    First class installation Mike, Peter & Daniel. 👍🏻 In typical Mikey Pipes fashion, done in record time. That looks like nice quality equipment, and it sure runs quiet. As I watch the job proceed I’m standing at my wonderful Bosch gas range / convection oven, it’s near 20 yrs old and as perfect as the day I installed it. A bit earlier today I was using my Bosch cordless drill. 😁 I’m a big fan of their products, I positively like Bosch! I like The Pipe Doctor too.

      R-22 heat pumps did not produce a lot of heat. The modern R-410 heat pumps work much better in the winter. I have a 4 ton heat pump, 2014, 14 SEER, and it works great, with no back up electric heater. I live in Portland Oregon, so it does reach 20F some nights each year.
      However these Bosch with a variable speed compressor, they are going to use a fraction of the power of my 10 year old heat pump. My unit is 16 - 17 amps, where the 3 ton unit they showed is only about 6 amps! So my unit is a little over 4 amps per ton of cooling capacity, while the Bosch is only about 2 amps per ton for the 3 ton unit!
      So my R-410 unit works great at 10F or so. At 5F, it will start to struggle a little. While a Bosch unit will work fine, even at -10F, because it has a variable speed compressor, and can run faster on a very cold night!
      For the old oil heating, it is 1 gallon of oil to provide about 100,000 Btu's of heat into the home. For a 14 SEER heat pump like I have it is about 8 KW per 100,000 Btu's of heat. For the Bosch unit, it would be about 5 KW per 100,000 Btu's of heat.
      So at $0.15 per KW, it is only $0.75 to provide 100,000 But's of heat, VS pay for 1 gallon of home heating oil, at about $4 or $5 this winter?

LG Inverter refrigerators, huge problems with those linear compressors and crap Inverter boards.

    Thanks -- I'm curious about the Bosch IDS 2 but have a question about sizing: Currently, I have two single stage AC very old systems, both 2 tons, with one being a furnace and the other a heat strip for heat, . I want to replace both with a Bosch IDS 2 3 ton but baffled on what size the air handler should be? Should I match the air handler to the heat pump which would make them 3 tons even though what I currently have is a 2 ton, each zone cooling and heating 900 sq? I can see being oversized helping with heat but what about being oversized for cooling and that resulting in humidity?

    • @jcforward741
      @jcforward741 8 місяців тому

      The Bosch line of equipment is a bit different. They have a 3 and a 5 ton outdoor unit only. Dip switches on the control board dictate if they run a ton lower (2 or 4 ton instead). So, if you have a 2 ton originally, I’d keep a 2 ton air handler with the 3 ton ids2.1 series heat pump.
      If you have any more questions or to know that your are getting exactly what you need, your local Bosch dealer/contractor should be able to help

    • @Kangenpower7
      @Kangenpower7 4 місяці тому

      It really depends on how many square feet you are trying to cool. Also how many cubic feet of air capacity your ductwork can handle. So lets say you have 2 tons, with a normal airflow of 800 cubic feet per minute, and you want to upgrade to 3 tons or 1,200 cubic feet of air per minute. If the air duct is exactly 12" X 12", then the flow rate now is 800 feet per minute, so sort of noisy, but still acceptable. So if you increase to 1,200 cubic feet per minute, then the air speed will go up to 1,200 feet per minute, and be really noisy going through the air ducts.
      If the air duct is 12" X 18" then only about 600 feet per minute at 800 CFM and 800 feet per minute at 1,200 CFM.
      So you might need to have a couple more air ducts installed on your 2 ton system to reach the minimal airflow required for a 3 ton unit.
      How many square feet is your home? So I have 1,800 square feet and 4 tons of cooling capacity. That is 425 square feet of space per ton of cooling capacity. If you are in a humid area, that can be to many square feet per ton of cooling capacity, and may result in less run time than required to dehumidify the air. The reason I got such a large unit is the heating mode. I live in Portland Oregon, so humidity is not a problem in the summer. Many times the square feet per ton of cooling, when the home is well insulated, it is 500 square feet per ton, or even 550 or 600 square feet per ton. The more square feet per ton, the longer it will take to cool the room from 78F to 75F on a hot day.
      Then there is a consideration of the back up heat. You stated that you already have a gas furnace on one unit, and that might be helpful if you live in a area that gets below 0F in the winter. You can buy a thermostat that will determine your outdoor air temperature, some use a wi-fi and check the weather channel to determine the outside air temp, some use a outdoor air temperature sensor, they can be wired or wireless, so need a new battery every fall. When it is below about 15F, the heat pump can shut off, and run the gas furnace only.
      Of course your unit that has electric heat, you want to run the heat pump mode all the time, even at -10F outside, it will save money compared to running all electric heater.
      So if your home is less than 2,200 square feet, then 6 tons of cooling is way to much. If you are at 3,000 square feet, then 6 tons is going to be great!
      My suggestions is to replace the unit with the electric heater first. It is the very most expensive to run in the winter. So you will save the most money with that unit.

      The outdoor unit modulates based on indoor coil pressure - which is impacted by load on the coil. (airflow, temp and humidity) The indoor fan can be staged - using y1 and y2 terminals, and indoor fan speeds also changed to fine tune the system. can also adjust target coil temp down ("accelerated cooling" they call it) which changes performance.
