desert Moon. The cobwebs are swept away … and you are again with those folks from years past. For a few moments …. Time reverses and all those emotions come back.
Sorry for your loss. I'm glad you have great memories of her from a great song * great group! May God give you strength & encourage you in your daily life ! I have witnessed so many amazing things from Reading the Bible & from things that only God could of done ! God bless!
My dad passed away on 12/18/2022, he loved this song. We had it playing along with the slide show of all his pictures. He had an old 63 white chevy similar to the video. That's why he like the song. Rip dad. Love you.
To the person that reads this, I ask the Lord to bless them and their family, to cure them of every sickness and pain, to fill their emptiness with love joy and peace, to rebuke the enemy from their lives. My college roommate and I watched the world premiere of this video on MTV in 1984. After the opening scene, Jim turned to me and said: "I had no idea where they were going with that." After this video, anytime we'd say "where are you going" the answer was always: I don't know, maybe Chicago. Great song, great video, great memories.

Hey Dennis, I just wanted to sincerely wish you a very Happy 77th Birthday, and thank you for being SO good to us on the Styx tours ❤ We love you Dennis! (and the rest of Styx, too) I truly hope it happens, but if it doesn't, IT DID and it was a fun ride 🙏

I never would have admitted it as a 15 year old in 84, but I loved this song and video. When he gave that cherry ‘65 to his brother, even back then, the tears came. It’s crazy. I was 15, never had a girlfriend or been in love, but this song me made long for a time I had yet to experience. In the four decades since, love has come and gone many times. And every time, I find myself revisiting this song. THAT, friends, is the hallmark of good writing, a little cheesy for some, but some of those lyrics simply rip at the pieces of my heart. Thanks Dennis…
Well said. Always takes me back to the 80s while in my teens. No cell phones. Had to call a girl on the phone to communicate with her. Dont get me wrong. Im now with a wife and kids and wouldnt change it for the world. But, what I wouldnt give to go back to the late 1980s one more time.
I miss my little brother he passed away last year. He said that when I went in to the navy. He would play my old Lp in my old room and think about me. I sure miss him and I think about him all the time.
To all who reminiscing their childhood/teenage days while watching and listening to this beautiful nostalgic song, I wish you all happiness and the best of life
This is the only song I was able to learn to play on my Casio keyboard. The 80's was the greatest decade of my lifetime as I am now in my 60's and no other decade came close to the great times I had back then.
Ditto. This song holds a lot of meaning for me, bringing back memories of carefree times-high school days, surrounded by my friends. Definitely appreciate your comment. 😊

So sorry about your Mom. You can be sure that she will be watching you now. She will be saying: Do good in the world! Don't remember me now. Just do good in the world. Make a difference.
This song came out when I was a teen. Just a kid. Now I'm 51 and I can say this song and video, in an extremely simplistic way, summarizes life. You'll never forget that first love. Going home and visiting the old spots is sweet and sad at the same time. You realize everything that used to be is no longer. Good buddies are still good buddies though. That never changes. The same jokes and stories will always be told and shared decade after decade as long as there's time to get together and talk.
Yes your right, I am already 51 but for me it seems like it's only yesterday, I always remember old friends sharing dreams together, this kind of songs made us realized that time passed by and we can never turn back it's only the memories
Oh so true chris. Those were the days of my first love as well. And as an old guy now, I agree with you ever so much. After your first love, you don't ever quite love a woman like that again. Oh to be back in those wonderful carefree days of the 80's.
The 80's were the best. Everybody gets all nostalgic about their own favorite era, but think about it. Technology was pretty decent without being intrusive and overbearing. A person could still make mistakes in life and overcome them without being hounded by those mistakes for a lifetime, or being publicly crucified within seconds for making them. It wasn't perfect, but with all of the thought policing that goes on nowadays (say what you like, but it is 1000x times worse and more Orwellian than it was back then), relentlessness of technology, toxic cynicism, etc....I'd go back today if I could, in a heartbeat. A person could work hard, study, build a life and get ahead, improve their lot in life. Health care was pretty decent. Again, not going to get drawn into ridiculous and pointless debates about details that I think (yep, I'm less than perfect) are comparatively petty, or the obvious imperfections of the universe versus our own unrealistic expectations, etc. Smart phones and the internet are great, sure, but a person could still make his/her way in the world just fine back then....and live, and love. Paper maps, phone books, a little effort and dive into the mysteries of the open road (to mix a few metaphors lol). Sure, I'm happy now...but it is increasingly the case that I'm happy in spite of "things," not because of them. The world was indeed a better place back then. Rant and flame away....either you get what I'm saying, or you don't. I'm not here to convince anyone of anything. Peace, y'all...and '85 forever!
2024 that's me. Love this song. I know Dennis never wanted a solo career, but he was fantastic alone. He would have made it for sure. Love the hair colour too.
This music video was filmed in Santa Paula, CA in Ventura County. The Train Depot is still there and looks pretty much like it did when this video was filmed 36 years ago.
Since you mentioned it, had to googled it.. having seen it, now i'm having more connection to the song & the music video.. good stuff.. thanks for the info..
I heard this song in Home Depot yesterday. I literally froze and just listened to this memory of my youth. My mind flashed back to my first girlfriend and how she and I would just drive around aimlessly for hours without a single care in the world. What I wouldn’t give to be young again riding around with her in my 1983 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 convertible once again. I miss her. I miss that car. I miss my youth!!!!
It's the down side of loving music as much as we do 👍❤️ We associate so much of our lives to the songs throughout the years of lives But for all the tea in China I wouldn't change this personality trait , and I guess neither would you Love from Ireland 👍
The 80s without a shadow of doubt the greatest ever decade musically wise especially up to mid 80s. The music, ,bands ,solo artists, ,the images, the contrast in music, the originality we will not see its like again. Anyone who grew up in this era know exactly what I'm talking about. Even TV Miami Vice etc Movies, Breakfast Club ,Ferris Bueller,Sixteen Candles, etc .Hard to put into words what a special time it was but those of us who were there know exactly how special it was.The furtherwe go awayfromthe 80s the more we realisee how lucky and privilegedwe were to have been there. We will not see its like again. .Thank goodness for UA-cam for giving us the opportunity to revisit those times that make us happy and sad at the same time yearning for a truly fabulous era.
@@jaraza323 All those you named could not hold a candle to the music of the 60s..70s..80s...those people you named are not singers..but just show people..sorry.
I totally agree with you. To me, the great decades of music were the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. The quality of music went significantly downhill in the early 90s and got even worse in the 2000s.
I look it up on a regular. I'm actually a young head far as STYX goes. I'll be 50 Nov 25th. Run DMC/NWA cat but this song is a whole different beast! Def Leppard my all time favorite next to Beastie Boys. This jam alone took me back to all the 80s greatest 💖👑🎯💯🔥💙
I've been making UA-cam playlists of my off-the-radio mix tapes from the early 80's. This is now added to the list from a tape from October-December 1984 when I was recording a bunch of songs off of MTV. I discovered if I connected the cable TV wire to my dual-cassette recorder antennae I could get the audio from MTV on an FM frequency with a good enough quality to record it.
This song brings me back to a time when life was simpler. My heart aches for those times. When there was no twitter or Facebook or Zoom. The music was the soundtrack of our lives. It told a story. How I miss those days. If only we could go back...today seems so divided, harsh and empty...
I honestly think anyone who was a teen or young adult in the 80s would go back in a heartbeat and stay there --- we've seen nothing in this world since 2000 but bitterness and anger and people not wanting to hang out with each other anymore --- those of us who grew up in the 70s and 80s remember the good times portrayed in this video --- when all you needed was some good friends and some backyard BBQ and football to put a smile on your face --- nobody gave a shit about looking at a stupid little screen filled with hateful messages!
I am proud to say I lived the 80s and watched this video as I just arrived to study college in USA. Unforgettable 80s and music that made us who we’re. I feel sorry for any generation that didn’t live the 80s music.
I moved to Ormond beach Florida with my family in summer of 1986. Oh my, what times my brother and family had it was such an adventure for a 20 year old who hadn’t lived much yet. My brothers are gone now, and I miss them. This song always takes me back to that time and place.
You realize there is no “virus”, right? It’s just the flu! The DemocRATS created this plandemic in order to change voting laws to ensure Trump didn’t win a second term. People are sooooo gullible. Stop being a SHEEP! Live your damn life and ditch the f**king mask.
My mom was a teenager way back in 1984/1985 here in the Philippines. She used to hear this song in a disco during the feast day in her province or the place province of her uncle. She was only 16 years old that time, and now she's 55 already.. She misses being a teenager until she heard this song after many years and she heard it again in our radio here in the Philippines 🇵🇭 📻 🎧
Me too, …I was in college when I first watched this video I wasn’t able to grasp the meaning behind the scenes and the lyrics….and years later when all the things changed and I watched it again and burst into tears and cry every time watching it ever since….
I miss those days. It hurts so much. I miss my mom. The summer air. My friends the freedom. The sound of cicadas on a hot summer day with nothing to do. Peace y’all. Glad I was around in the 80s.
in my 13 year's young mind, when I first heard this song and saw the video, was what wonderful place America was! where friends were cool, beers were plenty, the girls and the cars, and the big blue sky and wide open spaces.
70s 80s nothing comes close nothing!!! The 50s 60s generation will say the same. People don't even look you in the eye when they are talking to you any more to busy on their mobile phones. Today sucks big time. And don't get me started on the music of today. YUK!!!!! Music died in 1994..The 70s 80s such a beautiful time to grow up in. Born in 1969 Australia
I lost my little brother last year. When I went to the military he said that he played my Lp on my stereo in my old room, and would think of me I sure miss him.
One of those lost treasures from the 80s. More specifically one, if not the greatest year for music... 1984. This song is so poignantly, achingly special. Makes my eyes fill up every time. Thanks Dennis for this song. I will cherish it always.
June 11, 2024. I love 80s. Graduated in high school in 1982 in the Philippines. Best high school life. Musics, friends, happy people. Old good times and now oldies 😂😂😂
Great memories with this song.... Summer 1984, newlywed and moved away from "home" starting a new life. Awakened EVERY morning at 4:45 to this song playing on WAV104 FM, Myrtle Beach SC....
I heard this song the other day driving around my old hometown and I pulled into the lot of my old middle school and just closed my eyes and listened and thought of all the times I had at that school back in the 80s... What a life we had as children growing up in that decade...all the memories that ran through my mind as this song played...I remembered all the times we played ball on that field...all the school dances...all the trouble we got into...and I remembered kissing you Tanya for the first time...my first kiss at age 11...we thought we were so in love...It was all so innocent and we were kids and we didn't have a care in the world...I am sorry kids these days will not have any of that...we were so lucky
There I was standing in the 80's. The prime of my life, and not even knowing it. I just thought it was going to go on forever. It just went by too fast.
@@joelmoreno1241 Same here, my friend! We were very lucky! I only wish my hair would have made it this far with me. haha. Oh, well, there are worse things in life. I hope all is well with you and your loved ones.
We still dont have electricity in our community when i first heard this song. We only relied on a battery powered radio and listened it thru our community' fav fm station. And i was still just a kid by that time. Now, i have 3 grand kids. And i still love to listen to this song.
Another 80's memory sparked by the magic of our music from that era. "When we were young .. We were dreamers" Love you Annette S ... You were so unattainable and yet so highly favored. Here's to our teenage years my love ✨
I LOVE this song. And I love the part when he's asleep on the bed in his childhood room, with the picture of his high school girlfriend on the nightstand. Haven't we all had an experience like that? Really lovely...
Summer of 1984...........I will remember this summer and this song until I leave this world. Love you Dennis, please keep doing videos, you are a hero of my youth, I now feel so old, when I see you do things online it makes me feel a little less old and a little more still relevant. Styx rocked, you still rock. I was 13 when this album was released. Dennis, most of your fans are younger than you. I am close to your age, we will not remain relevant forever, but I treasure all you work, both solo and the ones with Styx.
It is a wonderful song, isn't it? I first heard this when I was coming out of a very dark time of my life. This song made me realize that life had possibilities beyond the crap I had known.
Totally agree. This is my favorite video of all time. It’s beautifully put together, hits exactly the right spot. Dennis DeYoung once said the video may be better than the song. Maybe so. Regardless, that last verse, man … whew. 😢
“I still can hear the whispers of a summer nights” is the lyric. But, yeah, I get it. It’s a great lyric. When someone tells me to go to my happy place, I close my eyes and think about driving around aimlessly in my white 1983 Audi Quattro with my first girlfriend, blaring songs like this on my Blaupunkt stereo with Alpine speakers. “Those were the best days of my life”, to quote Bryan Adams.
My little brother said that he would listen to the song in my old room on my old stereo when I went to the Navy and thing about me. Well he is gone now, I miss my little brother. I think about him all the time. He was everyones favorite.

Thanks to all those great 70s bands like Styx, who trucked on through the 80s! Without them it would have been pretty desolate.
1980's: Music stores, yes!
But, there was no youtube!

2024 that's me. Love this song. I know Dennis never wanted a solo career, but he was fantastic alone. He would have made it for sure. Love the hair colour too.

I dream about the 80's. Man I miss those days.
This music video was filmed in Santa Paula, CA in Ventura County. The Train Depot is still there and looks pretty much like it did when this video was filmed 36 years ago.
I have always wondered where it was filmed at. Thank you!

👍🏻
It's the down side of loving music as much as we do 👍❤️
We associate so much of our lives to the songs throughout the years of lives
But for all the tea in China I wouldn't change this personality trait , and I guess neither would you
Love from Ireland 👍

No doubt that 80's are the most Unforgettable memories of Music Industry 🙌
Unforgettable
Amen..
No doubt indeed
The 70s were magic.
The 80's was the last great decade of music. Music went downhill after that and has not recovered. Great song and video.
How can you say that?? We have lady gaga, nikki minaj, miley cyrus and lil wayne
@@jaraza323 All those you named could not hold a candle to the music of the 60s..70s..80s...those people you named are not singers..but just show people..sorry.
@@musicray65 i was just joking.. Music today SUCKS!! 70s n 80s music Rocks!!
I mostly agree with your statement.
To me music began to take a turn for the worse during the mid nineties.
I totally agree with you. To me, the great decades of music were the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. The quality of music went significantly downhill in the early 90s and got even worse in the 2000s.

Our 70s and 80s music was the biggest difference. The 80s news media was fairly civil, not vindictive and vitriolic.
You are so right! Very well stated.
There's no going back. If there was, we would all be back there.
I remember listening to this song in 1984, i was 19 year old soldier stationed at Ft. Sill. I miss those days, to be young again.
I so miss the 80's! Best time of my life!
yup...best time I vaguely remember...lol

I am proud to say I lived the 80s and watched this video as I just arrived to study college in USA. Unforgettable 80s and music that made us who we’re. I feel sorry for any generation that didn’t live the 80s music.
So do I. They missed out on a helluva party!

I moved to Ormond beach Florida with my family in summer of 1986. Oh my, what times my brother and family had it was such an adventure for a 20 year old who hadn’t lived much yet. My brothers are gone now, and I miss them. This song always takes me back to that time and place.

My favourite part of the song is, I still can hear the echoes of the summer nights, it echoes in the corners of my heart. 👍
