Such a nice informative video! I am someone who is about to enroll in the Springboard bootcamp to transition from Structural Engineering into the Cybersecurity world. Your channel has been a huge resource of information for me and I greatly appreciate it!
Wow thank you so much Jordan! :) I really appreciate your support and I’m glad these videos are helpful for you! Lmk if there’s any other video topics you’d like to see, good luck in your bootcamp 😁😁
Excellent video - you pretty much covered the gamut here. Depending on the organization, SOC analysts are likely to have tiers of responsibilities - from triaging an alert queue to dedicated Incident Management roles where senior level analysts basically handle larger breaches, may specialize in malware analysis, etc. You also hit the nail on the head when it comes to the potential downsides. This role can be repetitive, stressful, and have chaotic operational tempo with oddball hours. Folks who gravitate toward this work and want to do it long term vs. using it as a stepping stone to learning other disciplines, need to be ok with this.
Thanks so much for watching! :) And I really appreciate your candidness on the actual day to day of the job bc it can get pretty repetitive depending on the type of alerts/logs you're watching for. Just want to make sure those who are interested know the highs and lows of the job lol, thanks again for your insight!
As always, your content is great. I been an analyst for 3 years now. We currently use Microsoft Defender for our edr. A video for about PowerShell obfuscation or JavaScript obfuscation would be cool. A Blue teamish video...just an idea :)
If you say I believe there is a certification out there for incident response that means most likely you never bothered to get it yourself so why push it on newbies ?
Hello Sandra! Your channel is very insightful in this career field, and it's helping me choosing cybersecurity as a career. I am applying to a cybersecurity Bootcamp this year. And by watching your videos, I've just discovered MOOC, which I had never heard of before. Thank you so much for the contents, knowledge and experience in cybersecurity. I also followed you on IG. Lol
I have some interest in Cyber Security, but I have no experience with anything involved in the role. I am completely on the outside. Is there anywhere I can go to see a day in the life Of a Cyber Analyst before I commit 3K-8K on training? I need to see if my basic interest holds up before I commit a large sum of money. Also, can this job be done at home? A huge plus for me would be working from a home office combined with the salary and how cool cyber security seems. Thank you in advance for any answers.
Hello Sandra! Thank you for creating such great content! I've been looking for a SoC analyst position. Would you know any good labs that I could do and put on my resume to help showcase experience? Thank you!
Hi Sandra! I'm new to the cybersecurity field and your videos have inspired me to go for a SOC analyst position in the future. While I'm preparing my security + cert, I also want to get more informed about current cybersecurity news and issues. Can you please share information about the feedly blogs you follow? I would greatly appreciate it and best of luck to you!
I am about to graduate the cyber security bootcamp at SMU. If you need structure and not sure what area you like this is a great bootcamp to go into. You get hands experience with numerous programs used in the field. One of the main jobs to obtain is SOC analyst through this bootcamp.
Hi! I have zero background in cyber security but am interested. I have a background in software engineer, Python to be specific, and will start studying for Comptia Security+ certification. After passing, do you think that’s enough to start applying for SOC Analyst positions?
As someone who is transitioning out of cyber after 11 years, I would ask if you've considered Burger King instead? That to me sounds far more enjoyable and fulfilling than cyber. I hope to be completely out of the cyber game by June 2023. Just don't know quite yet what to replace it with.
Staring at a computer screen all day sounds boring to me. I don't wanna be stuck in an office desk all day. I'm taking Cybersecurity in college and worried I'm gonna burn out quick. Considering changing my major to maybe PC repair or mobile development. Can anyone please give me some advice? I'm more a creative person so I'm not sure if I should change majors.
Is having it help desk skills necessary for transitioning into becoming an SOC analyst? I ask because all the research I've done on CyberSecurity has basically told me to get some help desk experience first. I work in public service as a judiciary clerk and am already familiar with assisting the public so I'm covered on the hospitality part of help desk. What do you suggest when it comes to requisite prior knowledge?
Thank you for watching! SOC analyst roles are definitely popular for entry level but i think with your 2 yrs of experience you’ll definitely be able to find something quickly! Good luck with your interviews Srini!
I just finished my cyber security technical certificate. I can do more later to make it a associate but I really like to work. I am just nervous about my first job. I been taught a little of different things networking , coding , network protocols , IT hardware software stuf f , some Linux and cloud computing . Just feel I need more hands on practice for it to sink in good. Is it still possible to work and train at this point ?
Yes you can work and train at the same time if your up for it. I work fulltime, go to school and also serve in the reserves. Make a schedule for yourself

I list a few in my video on cyber securiry bootcamps here: Can you Find a Job With a Bootcamp in 2022: Coding Bootcamp Programs Worth It or Not| Cyber Security ua-cam.com/video/UtqAlMBYNao/v-deo.html Otherwise, I’d just make sure the bootcamp has either corporate partners that hire from them directly or some kind of ISA or similar agreement that ensures the bootcamp also helps you find a job after you graduate and you’re not left on your own, they cost more but are well worth it to get a better guarantee of being hired afterwards, good luck!!
Hi Amber, thanks so much for watching! Yes, I have no idea why my subtitles are in Vietnamese.. it's auto-generated by YT, I'll be submitting a support ticket to figure that out lol, I appreciate your support!
Thanks so much for watching Gulira! Depending on the level/tier SOC analyst role, you may need intermediate Linux skills if you’re working with log analysis and general linux commands during your day to day job, creating cron jobs, bash scripting, setting deploying your own linux boxes, etc. You may be doing some of these in your role but it really depends on the team and the tier/level you’re hired at, good luck!!😁

A SOC analyst is more or less a triage nurse and receptionist. All you do is advise others that the buck has arrived and pass it onto them, this will eventually be automated to within an inch of its life. In the meantime it's the perfect landing ground for these career-changing bootcamp graduates - who totally aren't all trained to an identical standard, totally aren't saturating the entry level, and are totally bossing the age old problem of there not being enough experienced senior talent and more difficult roles still left unfilled. Certainly not.
