In third grade this happened to me (and the two other members of my team, it was in teams) in an egg drop competition, we had somehow swiftly won even though our design was very flawed and then the teacher told us to slowly remove parts of our contraption until the egg broke upon contact with the ground. Pretty soon it was at the point where people were chucking our egg into the sky and it would hit the ground and bounce slightly with no damage.
Imagine looking out your window, seeing a couple men dressed in chicken costumes, a drone with a chicken head on it, dropping eggs from taller than you house and yelling.
The harder you slam it the tighter the shell gets pushed together causing a Lichtenstein tap to break it easily but causing a hard slam to keep the egg in tact

From what I'm aware of, there's also an evolutionary aspect to the structure of an egg that doesn't necessarily apply to modern day chickens but instead their ancestors. It is inevitable when you make a small bowl-like structure at the top of a high tree that sometimes things inside of this tiny bowl will fall out, including bird eggs. So over time birds who laid eggs that could survive drops from such heights had more offspring on average than those that didn't, and natural selection did the rest.

I am glad you made this video and were so enthusiastic and humorous in doing it. It lets me show my online students what previously I could only tell them about having done this to show in-person students that it worked -- throwing eggs high in the air or tossing them out of third story windows or balconies, etc. However, I must caution you and your viewers about one thing: I was once able to break an egg by squeezing it as hard as I could for as long as I could until it broke in my hand -- squirting egg yolk and egg white fluid EVERYwhere in my kitchen and my clothes, even though I had my hand in the sink with the egg when I squeezed it. You do NOT want to have that happen in your car. Do not try to crush an egg in your hand(s) in your car !!! I regretted having to clean up the walls and cupboard of my kitchen; I would really have regretted messing up my car that way.
Fun fact: We had an egg drop in school and I somehow managed to make my egg survive with 2 boxes rubber bands and a grocery bag. (I procrastinated big time)
Thanks, I tried squeezing an egg, you absolutely can… that was one huge mess to clean up, it seems if you manage to crack them they kinda explode. I also got a piece of eggshell stuck in my palm so thanks
@@RyanKung depends how you are holding it, the egg whilst using all four fingers and have them specifically curled around the egg, than it wont break, it has something to do with the weight distribution. Another awesome video guys! Love the subway joke. Any chance you’ll elaborate on part 2 on the relationship between the arch-like structure of the egg and grass? What is it about grass specifically that prevents the egg from cracking? I would assume that the surface area of the egg in contact with a flat patch of grass would be similar to that of a flat piece of concrete. I would say yes, if you are dropping it with a wide and thick enough patch of grass/dirt so that the impact can get absorbed.
