Jim Morrison makes a phone call for munchies

- This is an audio recording of Jim Morrison making a phone call to order a take away delivery to his apartment which was his last residence before moving to Paris. (8216 Norton Ave, West Hollywood, CA 90046, USA)
Such a great voice.
Yes! He had an awesome voice and face too !!! 😊
Silky smooth.
His voice is so kind and peaceful. A spiritual person.
I agree . He always spoke softly and thoughtfully. So different from his blues singing voice!
That obviously Pam’s voice answering to Jim’s questions about what is the address. They both sound so young. So happy and full of promise and optimism 🌹🌹🕊
Jim Morrison, ultimately an every day guy and Southern gentleman at times. One of the world’s biggest rock stars and he’s ordering large bags of chips lol
Nothing is funny about that. He was just a regular human being, who needed basic needs just like all of us. They eat, sh*t, f**k, p**s, snore, fart just like all of us.
He was a drunken anti Christ fool. And hated to shower...
I love learning that famous figures in those decades lived in humble apartments, no matter who they were in the entertainment industry. Nowadays, struggling artists are the ones living that way and think it’s terrible. RIP Jim! 🖤
Jim was humble. Despite what people say
@@djcease1996 and drunk
@@marksandford1566 Probably.
Hills houses in general were- and still are- pretty humble.
They are not really super huge. They do usually have a good swimming pool.
The location is far more important for those high prices today than anything else.
And American properties in general are the gold standard of the world.
Okay, they are cheaply built, but spacious. Everything is SO BIIIIIIIIG.
@@JJDvorshak That address in the flats though. About a block N of SM Blvd and a block W of Crescent Heights.
I love Jim’s voice ❤️❤️❤️
You will love mine too.
"Jim Morrison makes a phone call for munchies." Ok, I'll click. No regrets.
Right 😂
A Half pint of Beefeater and a bag of potato chips. Now this is what I call "Haute Cuisine!" Stay classy, Jim.
A call to a liquor store that delivered?
I didn't know he liked the Gin- I thought it was WHISKEY!!
He has such a distinct voice I really think that he’s alive in upstate New York the sky I really believe it
He is
It's so sad that a very talented poet / singer / performer like Morrison also had this self destructive streak. He died way before his time, still had so much to give and live for.
Love the way he didn’t really know the address/ apt to his girlfriends house, where he was probably living. Nice to be in your 20’s!!!!!
Jim would still be here if he just ordered a light salad and a sparkling water 💦
Cool. I remember listening to the full interview for the first time and looking up the address on Google maps. Lol
This is a whole rare interview! I think it’s almost an hour long
It is i used to have the CD of the interview

or it was early in the day..
Very respectful and courteous
I used to have the lost interview tapes on cd. Used too as they disappeared somewhere.
A voice from beyond the grave. Part of the mystery of Jim
He could see the future
@@Dog-ji9ot I have my own interpretation, but give me a clue of what that means to you. What you mean by that
You ever heard him say "i have splitting headache from which the futures made" i feel like he had alot of visions and the drinking was like meditation to him
Jim could walk to The Doors concert at The Hollywood Bowl from there.
He was a courteous, decent and thoughtful fellow when he wasn't shit-faced drunk. But does anyone else find it odd that he doesn't know his own address?
Uber eats?
The take-out place asked for a name on the order and Jim said "Mr. Mojo Risin with a little girl in a Hollywood bungalow'". The order taker said, "Okay, Mr. Mojo Risin' we'll have it there in thirty minutes or less or the order is free." Morrison then said, "Okay, keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel."

No offense for those people who want to hear Jim’s voice, which there are many, many sources. Somehow, I wish they could isolate Pamela’s voice, since I believe this is the only source, hearing her speaking.
Sounds just like Meg Ryan
@@624radicalham - You know, you’re right. I wasn’t sure, so I just listened to Ms. Ryan in a snippet from the ‘The Doors’ movie and it is uncanny how they do sound similar. I wonder if this helped her get the roll? I wish Meg Ryan, though sort of looking similar to Pamela, had a better script to work with, since this is not the Pamela Courson-Morrison I picture in real life, though you may disagree.
@@chrismcdowell7138 It is uncanny. Surreal even. I felt that she was perfect for the role as defined by Oliver Stone

Great to see how people who like this fragment of an interview and seeing the exchange of information on the subject.
Is the fragment recorded after or during the recordings of their last album?
This was recorded on February 1971. They finished recording LA Woman at the end of January. This fragment is part of Jim Morrison and Ben-Fong Torres interview for the Rolling Stones Magasine. This is considered as the last recorded interview of Jim Morrison before he died ( just 4 months later ) . ua-cam.com/video/VCS_aVuuPdg/v-deo.html&ab_channel=rutazzurra

Sourced from earlier recording.
Obviously. This is from an interview with Rolling Stone's Ben Fong-Torres that was done in February of 1971 at the stated (in the interview) address. Fong-Torres was friendly with a female rock publicist who happened to live in the same building. She was friendly with Pamela Courson, who was Jim Morrison's (primary) girlfriend. The interview was arranged accordingly.
He lived here?? He didn't even know the address and apartment number!! This was Pam's place, sorry. He may have stayed there part-time at best.
Morrison was a vagabond and friends described him as someone who basically just owned the clothes on his back. This is about as close to a home base as he would have at that time, besides the Alta Cienega Motel and The Doors office on the corner of Santa Monica and La Cienega. Barney's Beanery is close by and Norton Ave is just a stone's throw away. I used to live in that neighborhood. All within convenient walking distance. Perfect for a drunk. Residents have said they would often find Morrison passed out on their doorstep.
@@zyrrhos Very expensive area I bet, always wanted to go to Barney s Beanery
@@stevep4574 Most of LA is so expensive right now. But that particular stretch of Norton isn't the greatest, but I imagine the rents there are pretty high now. I literally lived a block north of there and paid $2,400/mo for a 2 bedroom late 90s/early aughts. I hung out at Barney's, too, but I never felt the spirit of Morrison there. It felt like a typical dive sports bar by then.
@@stevep4574 I grew up in South Pasadena, about 20-25 min. from West Hollywood, in the mid 50's to mid 60's. The area around Barney's, known as The Strip, is not a very nice area, especially at night. Some might call it "seedy." 😏 However, there are some very beautiful, expensive neighborhoods just beyond that area. We had a family friend who was a neighbor of Marilyn Monroe's in what was called Westwood Village back then. The woman was an artist in her 60's and lived in a 2 BR white stucco, clay-tiled hacienda ( just like Marilyn's). She created an artist's studio in her garage from which she could hear and see the "comings and goings" (visitors...😏) at Marilyn's. We could see Marilyn's pool sparkling in the sunlight through the trees bordering their backyards. Our family and friends used to go to this artist's house every July 4th for the annual backyard BBQ because she had the most beautiful yard...a sweeping expanse of emerald green lawn which was dotted with lemon, lime and apricot trees. I must have eaten dozens of apricots from those trees over the years. I was a bike riding, tree climbing tomboy back then and had no clue that we were BBQ-ing next door to the most famous movie star in the world! I believe Marilyn moved into that house in the late winter/early spring of 1962. In fact, she had just returned from a trip to Mexico to buy furniture, chandeliers and pottery for her house because she wanted to decorate it authentically in the Mexican style. Our last BBQ there was July 4th,1962. Marilyn was found dead just a month and a day later. I was 11 years old that February, and because our family was moving that fall to the East Coast it was finally revealed to me WHOSE pool that was next door - and WHY my friend and I couldn't go over there and ask if we could swim in it. 🤣 This once very middle class neighborhood is now known as Brentwood. Our artist friend's house was cozy and welcoming, but it wasn't palatial by any means - and neither was Marilyn's. It was a cute, typical Spanish-style hacienda/bungalow with a tiled roof and tile floors - very common in that area. My daughter lives in a similar 2 bedroom white stucco, orange tiled roof Spanish hacienda (same exact style) in San Luis Obispo. Fifth Helena was a nice, quiet and ordinary neighborhood in the early 60's. It didn't scream "movie stars", which is the very reason why Marilyn chose it (plus it was convenient to her therapist she met daily). Right near this area is where Jim Morrison and The Doors hung out. A couple years ago, my oldest daughter and I went on a "Doors Odyssey" in West Hollywood and visited all the places that Jim hung out, including Barney's Beanery. That location is the original Barney's and is pretty historic. In fact, I believe it is now designated a historical landmark. During World War II, Barneys was a place where you could go and get a hot meal cheap. And, if you were hungry and couldn't afford a meal they gave you one anyway. Nobody went home from Barney's hungry. It also became a favorite hang-out/watering hole for artists and writers, including Marilyn Monroe, Shelley Winters, Frank Sinatra, Clark Gable, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, James Dean, Sal Mineo, John Huston, Saul Bellow, Billy Wilder, and Mike Nicols to name a few. It became "the" place for R&R bands to hang out - then and now. The Stones, Jimi Hendrix, and the Beatles even hung out there when they were in town. Janis Joplin ate her last meal there before she returned to her hotel and OD'd later that evening. It's also the location where Janis had enough of Jim's clowning one evening and hauled off and clobbered him. Jim later commented on what "a good arm!" Janis had. 😏 Apparently, Janis gave as good as she got and could drink as much as Jim (which really impressed him!) She wasn't one to mess with. Today, the bench that Janis sat on in her favorite booth hangs from chains above that same booth. A server pointed out the initials Janis carved in the bench her last night on earth. I literally got chills when I ran my finger tips over her initials. She carved her initials in that bench mere hours before she died on the floor of her hotel room. This was The Doors' main hangout and Jim ate there a couple times a day when he was in LA. However, as some have already commented, Jim never actually had a home of his own. He lived/hung out at Pam's when they weren't having issues, but always kept the Alta Cienega room as his crash pad for when they weren't getting along - which was quite often. The menu at Barneys has not changed much over the decades, other than a few additions, since Jim went there. The original bar stool where he always sat is still there. After Jim died, the remaining members of The Doors signed their names on the bar in front of where Jim sat. My daughter and I sat there at the end of the bar and I immediately sat down on Jim's bar stool! 😍 She ordered the s'mores which came with little sparkler candles, and I ordered the chili that I read Jim loved and ate gallons of. He also had a near obsession for tacos (as a former Cali kid who grew up on them, I definitely share that obsession 😋🌮🌮🌮). The chiil is the exact same "guarded" recipe as when Jim ate it there. This chili was Barney's most popular dish back in the day, probably still is. Even Marilyn Monroe used to drop by for a bowl. The chili is VERY good, not the best I've ever had, but it's hearty and flavorful! I would definitely order it again. The area around Barneys, known as "the Strip", is not a very nice area, but just outside it are some very expensive neighborhoods. Marilyn Monroe lived briefly on Fifth Helena in what we now know as Brentwood. Before she hit it big, she lived in various apartment buildings in the area. Barney's was an easy 2 block or so walk (stagger!) to Jim's room at the Alta Cienega. It was also within walking distance to The Doors' old recording studio. The Whiskey is just down the street. Anyway, this is the West Hollywood area that Jim & The Doors hung out, including the apt. on Norton. The Doors' former recording studio, Pam's former clothing shop, which Jim paid for, are all right there within a block or two of each other.
@@tiamia7139 Thanks for all the information, wow wee! I always wanted to go to Barney's. Maybe we can get together and go there and you can show me the sites!!

Nah, I think he was sober. And I doubt he ordered a half-pint because of budgetary constraints -- he wanted just enough to loosen him up, but not to become the asshole he often was when drunk. And he knew that if he had a whole fifth, he'd probably drink most of it.
What kind of potato chips did he order?
Not sure about the type of chips, but I remember reading that Ray's wife used to make them tuna fish sandwiches and Jim liked to put potato chips in his tuna sandwich. We did the same thing growing up, I think it's a California "thing", lol. 😉 They had no money when they started so they ate a lot of tuna fish sandwiches. I still love tuna fish sandwiches. 😋

Sorry, do not want to start a argument. This is Mr. Morrison’s voice. Diane Gardiner confirmed the events, in this recording, did happen. Ben Fong-Torres, of Rolling Stone, recorded it, who also confirms that it is the voices of Jim and Pamela. No doubt this is Jim’s voice. If you were to question if it was Pamela’s voice, then you might have had a point, since I believe this the only recording of her voice. This was an unplanned interview, so Mr. Torres used the recording device he had with him. Jim’s voice might sound a little different, since the recording devices, from the 60’s and 70’s, were what they were.
