A little tip about the controls: you can automatically enable Weapon Selection at the start of every match in Air Battle options and ditch per-weapon controls altogether. There really isn't much of a point to them anymore IMO, and it'll unify your weapon controls across all planes so you won't be using legacy controls on some planes (i.e. props) and Weapon Selection on others (i.e. modern jets).
Binding some things for specific weapons is very useful tho.
Stuff like salvo for unguided rockets or enabling the seeker for IR missiles so you can re-lock targets. But overall i agree with your point :D
@@Lxcx333 You can also fire salvos of rockets with Secondary Weapon controls. In fact, you're not even limited to just salvos: you can also fire 2/4/8/16 secondary weapons at once if you bind an additional button, and you'll only ever need 5 buttons (Fire Primary Weapon, Select Primary Weapon, Fire Secondary Weapon, Select Secondary Weapon, Switch Secondary Weapon Series) in total no matter how many weapon types you're carrying.
@@K0MMyHuCT i know that but it is a hassle to switch to them and then switch the numbers for every situation so i find it easier and faster to have an extra keybind for salvos. :D
This also enables you to fire your weapon in correct sequences sometimes. For example: the F-16s AIM-9Ls are for some reason divided into two sets of two pylons from each wing on it, meaning you can select and fire the underwing sidewinders before the wingtip sidewinder. Mainly, this just looks cool ingame, but irl this was done because the weight of the wingtip missiles reduced wing flutter and were thus more beneficial to the maneuverability of the jet than the drag and weight they introduced
This really helped me as I just got the F-100D in the American tech tree about half way to the F4C.
I never knew the CW missiles filter out chaff. Ive always been breaking lock as soon as the enemy drops chaff to try and re-lock

@@Rexern302 Yea, the aim7d on the f4c isnt the easiest to use. The radar likes to be squirely and not lock things, and the missiles themselves have both poor range, pull, and the tracking delay. Theyre still reasonably good against 10.0ish planes, but you need to setup the right conditions before launch to get them to work.

Quick correction about the AIM-54 though. The "the AIM-54 was intended to hit bombers at extreme ranges so its not very good vs small maneuverable targets" thing is a myth. The AIM-54 was actually very capable vs fighter sized targets, and afaik most/all of its kills (in use by Iran) were against fighter sized targets such as MiG-23's. The old forum thread on the AIM-54 even goes into detail about the fact the AIM-54 has multiple sources stating 25G pull, and some stating minimum 20G pull instead of the in-game current max of 17G's. The AIM-54 also had a dogfight mode for close in shots, and besides the fact it had a longer minimum engagement range(2x that of the AIM-7 iirc), was stated to be as effective as most other radar missiles in the US arsenal in dogfight scenarios. The AIM-54C's move to digital electronics is also stated in some military sources to have the ability to track beaming targets and, although this hasn't yet been confirmed as FOIA requests have been made, its been theorized the 54C likely had an MPRF radar similar to that used on the AMRAAM which would make it significantly harder to make it lose a lock, and would allow it to differentiate and engage multiple close targets and targets at lower altitudes (one of its roles was hitting sea-skimming AShM's).
The AIM-54 isnt just an overly specialized missile for killing bombers at long range, what killed it was the fact that being an ARH missile made 20+ years before ARH's became a widespread thing, it was extremely expensive and not really seen as worth it anymore with the fall of the soviet union.

Back when i was stock grinding the m21mf before the stock missiles update. I got a 4km r3s shot. Shit was crazy.
I also want to make a note on the R24Ts. You should pair it with the IRST system. Gives you a wee bit more range, allthough i wouldn’t recommend launching an R24 from farther that 6.5 km thats how ive racked the majority of my kills with it
One minor correction for the Aim-54 (more of a real life thing). It's not so much that it was never intended to hit smaller, maneuvering targets so much as every aircraft in War Thunder being able to rip 12G's like mad while constantly going mach jesus kinda makes the missile far less dangerous kinetically than it otherwise would be. The Aim-54 IRL was very much intended to have the ability to hit fighter sized targets that may be maneuvering, and this showed in the testing for it. The single most expensive missile test at that point was conducted by an F-14A carrying 6 Aim-54A Mk.47's shooting at 6 different target drones simultaneously in TWS. Those drones were set to return the radar signature of a Mig-21.

@@GeneralLee2000 Could you elaborate on what you mean by "path"? I'm not sure I understand. If you're asking about aspect, all were turned hot into the F-14 at slight differences in angle as to keep them all on the scope.
@@Registered_Simp I'm saying they were flying in a straight line or near enough from my understanding of that test... and what I said in the video was that they weren't designed to hit manuevering targets. Of course they CAN, and will hit fighter-sized targets, but they were designed to hit Soviet bombers at extreme ranges. Remember, the AIM-47 (which the AIM-54 was developed from) was also mounted on an interceptor, and the F-111B and F-14 were very much fleet defense fighters, although the F-14 of course is also very good in the air supremacy role.
This needs to be shown when starting the game if u buy a top tier premium so the newbies now something about the game. Great video btw.

Sometimes i pull off some missile shots through the flares, r-60m and aim-9l tend to ignore the flares from some angles(im not exactly sure, but sometimes they track very good and you have to maneuver hard while flaring) or if you popped flares too late
i actually havent seen anyone talking about the tactics of shooting aams, so that you will have a higher chance of hitting the enemy(even if hes aware of you), especially at top tier.
I've never had an r-60m not go for a flare. You must have the magic touch.
My r60m can only aim for flares, those dog munch that crap
for some reason whenever I try to use radar guided missiles they never lock up anything at all until the targets are within 7 km or closer and I have tried fiddling with my radar but I have no idea what any of those settings and functions do

i can't aim those AA-20 Nords, they're really jumpy on the controls, though i have found firing them in headons works almost perfectly because nobody expects missiles from the front (all aspect doesnt exist at 8.7 to my knowledge)

Any videos on how to use the radar and in what order? Example f-14a w/ Aim 7 E2. Flying behind an enemy and no lock no matter what button is smashed. Turning missles seeker on, lock target, switch target etc.

Ok so if you're behind someone in the F-14 PD won't really work that well, switch to normal search. The E-2 needs a large speed difference, so it may not turn red rear aspect. Try and stick to using them front aspect if you're having issues. If you're faster or slower than the guy you're behind it might be enough of a speed difference for it to work.
The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't.
In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the missile is, and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was.
The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows. Because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is. However, it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice-versa, and by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be, and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error.

Does anyone have an issue where the missles won't do anything? I'm pressing the button to fire or lock air to air and nothing happens, I have rebound the buttons several times and the only thing that works is the primary machine gun fire.

Later realised that it’s because the Aim7ds on the F4CJ phantom sucks ass and can only rear aspect. I gotta unlock the aim7gs then give the radar locking from far away a try
