    Probably one of the best & most informative videos I’ve seen in a *long* time. The video quality shouldn’t be underestimated, but I really appreciate how much this video was able to cover in a nicely compacted amount of time.
    And oh no! 😅 14:11 Diamond cutter ring, hand cutting crystal tumblers.
    I heard Saint Louis starting limiting the lead to 24% maximum, and also applying some kind of special coating to prevent any lead to seep out after that 90’s FDA letter.
    So secondhand & post 90’s (if you can tell) crystal if you wanna booze it up or whatever. Who knew? You’d think they would’ve checked sooner for that kind of stuff and that it needed a warning/disclaimer label all that time before. I don’t think this is widely known.

    On the Gurasu Crystal website they said that If you pour a 50/50 solution of water and white vinegar into the glasses and let it soak for 24 hours any lead on the interior surface will leach into the acidic solution. Clean the glass after pouring out the solution. It's o.k. to store liquids in crystal for the length of a meal but liquids should not be stored in the crystal for longer than that.

    Hi Walter, thank you SO much for your videos, I absolutely love them! I've just started selling antiques and collectables on eBay and your videos have been SO helpful, I don't know what I'd do without them!! In a few of your videos you mention an online group you have where you can post items and ask for people's advice on what they are. Do you have a link for this? Thank you!

    • @Delihlah

      You quite literally consume more lead on a daily basis than any crystal decanter or drinking glass will put in you 😂 IF any at all. Crystal is perfectly within safe limits.

    Ooh! Yes! Refraction! Plus clarity plus weight plus finish plus sound when flicked with my finger..
    Subscribed.
    I was looking for caring for chipped crystal pieces and you turned up.
    I volunteer at an op shop and I’ve pulled out a lot of crystal from glass. Not many people want to pay for crystal when it’s unsigned. Most of the stuff is wedding presents and from 1960s onwards. The only signed piece I know is a royal Doulton wine glass there. Only one.
    I do check.
    Most of its Czech etc. Some Waterford but not much.

    Hi is there such a thing as pressed or molded crystal? What are the seams on the bowl or vase is that part of the design? If crystal isn’t signed does that cheapen then value? Thank you!
    New sub

    • @AntiquesArena
      @AntiquesArena  2 роки тому +2

      Hi. Yes you can get Crystal that has been pressed and moulded. As long as it’s 24 % lead it’s Crystal. And the lines are where it was moulded. Cut Crystal doesn’t have limes or seams but the likes of polish pressed Crystal do.

    Great explanation! I wonder if you stored your 50 year old scotch in a decanter for 20 years, if you could taste the difference. Also, can you make the same kind of stopper that glass as in crystal. That part that is abrasive, but still seals it. Thanks for the tip about landfills! Oh yeah, does crystal, or glass “flow” over time.?

    • @GammaGlass
      @GammaGlass Рік тому

      Whether or not the glass sings, depends more on the thickness and shape of the glass, not what type of glass the cup is made out of.

      @@GammaGlass while I agree with you there is a distinct difference in the sound and type of ring between glass and Crystal that is unmistakable and a piece with a handle will not ring or if it does it’s very minor
