Question: Is there any negative to keep the stock crank-wheel assembly if it is designed with the 883 pistons weight / balance? Or do you need to rebalance the crank wheel assembly for the bigger pistons? Very good video and good day.
I had an Iron that I put a Hammer 1250 kit on, no complaints about the kit. The brakes and suspension could have done with a simultaneous upgrade. I've now got an '07 1200 Roadster with twin discs I'm considering putting the 1275 kit on. After having an Iron I decided the heavier rubber mount frame needed heavy duty progressive springs in the front with a fork brace, and sorted the rear with Night Rod shocks that went straight on with spacer washers, and they've never bottomed out AT ALL.
Awesome vid ! I’m about to purchase a 1275 kit for my 2000 1200/ w screaming eagle heads that I’m sending out to get cleaned up looking to get the bike to 110hp !

Nice work! My question is about the compression ratio with the stock 883 heads, most of all the 1250, to 1275 kits have 10.5 compression ratio, so with the 1275 kit you have with stock heads does the 10.5 compression ratio kit the one you ordered? I plan on doing the same thing on a 1997, 883 stock heads N4 camms.

In 4th gear, apparently the 883 transmission cruises the 1275cc conversion engine at a higher rev band than 1200's with a 5th gear final drive ratio. My question is it worth swapping in a 1200's 5 speed transmission case and running 5 gears. Does the ecm work okay with an extra cog? If running 11.2:1 compression pistons, high lift cams fitted, and maybe outputting 8000-8500-9000 rpm redline with some bottom end work and some porting.. wouldn't the 4th gear final drive ratio's rev band at the same speed as other bikes be more noticeable on a highway? It's too bad the bottom end is so weak ( well, at least compared to the bottom end of a 1200 buell)) ,, you can do a conversion, using a buell bottom and in these bikes, ( you can pick up a used 1200 buell engine for about 1k bucks) you have to get the sportster case machined to accept the buell crank ( it's not expensive, most shops are familiar with the mod) , for the price of a used buell engine, some machine work, you can have a 100hp engine, the bottom end is much stronger, will rev to 7k as much as you want with out worry, you also get a better oil pump. For 1k bucks, plus machine work, you get a sweet bottom end , crank androd, you get jugs and pistons, cams lifters, heads, you get a much better oil pump, you get all the parts for the primary and clutch, for the price of a used buell engine, it is hands down the best way to build a beast sportie.

Dominique LeBlanc Dominique LeBlanc dont know if you still researching. If you want to improve then definitely plan on upgrading your heads as well. Your stock 98 heads do have poor flow, old style ports and poorly shaped combustion chamber. Consider some ported Buell heads if you go with the Hammer kit, but also consider some bigger manifold (depends what will the cfm of your heads end up). Also research your riding style, maybe you need different cams timing to better fit your needs. Also if you are able use race fuel permanently then you can up the compression to gain more torque. If you end up with more then 100rwhp you will also need bigger carb, otherwise your stock carb should be enough and its easy to tune.
@@TonysGarage No my question is a general one, I have an 883 converted to 1200 (all took place at a dealership) and also installed performance cam and performance valve springs

GET THE HEADS PORTED AND FLOWED OR IT'S A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY DOING ANYTHING !!!! I put a 1250 kit on my '06 XL1200R and was a bit disappointed - I already had Andrews N4 cams and I found that there was not a lot of difference really because the heads didn't flow enough. I tried fitting a bigger carb (HSR45) and still not much difference. THEN I got my heads ported (over here in England) and fitted Hammer's Impact 560 cams..... it is a different bike now ! Don't bother with enlarging the engine capacity unless you port the heads as they cannot flow enough in standard form for even the standard capacity and cams. What is worse still is going from 883 to 1200,1250 or 1275 without touching the heads - the engine stops producing any more power at 4500rpm as the heads cannot flow enough air never will even with porting unless you get the top level of porting from Hammer Performance - get 1200 heads if your budget won't stretch to their prices. Although going from 883 to 1200/1250 or 1275 may seem great all it is doing is showing you how pathetic 883's are. Take two test rides at a Harley Dealer - one on an 883 then test a 1200 and you will see what I mean the 1200 is TWICE the bike that an 883 is even in standard form - NEVER bother with 883's.
Disagree. Power gains from a head kit on a base 883 are way more noticeable than on a 1200, not to mention it's also a significantly cheaper platform to hot rod. It's no surprise you noticed little gains from a 1200 to a 1250. IMO that's not even worth the trouble unless your doing heads and bottom end, which in the end will cost a lot more than just starting on a cheap 883 to begin with. Also, some guys prefer the 883s gearing to the 1200. 883s are also cheaper to insure, and no one besides you will know it's had a motor overhaul. And a lot of dudes, myself included, doing a hardtail chop and stretch don't need a 120 hp bike...
@@cop70s So let me get this right, My comment was that you need to get the heads ported as they don't flow enough, especially 883 heads when you up the capacity. You disagree with my comment but then go on to say that 883's really benefit from porting the heads..... If you cannot see that you have just contradicted yourself then I will not bother explaining it to you other than to say the heads on 883's are not the same as those on 1200's. Try riding an 883 and then ride a 1200..... the 1200 is twice the bike to start off with. As for your situation of chopping your bike and hardtailing it, well if that is what you want OK but I 'and most other Dudes' get a bit bored travelling long distances on a bike with a cruising speed that is less than the average Highway speed of cars and trucks, not to mention that you will not have enough power to pass other vehicles and will limit the distance you can travel due to the severe discomfort that hardtails cause.... or are you just building it so you can look real cool down at the shopping mall ?
@@thakery5720 Nope. Not what I said. My point was that the 883 is a better platform for jug conversion because it provides more power gains than a stock xl1200 would. A 1275 Hammer kit on an 883 will outrun a stock xl1200 in low gear all day long. Its just a much higher quality kit than the oem harley parts. You will see more power gains from an 883 to 1275 than a 1200 to 1275. Not sure whats so difficult to understand about this. The conversion on a stock xl1200 is nearly pointless unless you do heads and cams too. Because of the gearing, the 883 doesn't REALLY need head work unless you want to actually gear up the sprocket and do more high rpm riding. Go to the Hammer website. All the info is there. Btw a 1275 kit on a stock 883 adds like 30 hp...more than enough for highway riding. And there is a huge subculture of EVO chopper guys all over the world. And yes, it's all about looking cool.
Hey Rob, the install is really straight forward. Can be done in a day. Just take your time and take lots of pics during the teardown. 100 percent doable. Ride safe.
The gain I saw where exactly what I was looking for. While cams and head work would provide more hp for sure. It was just something I didn’t need at time.

How much was the kit for your bike
If I remember correctly it was about 1200 bucks all in.
FP3 are not a best choise for any modified bike, works on stock bikes.
That power vision how much of a nightmare to install cause it looks like theirs a lot to it
Hey Rob, the install is really straight forward. Can be done in a day. Just take your time and take lots of pics during the teardown. 100 percent doable. Ride safe.
How much did it cost to do?
About 1200 to 1500 if you install yourself. Thanks for watching👊
About how much was the cost
It’s about 1200 all in.
$1200???? I’m seeing $1585 without the specialty tools
What are ur bars
Biltwell friscos
@@TonysGarage what size are they
Why not do cams and head work all the same time that way you actually see a significant power gain
The gain I saw where exactly what I was looking for. While cams and head work would provide more hp for sure. It was just something I didn’t need at time.
Only for 883? Or any type of sportster
They make them for all sportster.
No
Who told you that people wanna listen to you while you riding a bike?🤦
