I think maybe new swifties should know at least a little bit that she struggled with an eating disorder during this time just so people have some background info. With a trigger warning of course
@@izzys.galaxy I considered that, but I honestly don’t think it’s necessary to know before hearing 1988 TV. Tay covers it in her doc so I’d rather people hear it from her than me 🫶
@@AllySheehanhi ally!! I love your vids 14s ago :)
Hey Ally. Love watching your channel. I loved introducing my granddaughters to Taylor. The oldest even made it to the Red Concert. Hey Ally, is it difficult getting the cardigans when they are released? Have you heard if there will be a 1989 Cardi? Is there a way to be notified so you don’t miss out? Thanks Ally ❤
@@AllySheehan okay that’s totally understandable!! :)
in my opinion, 1989 is a two side album.
for example,
side a: new york
1. welcome to new york
2. blank space
3. all you had to do was stay
4. shake it off
5. i wish you would
6. bad blood
7. how you get the girl
8. new romantics
side b: beach
1. style
2. out of the woods
3. wildest dreams
4. this love
5. i know places
6. clean
7. wonderland
8. you are in love
Omg this is the most accurate thing i've ever read
How did you just NAIL that? Like, so accurate!

I'm so excited for reputation (Taylor's Version) because of the amount of TEA that Ally would be able to spill in a 40+ minute video 😂
i think she will need 2 videos
@@eunoiia7213FR there so much tea about rep there’s no way she can spill all of that in 1 vid without the vid being 2+ hours long.
YES
@@rmehudefinitely!
She just announced Rep TV!❤
the media portrayed her spotify boycott as this money hungry move but completely ignored the fact that it had nothing to do with her and her money but she was advocating for all artists and especially smaller artists!!!
To say I've lived this Era the best would be an understatement! I attended the 1989 Secret Sessions and turned 16 when I moved to New York for the first time...That was definitely a MOMENT
Iconic
Oh my gosh you did it RIGHT!! Tell us everything!
Omg how was the secret sessions?
WOWOWWWW im so fucking intrigued by people who went to secret sessions!!!
@@AllySheehanI would love to tell you everything but unfortunately UA-cam has blocked my answer thrice...(something seems fishy). I am really sorry
Knowing now that Taylor was struggling a lot during the 1989 era (her body image issues, RED not winning album of the year, her obsession with being loved and being perfect, it not being too long after the SA at the radio station as well as adjusting to a new city and image) the secret sessions, taylurking and buying christmas presents make so much sense. Getting to see and interact with normal people who in addition to just being normal people with normal lives, also loved her? It must have been such a break from her actual life and so so refreshing
32 year old 1989 Taylor’s Version irl era has also been hot girl summer. She’s been out shining w all the friends for the past few months. It’s really reminded me of 2013-2015 Taylor! I love seeing her smile so huge and genuinely these days.
She’s 33..
Yes! 🙌
@@DoubleBlack2.0 omg! Whoops! You’re right. I’m 32 and she’s 33 now. I get it mixed up😂
@@samkcatladyaks All good! Haha
They essentially took the image of the beach on her sweat shirt from the first 1989 and used it as the scenery for the TV cover and put Taylor in it. She went from dreaming about the beach to actually experiencing the peace and joy of being there. So the beach can represent self acceptance and coming to terms with your life and all the peace that comes with it. And by showing her eyes, with long hair now and a smiley face instead of a stoic one it just shows how she’s at a different place now figuratively and literally. But she kept the red lips I think to symbolize all the things that she still keeps with her good and bad.
It could also be the hate about her being bottled up and her finally shaking it off and letting it go
I LOVE THIS
This! I also thought it had to do with OOTW ending on the beach, and it also symbolizing kind of being 'getting out on the other side', finally finding yourself (again) (the thing with 'she lost him but she found herself'), sort of?
It’s not a proper re-record cycle until Ally drops the “Everything You Need to Know Before Taylor’s Version” video 😌

What did we do to deserve an ENTIRE ALBUM about Harry styles???? We’re so lucky fr
WE ARE NOT WORRRTHYYYYY!!!!!
NAH FR
there are so many college PR classes that talk about haylor and hiddleswift as classic PR relationships 🥴
@@tay_stancil So smart of you to think that every swiftie who says that some of her relationships are PR is a gaylor.. No one says she's a bad person for being in a PR relationships (ex.: Harry, Tom, Travis). PR is not something that should be treated like an evil or a bad move, its totally normal for people in this industry.
@ynwrs YES, i cannot stand people who treat harry, tom and travis as serious relationships of hers (and all of harry's other relationships but that's a different thing)
in terms of beach vs city, i've always seen 1989 as a 'home' album, about her finding her place! so it makes sense that back then it was NYC and now its holiday house on the beach
To me it’s the NYC work + Rhode Island home vibes, like she’s on the west coast being a boss in both personal and work aspects and here’s the album to celebrate that
I love how Taylor is rebranding her albums. 1989 definetely had more of a big city vibe, whereas taylor's version has beach vibes. I think she did the same thing with RED: we now associate that album with big scarves, falling leaves, warm coffee, but the original art reminded more of a melanchonic summer, with unsaturated colors that conveyed that feeling.
I felt so bad for Taylor when the girl squad kindof fell apart, she was always left out as a kid with no friends and she probably loved being “included” with her peers
Truly!! The fact that even her closest friend from that time turned her back would hurt me more than any romantic breakup. Thank god for Abigail, Ashley and Selena ❤
@@AllySheehan right? Friend breakups hit different
that's why even though Selena is kind of a problematic celebrity, I really appreciate her for still being Taylor's friend even when all those shit happened
@@yukitakeru4719 oh no, why is she problematic?
@@AllySheehan it's just my own opinion but the drama with Francia Raisa last year (or 2 years ago I don't remember) really made her image in my eyes become quite bad I guess. They have made up this year but it's still weird to me that the drama happened (the drama that she said Taylor was her only friend in the industry or something)
It's just my opinion so if I was wrong somewhere pls correct me
1989 isn't my favorite album but it is my favorite era. I was one year out of high school in 2014 and this time was so much fun but Taylor made it feel infinitely more joyous by going pop. Seeing her everywhere made me so happy and watching her ascend to the very top of the music industry made me feel like the cool kid for once.
I didn't think it was possible for her to be more famous and successful than she was during this time....but now she's on the biggest tour of all time, will potentially break box office records with the tour movie, become a billionaire and managed to shut down the entire NFL simply by going to a game. I feel like we've barely talked about 1989(TV) coming out in a month. Taylor Swift is America at this point. 💙
Taylor is the world at this point
When I see 1989 TV cover art, I do get "beach" vibes... but like Hamptons / northeast beach vibes... and as a native New Yorker I feel like the Hamptons are inherently linked to the NYC elite experience so I think the themes all still fit.
exactly, it gives very much east coast beach
i remember just hearing shake it off everywhere as a nine year old and loving every bit of it this album means so much to me and im so proud of her cant wait to see what our girl has in storee
I’m a gramma who became a Swifty after the release of 1989. I was going through the biggest transition of my life and Taylor became part of my journey. I have immense appreciation, respect and admiration for everything she contributes to this world. Thank you, Taylor!
that's so wholesome i love it
My dad actually passed away during the 1989 era, this album helped me through so much
i'm so sorry to hear that love
the secret sessions, taylurking, swiftmas oh i love taylor soo soo much and 1989 taylor's version just brought back all that🥺🥺 she is soo thoughtful and she loves us so muchh i am forever grateful to be a swiftie🥺
Red was my first Taylor Swift album and I love it, but Random Access Memories the last album of Daft Punk, is one of the best piece of art I’ve ever heard. If it helped Taylor make 1989 then it’s a super bonus
wow i really need to check it out!!
yep yep yep as much as i love taylor i absolutely agree w RAM winning over RED. i believe daft punk overall made the more influential and iconic record if we're talking grand musical and societal scheme of things (and not just in taylor swift fan land). not to mention get lucky was SUCH a cool and huge song when it came out. like as much as i adore red, i am glad the ~academy made the choice they did.
Yeah and for some background, it was a veeery anticipated album. They hadn’t released an album for 8 years at that point, except the Tron soundtrack (very iconic and loved, but movie music) and a live album called Alive that many feel is the best live show they never got to experience.
So people were walking around for YEARS thinking ”I would sell my right arm to see Daft Punk live. Both arms if they did the Alive set.”
And then they release Random Access Memories, a very fresh take on their sound with some unexpected but iconic features, showing they took the genre back to its roots. They are masterful producers, and experts at what they do.
I was a swiftie during the 1989 era but I was too young to really have access to the internet and I’m so happy to now have the full 1989 (taylor’s version) experience
I’m surprised you didn’t mention her ED. Just goes to show how much pressure she felt and how she was secretly struggling.
I didn't think it was necessary for understanding her impact of this time
@@AllySheehan Okay, I can understand that. Thanks for replying. I love your videos 💖
@@Alannameyersplus people are constantly talking about it as if it’s the only the 1989 era us about
@@CelesteRainUA-cam I don’t think it’s the only thing people talk about. People talk about her pop transition, her hair, New York, and Harry Styles songs way more.
An eating disorder is also very hard to make any safe and justified comment on. As an ED sufferer, I think a lot of the discourse about Taylor's ED does more harm than good. The majority of comments made about my ED by ED professionals, and people who were very close to me, came from a place of complete misunderstanding. I think that we live in a very strange sort of world that its considered normal to pick apart a celebrity's disordered eating.
I was 13 when 1989 came out and I’m now 22 for TV so two very iconic Taylor numbers haha and also two very transformative times in my life. And Clean might be my all time fave Taylor Swift song. Can’t wait for October 27th!!
1989 was the only tour I’ve been to and it was definitely a memory I cherish. I went to the Halloween night tour in Tampa, Florida. Frozen was never my favorite film, but seeing Idina Menzel belt out “Let It Go” while Taylor was dancing around the stage as Olaf was absolutely iconic. That and the rock version of “Bad Blood” and “Blank Space” that I’m still bummed we haven’t had an official release for.
I WAS THERE TOO AND I FREAKED OUT THE ENTIRE TIME THAT IDINA WAS ONSTAGE I COULDNT BELIEVE WHAT WAS HAPPENING BRO
Hearing that this is only part 1 is the best news i will recieve all week
hehe i just love to make my life more stressful but i'm SO EXCITED to chat about the songs!
@AllySheehan No stress my gal! There's still a month before 1989 TV, take your time ❤
i was a really young kid when 1989 came out, and i essentially was raised on that album. folklore is my favorite album, but 1989 will always have that connection - cant wait to relive this era :)

The Speak Now (TV) era might have passed by too quickly, but Ally, let me tell you, it was amazing. I've been passively listening to Taylor's music literally my entire life but it wasn't until Speak Now (TV) came out that I really appreciated her, and Speak Now (TV) was my first Taylor album release as a fan, and 1989 (TV) is my first as a swiftie! And your unadulterated love for Speak Now made me 10x more passionate for learning Taylor Swift lore and appreciating her music
Oh wow I am so glad you're on this journey now!!! Speak Now is just incredible isn't it
Mine too!!! I became a full on Swiftie during the midnights era. Red TV quickly became my fav and I’m so excited for TS11 so I can enjoy a new TS album as a seiftie

I’m watching this 7 hours before 1989 tv comes out 😭😭🐬🐬
Hey Ally! You said in this in the video but it's insane that Taylor has had three career peaks. I never thought she could eclipse where she was with 1989 & while i don't think any one album has done that, this whole rise beginning with folklore until present day has been remarkable to witness & hope people understand that this is not normal. And it's especially difficult for a solo female artist.
Anyway, but 1989 is the highest highs & lowest lows of her career. It's a fascinating snapshot into pop culture in the mid 2010's.
Soooo interesting isn't it! Funny that I guess folklore was a pretty low low too, Fearless may have been her only truly happy healthy peak of the 3
"Sorry for not talking about Calvin harris... I just .. didn't want to" 😂 looool that's a mood!
I love these videos covering the eras cause I get to be nostalgic about it as a senior swiftie🫶
The resons why taylor swift's next studio albumn (11th) album will be karma -
1.karma is the 11th track on midnight
2. The eras tour stage is shaped as a key and that key can also be seen in the google 1989 vault puzzle opening (means the stage is the key ) and her last performed song on eras tour is karma
3. In the karma mv there is a lyric "karmA gonna pop up unannounced"
4. We get midnights (10th studio albumn ) after 2 rerecordings so i think she will follow this pattern that after sntv and 1989tv she will release her next studio albumn .
5. That clock in that coffe shows 11 between her blue painted and back painted nails meaning we will get karma after 1989tv and before rep tv .
6. She has changed her style recently like she is wearing 1989 tv blue and also black (vma red carpet and her meeting sophie turner )
7. In the karma mv when she is the goddess of justice there is written 1989 in roan numbers and behind it is written karma in the same style as the man mv and the the scene directed to rep which means 1989 tv then karma then reptv .
8. I have seen a hairstylist vedio that she might be wearing a wig recently because the line ofthe bangs where they originate from is too smooth to be done in natural hair so she might be hiding her platinum blonde (karma era)
9. Obviously her karma is real statement
1989 era will forever have a special place in my heart. That was the pop culture era that made my teenage years exciting. Taylor and other artists in that era were really something else. It was such a good old times. I wish I could go back. I miss that time in my life.
I’m SO exited for the vault tracks 🩵
This album was my entire childhood. I feel so nostalgic and old, it’s just a magical feeling to have her more mature self sing these songs again
The screenshots of her "Taylurking" on fans pages - this is the epitome of "reaching down when you're up and reaching up when you're down". Even though she was living her dream she still remembered how it felt and sent encouragement to those who were feeling how she had felt.
TRULY
The song that solidified me as a fan is “The Archer,” but I had mad respect for Taylor’s songwriting talent when 1989 came out…Ryan Adams’ cover. I knew a couple of mainstream songs of hers but I had never heard of an entire album being covered before and I was intrigued. Listening to his cover allowed me to not get distracted by Taylor, and I was able to really hone into the lyrics. I was on my way to fandom after that.
Ally: 'I'm sorry I didn't talk about Calvin Harris in this video, I just...'
Me: '... forgot that he existed?'
Ally: 'don't want to'
Me: yeah that works too.
I remeber discussing Taylor's Apple Music letter in my freshman civics class. People who didn't even listen to Taylor's music had made snap judgements about how greedy she was we ended up in a full class debate about the subject but I feel like that was a cultural reset and was a very important stepping stone towards Taylor owning all her own music.
It's soooo interesting to me that people's first instinct was to judge rather than see someone bravely advocating for a fairer system
i remember being on a roadtrip around the time that 1989 came out, maybe a little bit after, and for some reason my phone had glitched and the only music/playlist/album that ended up being downloaded, so that was literally all i listened to on repeat for like a week and a half,, i'm so excited for the new 1989 era!!!!

I cannot wait for 1989 TV!!! Despite not being my favourite album from Taylor, it’s the most nostalgic for me, as I was 17/18 during this era and it has always felt like a “coming of age album”. It heavily resonated with that moment in my life as I started a new chapter attending university.
I have the best memories listening to this album, especially Bad Blood (original) and Wildest Dreams, as I spent the better part of a trip to Paris with my friends, listening to the songs when the album released.
Honestly can’t wait!!! I’m especially excited to hear “SL*T!” I have a feeling it will have a similar vibe to yoyok in the way of the message that the song will probably have, mixed with an upbeat/happy pop sound
A Part 2 is ABSOLUTELY necessary because this was THE MOMENT in pop culture!! 📸🎬🗽🩵😎 This 1989 Era was my entire highschool experience fr. I literally love your videos so damn much it's so cute! and so extremely helpful! I surrender that 1989 is a city album but I’ve always gotten the spooky and fantastical vibes overall from this album which I’m obsessed with. I agree with you that this album is aspirational!

The red performance in the 1989 hair with the fearless guitar is so eras tour coded 😂
I love your deep dives videos, can't wait for part 2!!!!
AHH HERE SHE IS!! 1989 tv baby!! I love these videos because it just reminds me of all the things that went down along the way. Ryan adams album was on repeat for me, I loved it. Fun fact, he actually did the whole album because he was tired of people saying she couldn’t write. He was like, “no, this pop album could easily be altered in tone it just takes a different artist. Her writing is superb.” Plus having a 90’s legend backing you up by re recording your whole album in a totally different style would be cool as hell. Some people would disagree, but I think it’s awesome ✨🩵
She became a pop sensation and radio station regular in my country during that era, but I still wasn't obsessed with her or very into the "taylore" as they call it, so I'm so grateful that we get to somewhat experience it again! Also, I haven't listened to any song besides the original singles even after I became a more serious Swiftie, because I wanna listen to the Taylor's Version first as a whole, as I did with Fearless TV, Red TV and my favourite Speak Now TV 💛❤💜
YESSSS AHH! The video ive been waiting for!! I wasnt a swiftie during the og 1989 era but im so glad to be part of her version’s
As a relatively new swiftie I've been dying to learn this from you!!!!!! Thank you Ally, love you
you got it pal!!!
When 1989 came out I wasn't a fan and I remember the school trip at 8th grade when I was 14 to Berlin via Bus and as we arrived and drohe through Berlin the Radio played Shake it off and later Blank Space. I still remember to this day how all the girls sang the songs so loudly 😅and my friends at that time and Me shared a confused look not knowing the Song. After that I listened to the album when it came out and I liked it. OotW, This Love, Style, Wildest Dream and bad Blood were my favourite songs back then and stayed up in my list. Clean, Wonderland and I know places and You are in love are now up there and underrated.
Before 1989 I knew Taylor existed and knew the big songs back then like Love Story, Ybwm, 22, Wanegbt, ikywt and enjoyed them when one of them came on the radio here in Germany. I have to admit though that back then I was more annoyed with Taylor and the girl squad. I couldn't stand her model friends (still dont) and I heard only from her through the media about the many boyfriends and I didnt know better. I also knew her through Harry from 1D. Later when I joined Twitter there always these hashtags about Taylor especially after 1989 and before Reputation. With all the snakes and K&K drama. I am sure at that time not knowing better believed them at some point or jumped on some band wagons.
So I am so happy for 1989 fully introducing me to Taylor and it always will have a special place in my heart. It was Reputation though who made me a Swiftie and which is still in my Top 3
Thank you for the video! My 13 year old loves Taylor swift and I will definitely be sharing this with her as she was only 5 when 1989 came out and it’s her 2nd favorite album (she’s a Red girl) Can’t wait for Part 2!!🩵🩵🩵
Wow! What a great in-depth video, Ally!! 🩵 I can’t believe this is only part 1 out of 2! I’d love to hear you talk a little bit about the song “Sweeter Than Fiction” in the second part. I really love that song and it looks like it’s going to be a bonus track for 1989 TV. I hope it’ll be available digitally! Lol. I also can’t wait to hear the new vault songs!! 😄
This was probably the era where I actually acknowledged that Taylor Swift exists, like my little child brain would absolutely go feral for some of these songs with no prior knowledge of her work. How I wish I would have then become part of the Swifthood, but alas, it's all in the timing 💜
I'm so excited for the re-record and to relive this era again! The little 12 year old in me is screaming!!
LOVED this video Ally, I was 17 in the original era so I'm super excited to relive it again 🩵
Love that you are so kind with giving info on the albums. New swifties get the lore and older swifties get a cohesive recap!
This was the era i became a fan (not fully obssesed but i already loved her) as a kid, so i'm reallyyyy excited about the re-recording. I know Shake It Off is a "local song" but it has been a part of my life since it came out so definitely one of the songs i'm most excited to listen to re-recorded
Same. Shake it off is iconic and I can't wait to hear it (Finally) being rerecorded.
So excited for 1989 TV🩵🩵
Thank you so much for doing this! I loved learning all of the context for the songs and understanding what this album means!
I need your song breakdown for the rest of the albums 🥺 just finished speak now song breakdown ❤
This is the album that made me a swiftie and it will forever have a special place in my heart… I only listened to the albums before 1989 when she re-realisead before I only knew the more famous songs… Also I was also born in 1989 so that album is really special ❤
I hope “SLUT!” Is a rock pop song.
This is the Era I probably know the most about! Cause I was actually qued into the online conversation and I knew a bit about how involved she was and I watched EVERY interview and scrap that I could get my hands on. I still didn’t really know about Taylurking or get the appeal or more accurately embrace, the value of sharing you passions with people on the internet. That was literally the year I got Instagram and I shared You Are in Love (just the time code and title track) the day I got my album in the mail from Target on the evening of the 26th! So many amazing memories ❤ and so fun to go through all the stuff with you! Can’t wait for part two and Rep! You’re doing us all a favor making these deep dives even life long fans who just used to think they shouldn’t share their passions with strangers
