    Being able to compromise is key in cyber security. Not everything can be done like what you read in a textbook. Certain controls will break your systems. But you still have to protect them. Finding alternate ways of doing things becomes your entire job.

    My long time friend landed himself a career in this and is already making almost 100k within 2-3yrs. Same! I’m currently serving active duty and although I love being in the Army, I work long hours, do a lot of cross training, additional duties, and fulfilling multiple leadership roles while making pennies in comparison to this. I can honestly half of that in the Reserves, part time, while making this my full time career. I am so interested in this field and excited about my transition. Prepping for it now as I have one more year to fulfill my contract.

      @@nicoleenesse I have an important question on this, I don't have the money to go get a 4 year degree or the time for that really and I'm struggling to find decent 2 year associate degree programs. Where can I go, what can I do to try and get into this. I have some prior experience in networking and telecommunications, and got a comptia A+ cert so I have basic knowledge but what avenue should I take to begin learning this and start within decent time frame even if that is 2 years? I would greatly appreciate any advice.

    Great video. Have A+, N+, and sec+. Been in the industry for 8 months. Was planning getting into more of a blue team role. But decided to go for more of a risk management role instead (end game is CISSP). This video helped. Here in Cali, help desk role is $24 (my current rate) I noticed some SOC positions getting less. So, thank you for stating that SOME analysis positions are entry level.

      Aye bruh I jus passed my Sec+ and I’m tryna get my foot in the door, I’ve always been a computer geek so I passed this with nothing but a couple Practice tests but I can’t go to college cuz I’m broke as hell so now I’m just trying to figure out what I need to do to eventually be in an analyst role. Do I start out as help desk then just grind my way up or do I try to find volunteer work? Any tips gonna help bro

    • @christianjavier1776
      @christianjavier1776 3 роки тому +8

      @@SuperWubDub First off, congrats on getting Sec+, that time and money will be an investment you WILL see. I would recommend applying for the Help Desk role. Think of the Help Desk as a paid internship. You will apply most of what you learned from Sec+ like application hardening, etc. However, if you want to investigate PCAPs then Help Desk is not the place for you. You will need to find out what YOU want to do in infosec. Everything is tied together, however, some people have higher skills in different subjects. To get a job in help desk with no experinece you will need to SELL YOURSELF. Show that you are willing to learn and keep growing. The cert gets you to the interview. It's up to you to nail the interveiw. Best of luck.

      The technical jobs are not the ones that pay or have vertical potential. If you just want to be someone's toolmonkey all day you will get nowhere. The real money is in governance and program management along the analyst to CISO track. Top level CISOs make 330k a year. Being a technical role will limit you to the tech you're using, and in the specific role you're using it in. If you're managing the entire program, you're not as limited. So, I would say you're looking at it backward.

    Right now I'm an IT admin for 6 months. I do a lot of cybersecurity work (monitoring for phising emails, monitoring weird APs on the network, security campaigns etc...) Do you think this would be a good place to jump into a cybersecurity analyst role? Or should I be aiming for a little bit higher tier title in the security realm?

    Although it is frequent to read about the enormous demand of cyber security, I have read several times that is not that easy because it is seen as a sector that makes no money to the company, which one is the correct one? Also I would like to ask about working overseas with cyber security, how easy would be if for instance you want to relocate to let's say Australia or Switzerland?

    • @nicoleenesse

      You will always shadow someone...but you never know!!

    • @silverqic

      Its both. Usually, they are aware that you are entry level. Ideally you should be guided but you should also continue to learn more and more about your company and networks. Continue to learn security issues new and old, software, etc. While working to secure your company's network you need to keep up-to date on all things security..
