I am against "power" feedings. If you feed Oscars a varied diet as you do but feed a reasonable amount twice a day and do weekly water changes you will get better results meaning...the growth rate will be about the same, but the over all health of the fish will be better. One thing I am curious is is that the tank set up you use for the Oscar? Oscars, all Cichlids, and most other fish benefit from ornaments in the tank. Oscars will get bored in a bare tank and end up attacking and breaking the heater and filter downspout. With things in the tank like fake plants they can move around and or things to swim around and explore they will be less bored, and a calmer nicer fish because of it.
If you give them a mixture of pellets and dried shrimp they also grow fast well that’s what has worked for me at least twice a day. First meal pellets second meal shrimp. And I have too giant oscars, red parrot and a Jack Dempsey
Oscar can live 5 to 8 days without any food supplements.....but feed them with care....its growth depends on aquarium setup and good relationship with you and your Oscar...👍
Raised mine in a 225. 2 80 percent water changes a week. Fed 6x a day when a baby, then 4x, then 3x by the time he was 10 inches. Various pellets. Have a jungle theme environment which stimulates and keeps activity high. He plays with a ball I leave in. Now at 2 years of age he's pushing 14" already. Gulps giant mealworms and nightcrawlers like nothing. Feed once or twice a day now with ONE day off. Oscars are too intelligent and need stimulation to be in a blank glass box. Water changes, low stress and diet are the key. Genetics a factor too.
I'm gonna be honest. Just my opinion to each his own. This is pretty dumb. They grow fast enough. I mean they'll be 10 to 12 inches in a year. Why put there health at risk? The point of being in the hobby is to enjoy these animals. To each his own but I think its dumb and unnecessary.
Couldn't have said it better myself!!! Why even put out a video that has negative effects on the fish. Like "hey how to make oscars fly , just throw them in the air. It lowers there life span sooooooo....
Best comment on here. If people think they need to 'power feed' their oscar... they really shouldn't own an oscar in the first place. These grow ridiculously fast... if people feel the need to try and speed that up (and leave a negative effect on the health of the fish), then fish keeping isn't the hobby they should be in. Poor content too from a youtuber to even promote this stupidness.
@Tyrone Catkiller Kang it speeds up their metabolism, making them grow faster, essentially fast forwarding their life by about 3 times People do it because they're impatient and they want a big giant fish as fast as possible even if it lives half as long as it should
I recently added Oscar to my tank so I haven't added heater to my tank yet is it mandatory? Also would like to know steps after feeding non-vegetarian food water gets dirty/stinky soon, so could like to have your opinion in the this please as it would be really helpful for me.
Heater is mandatory. The best temp is 30°C. Add bio media from ADA and add Super 4 once a month only after adding media. Use ADA Chlor off on every water change. Feed fish atleast twice daily. Once an oscar grows it won't be possible to add mates with it. Either it will fight or stay in a corner if you do. 50% water change every week is very very important. Every week feed it chicken heart after removing all the fat in it. Leave it hungry once a day in a week. Do not power feed, If you want a longer life span for your Oscar. This is my 14 year experience of Oscar keeping. My fish are very healthy and always note that Oscar always needs clean water with a temperature of atleast 29°C, moderately Alkaline water and 0% chlorine. It needs your attention the most.
Mine can be like that sometimes. Oscsars love bloodworms and once they taste them they don't want to eat anything else. They can be picky eaters at times. It helps to fast them for a day to make them super hungry and then they should eat the pellets. Hope that helps :)
Foods like blood worms ate like candy to fish. Only feed them blood worms once a week. Offer pellets and no worms and I bet after a few days it will eat the pellets
I think feed them live fish once they can eat those fishes. Mosquito fishes. Fries feed them with live insuforia then dahnia or frozen daphnia or powder pellets with 40% protein. Then tubifex or black worm or frozen blackworm when they are a month. Finally live fish. So they also can train and move faster. Or if choosing pellets, feed them small amount yet frequemtly. Daily water change is a must if you can.
I have 1 3inch tiger oscar in an almost 80 gallon tank.. one day after water change it seemed to have white worms like things floating in tank.. after that oscar fish is not eating and its color is fading.. i have put a powerfilter and heater also.. so my question is.. what all things are to be done along with water change.. is there need of any medicines to be added everytime water is changed ? Please do reply..
Sounds like ick. Keep water at 86 degrees for a few days. My Oscar pet store rescue had ick bad and wouldn't eat. I only turned the temp to 86 and waited. Worked with no meds. Now all he wants to do is eat or play in the bubbles.
Im not for power feeding i have a oscar and hes not full grown yet but i think letting your fish grow at there own rate by doing your water changes and feeding 2 times a day your fish will grow and be happy
I grew my 1 and a half long lemon oscar into a 12 inch monster lemon oscar just by doing 80 percent water changes and feeding 5 times small amounts every other day for 3 months then put him in a pond then feeding it 7 times a day with small chunks of shrimp and fish for a month then for the next 2 months i feed it with pellets then skip 2 days without feeding then i start feeding it every other day. I think just putting nutrients into my oscar's body helps its growth
No! Oscar Cichlids need a temperature of 78° Fahrenheit. As said in the video a higher temp of 80°-82° Fahrenheit will increase metabolism. If Oscars(or any warm tropical fish) are kept at a temperature of less than 75° Fahrenheit it slows the metabolism, weakens the immune system, makes the fish sluggish, and can cause cause the fish to get sick with a wide range of things like: Ich, Funguses, bacterial infections, etc...
It's hard to say since I don't know what your oscar is like, I didn't know how much to feed my Oscar in the beginning as well but it comes with experience. Maybe you should try with a pinch of flakes and increase or decrease the amount depending on how the fish reacts
I’ve done something similar: Water temp 82 F I fed my Oscars three smaller meals a day from five high quality foods on a rotating basis that includes ; Hikari cichlid gold pellets Freeze dried meal worms Omega One veggie rounds Freeze dried blood worms Hikari cichlid sticks After they reached about 4 1/2-5 inches I substituted freeze dried krill for the blood worms with live crickets on occasion. After 12-13 months I dial the temp back, over a couple of weeks, to 76F and reduce feeding to two smaller meals a day with the pellets and sticks being the staple.
Sorry I've never fed my Oscar flakes so I don't know which is good. But maybe the Oscar is just too small for pellets? Maybe he will switch to pellets once he gets bigger

I got a new one because he was half price, small, malnourished, the only one in his tank, and ganged up by 20 mean convicts. He is so small and beaten, that I'm thinking about power feeding him. He even hides from baby tiger barbs😦
Most South American Cichlids like Oscars do not like other fish in their tank since they are very territorial. That said they will do ok together if the tank is huge and the fish can set up its own territory within the tank(this means 150 gallon tank for 2 Oscars, 3 Oscars you may get away with, with a little aggression between them).
He doesn't even come to the top to eat. Because of that, I don't know how much he is eating. A lot of the food just sits at the bottom for the pleco to eat. Oh. He loves live worms and other small fish.
Land animals should not be fed to fish. Steak and pork are not what Oscars or any fish are used to eating. Steak and pork is very hard on their digestive system. It will get your fish big fast but it is from unhealthy fats and the wrong nutrients making the fish unhealthy. As a treat once a month may not harm the fish but I do not recommend it at all. Peas are better but....peas are given to fish with constipation and or bladder problems. Peas work like a laxative for fish. As an occasional treat peas are ok but to many will give your fish the runs.
No animal meat it will give them fatty liver and shorten their lives. There's no reason to feed them that. Plenty of good pellets, worms and chopped shrimp will work.
Why feed saltwater creatures to fresh water fish? Straight fruits and vegetables they will eat but can not properly digest them. In the wild Oscars will eat fish that are plant and agae eaters. The nutrience Oscars get from the plants is from the fish they eat that ate the plants
Barbs with South American Cichlids? Oscars will eat the barbs. Barbs will group up and defend them selves as best as they can but....a big Oscar will just swallow a barb whole with no problem.
Why rush and maybe put the fishes life in danger...? If a fish keeper cannot be patient maybe he /she is in the wrong hobby...growing things especially living creatures require patience and lots of care... This power feeding can lead to a Bloated Bladder that well kill your fish..
I mean I love a big fish too but I at least want to keep him around as long as possible so I can enjoy him.

It ate my pleco fish yesterday
Any fish that will fit in an Oscars mouth will be eaten.
They grow fast anyway bro your doing nothing special to be honest,
Don't worry about having barbs with aggressive bigger fish. They will group up and defend themselves. Semi aggressive athority is great.
Barbs with South American Cichlids? Oscars will eat the barbs. Barbs will group up and defend them selves as best as they can but....a big Oscar will just swallow a barb whole with no problem.
Power feeding is also my favorite sex position
Why rush and maybe put the fishes life in danger...? If a fish keeper cannot be patient maybe he /she is in the wrong hobby...growing things especially living creatures require patience and lots of care...
This power feeding can lead to a Bloated Bladder that well kill your fish..
