When I was the caregiver for my mom, I would buy a multi person planners that they use at doctors offices. (I think they have them for 2 to 8 people per day) I would have my schedule in the first column and her appointments in the second column.
My husband and I group our four kids in our conversations constantly but I had never thought of using those groupings in my planning. Thank you for the tip!
I used similar ideas when my nest had peeps in it. Even now with my nest being empty, my mom and I still refer to them in groups “Big boys” and “Littles”. My mom uses first initial of our nickname in her planning for us kids and all her grandchildren. Great grandchildren, probably first initial of grandchild hyphen first initial of the baby. Such as my son Art and his son Kaiden would be A-K. Color coding: I have a color. Hubby has a color. Dog has a color. Each of my jobs has a different color.
The stickers you had...the pad of blue colors, you talked about the piggie bank, where did you purchase that? I'm looking for trash/recycle stickers, suggestions where to purchase a sheet that would denote that?
The shop I got them from is no longer open, but Planner Kate is an amazing shop for icon stickers. You can get whole sheets of one type, like trash stickers. I recommend starting there ☺️
I’ve been writing down all my kids names (5 kids) I can’t believe I haven’t thought of this!!! Excuse me while I go find 7 pretty colors 😊!! Great video ❤️
Annie! Thank you for coming up with some creative ideas for keeping track of "the kids" and all their events. I also have 5 "kids" (young adults now), and I would use the initial idea. And, if I had to do something regarding that task or event, I would circle it. So, if one of the kids had a dentist appointment, and their dad was taking them, I would write the initial put the task and time...so, F-dentist-3PM. That would let me know that they have a dentist appointment at 3, but their dad was taking them....and then I could remind him. If I was taking them to the dentist appointment, I would put a circle around their initial. This meant that I was taking them to the dentist at 3. I hope that makes sense. Annie, you keep coming up with great ideas and little tweaks for being organized and on point! Thank you!!!
What a great system you have! Great ideas. When it comes down to it, it’s all about execution and consistency. You have that down, I can tell. Thank you so much for sharing and watching ❤️
Hi Annie. Love your videos! I have a couple of questions regarding the entries on your monthly calendar without times, i.e. "G: Pediatrician". Are these entries just for reference for your video or do you have entries like this on your calendar and you write the time somewhere else? Hope that makes sense.
It does make sense, yes. So these are just purely for example. In my calendar I do include the time. So it might say “10 AM G Pediatrician” in real life.
Here's a question: I like to color code per person. I have two daughters and so I write their specific activities in their own color. What would you suggest when they both have the same activity/appointment at the same time? Writing the item twice in two different colors seems redundant. Any suggestions?
I have a group color so if it is more than one kid I use that color. Or I just put the initials after the appointment so I know who all is involved. Or you could highlight half the info with one kid’s color and the other half with the other child’s color?
This is interesting so far as it went, but it seems super microscopic compared to the sum of all the moving parts. It'll probably be easier to explain with examples... Starting with just one person, there are several different types of moving parts * appointments (be at this place at this time) * deadlines * must do on this day * schedule (for routine tasks like cleaning, so they have a spot, but they can get moved or skipped) * reference (things you need to know about but you don't particularly need to do anything for it -- payday if it just goes into your bank; when other people in the house/extended family will be away; when building maintenance will be happening [so you don't have people over that week]) * community events (I might go to it or I might not) * etc With children you may also have things like, supervising activities (homework or maybe making something in the shed), so you need to be around and switched on but you're still not directly involved. So you could do a practical task like fold laundry and still chat about how they're getting on, but you couldn't work on a project that consumes you. Filtering down there's then all the different hats you wear and grouping those tasks together. (Or start with this and then figure out what types of pieces you have as above, but some may be the same kind in a different project.) And THEN I think this video would be useful. Especially the part about groupings. Filter it down again, who is involved. And then figure out how you're going to write about it, but it's really all the same by then. . . . . Sorry if that turned into a rant. I didn't mean it to, I just wanted to expand it a bit. Hope it makes sense 🙂
You are extremely organized and thorough! Way to go! Yes, I think my video “simplified” it for some, but I think we all have to start somewhere and maybe someday we’ll be as detailed as you ❤️ #goals
@@AnnieSmithawifenmother Well, thank you, but I didn't say it for that. And tbh, I don't think it's particularly true. I feel extremely scatter-brained a lot of the time, and just occasionally, I find something that gives a bit of clarity. And then that becomes rigid, because to me it has to be. It just doesn't actually work if it's not. Think of a path. For a lot of people including my Mum (and possibly yourself?) it is easy to stay on the path, but occasionally they go on the grass, but even on the grass they can kind of continue in the direction of the path anyway, so strict boundaries or no, they have an innate idea of where they are generally going. (These seem like the most naturally organised of all to me!) But it's like I can't see the path. Everyone else is mostly sticking to the path and still going in the correct direction. I am turning in circles on the grass, and struggling to see where I'm going. So I need a guide-rope showing where the path is. An "ideal system" that I can try to follow as best as I can. Think of bungee cords, like the edge of a boxing ring. Well, that can show me the way I am supposed to go, and it can bring me back if I get too far away into the grass (although as often as not, straight into the same mistake on the other side...). It's a definite improvement, but it still has some problems. Now turn the path into a corridor, with walls of steel, or diamond. Gonna stop me wandering off. Not necessarily gonna stop me looking at everyone on the grass with resentment. Always gonna hurt when I feel the limitations of it. Not gonna stop me going backwards or sitting down dejectedly and not doing a thing for ages. But infinitely better at removing the confused circles in which I had been wandering. So it helps, a lot. Then you see my diamond wall and you see your own path that doesn't entirely keep off the grass, and you think I'm great! You think I'm more organized than you are. But I'm honestly not. I just needed more help to get to the same level than you did. And because I personally am a top-down thinker, I have noticed that confusion means that I need to "zoom out" another layer because I don't have an accurate perception of what's really going on. For example, that the pieces are different shapes as well as different colours. Like those different types of moving parts I mentioned earlier 🙂
I love options! Sometimes one seems “prettier” to me so I use it for a season. Then the other method seems easier so I use it for the next season of my life. Go with the flow ☺️
Numbering your kids reminds me of the old Romans who named their boys in the order they were born - Primus, Secundus, Tertius, Quartus, Quintus, Sextus, Septimus ... interestingly Tertius and Quartus were not so common ... 🤔
Annie. I love your videos and you give great practical advice. I am not into decorating so your plan with mes make more sense and are what I am looking for. I know you have hit on this a couple of times in different videos. here is my dilemna. I will write things in my planner (sometimes) but not open it every day to look. or I forget to write in things. basically, I just don't use it. Any suggestions? can you do a video on making yourself use a planner :) ?
Oh thank you so much! I’m sorry that you’re struggling a bit, have you checked out my video called “How to Use a Planner Longer than a Week” or “When & Where to check your planner” or “The Secret to Using a Planner!” All of these videos are recent and will be in the first 20 listed on my channel. Also, stay tuned because I’m working on a video about Planner Peace that will come end of July or beginning of August ☺️
It's not always the planner. Your "system" may not be working for you. I'm using one book July to try the bullet journaling system. I found that I can't be with a 24 hour timeline. It's only been a week and I'm amazed at what I've learned about my "system". I really like Annie's video on how to use a planner for more than a week. Find your system, then find inserts to match your style. Keep trying.
Beach Lover, at work I keep my book open to the current week. On my planner day on the weekend, I watch inspiring, informative videos while I plan and set up my week.
@@mavenunltd thank you. I need to make it a habit. I thought I had it and then it fell apart. I will keep working at it. Because it is really embarrassing to show up at the doctor's on the wrong day twice!!
Thank u for your video it help me out alot to how to plan my own way it don't matter what it look like at long I am happy with it
Yes, if it works for you and makes you happy- that’s all that matters!
When I was the caregiver for my mom, I would buy a multi person planners that they use at doctors offices. (I think they have them for 2 to 8 people per day) I would have my schedule in the first column and her appointments in the second column.
I’ve never heard of a multi person planner and now I’m intrigued 😄
This is so good I am going to use some of these ideas. This is the first practical video that is for a family and using a bunch of planners!
Oh I’m so glad it was helpful!
Great video, so practical and functional
Thank you ☺️
Great video Annie! Love all the tips!!
Oh thank you, friend!!!
I loved it, Annie. Tks a lot!
My pleasure ❤️
My husband and I group our four kids in our conversations constantly but I had never thought of using those groupings in my planning. Thank you for the tip!
Hehe, it gets cumbersome after a while, groups are necessary 😂 Glad to share!
This is an excellent video. I like stickers and icons for sure. I need to keep a legend on my book mark so I don’t forget what I am using and why.
I always think I’ll remember, and then six months later I can’t 😂
You are my new favorite UA-cam planner channel! Thank you for being practical and clear!
I am honored! I appreciate you joining me in my journey here in this corner of the web ❤️
