2. Wild Baby Oscar Tank - Gets into Trouble Already!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- This fish is called wild oscar cichlid, or Astronotus ocellatus wild. Not to be confused with Oscar Wilde. :) He/she is around 5cm (2 inches). The pleco is called Gold nugget pleco or L018.
This wild oscar most likely came from a commercial breeder. Oscars aren’t endangered species, and some are probably caught from the wild. However, most oscars are easily bred in a tank.
I bought a new DC pump b/c the the Sicce silent pump wasn’t very silent at all. This DC pump is completely silent at 29% power, and it pumps out pretty much the same amount of water as the other one at that power. I’m really digging the “feed” button. That function turns off the pump for 10 minutes so you can feed your fish and the filter doesn’t suck up the food while the fish eats. Sicce Silent 1.5 was 23W pump, and this Grovita is 25W pump. The pump’s digital readout screen doesn’t flash like that in real life, it’s b/c of the difference between the refresh rate of the screen and the camera’s fps.
I didn’t do the usual drip acclimation b/c the bag was full of detritus. However, I should’ve done the drip method for the oscar. The oscar took over 2 days for him to swim around comfortably.
I bought the pleco from the same seller. I was going to get a regular pleco, but this one was so purdy. This pleco hasn’t left the safety of the driftwood, yet. He only cleans the driftwood and nothing else. I’m a little disappointed, so I might get a different pleco, and have the L018 clean the driftwood and another one clean the rest of the tank, maybe.
The baby oscar somehow got stuck in the sump. This is something that I never thought would happen when I designed the sump. I don’t know how long he was stuck in there. I was pretty sure he had jumped out somehow, and I looked all over the place outside the tank for over 10 minutes.
This oscar took around 8 days until he was comfortable with me. He finally associated me and the tweezers with food. Now, he is glued to the front glass when I enter the room.
Since he eats pellets now, the next video will be feeding him bunch of different kinds of foods.

I'll answer the most asked questions.
1.Why NO Plants? - No plants b/c the oscar doesn't care for it and will uproot and chew up the plants. It'll just be a waste.
2. Doesn't the pleco need sand? - Ok, this one is a little odd for me, since I've kept plecos in many different kinds of tanks before. I never knew people thought plecos need sand. Anyhoo, this particular pleco lives in a rocky bottom in its natural habitat. Here's a video: ua-cam.com/video/QVWTev_ic_k/v-deo.html
3. This tank looks boring b/c there's not much in it? - Yes, this is on purpose. I actually only put the driftwood and rocks for you guys, to tell the truth. There's a chance that I might have to remove everything from the tank when the oscar gets bigger. Maybe this particular oscar will be ok with the deco. Only time will tell.
No Plecos don’t need sand
@@AndyMartin401 Well not all, some do come from sandy/muddy habitat. Is your pleco a wood eater or algae? Ive had common and bristlenose, bristlenoses prefer to eat wood. Not familiar with yours.
Hi. He’s just a common Pleco. About 8 inches long now. Mainly nocturnal, but likes both bog wood and algae. He, I say he, just presuming, loves cucumber and didn’t bat an eyelid, if it has any, when I changed from sand to gravel.
@@zealin1778 I also had a Green Phantom Pleco, beautiful it was but didn’t last long. It seemed happy for a while, got up one morning and it was dead. Tested water, all fine so don’t know why it died.
Your answer to 3.. I feel your pain.... I can't even have fake plants that are easily moved, my female still tears them to pieces but doesn't care if there is hardscape, the male is the complete opposite, hates hardscape but couldn't care less about plants... 🤦♀️🤷♀️ .. and they both are constantly sifting my gravel around and making mountains in the corners. Giant Cichlids..what you gonna do?🤣🤣
Edit: Oh, and I can't wait to see what he looks like, when he gets bigger! Will definitely be a stunner! 💜
NO clickbait titles, NO mouth wide open on a thumbnail, NO constant reminder to subscribe. This kind of content is the reason UA-cam was originally created...pure passion for the hobby.
You are right man 😉.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍
I totally agree
agree from france :)
Well said. Dread to think where we're heading 🍀
They less you ask people to subscribe the more often they do
And for 5 minutes, everything was okay again
That's why I come here. I also set up my own flowerhorn tank. I love my fish.
Right! 😔✊
I wouldn’t have even thought about it unless you commented it.
Thank you.

This video shouldn’t have any ending
it is so fun watching how their colors change as they mature! Cute little guy!
Color changes becouse of the stress of the travel
Adorable! Have you considered getting another Oscar yourself? I know you're very fond of them.
@@fabiocanepa3587 color changes as they mature as well, I had my wild Oscar for 15 years
@@joppek77 not at this time, maybe someday in the futire
QUEEN!
XD
Can't believe he got himself stuck in there like that! He's lucky you found him!
No matter what species, kids will be kids. 😅
Xd
I sometimes find my baby BN pleco *inside* my hang on the back filter trying to eat the algae that’s on the filter sponge. 🤣
I had a betta who managed to get himself stuck inside the bubbler tube. A tube maybe about the width of my thumb. I have no clue how he got inside. He must have buried himself through the gravel against the air pressure for hours.
@@whatevername4873 I swear fish find themselves in the most unbelievable parts of the aquarium and seem fine afterwards, swimming off like nothing happened 🤔🤣
I love he got an attitude after you got him out of the filter haha Your videos are amazing
Fish in general are like "oh, a sump? I think I'll live here!"
Very cute oscar!!
INSPIRED BY NEMO....
I fished three dojo loaches out of my sump last night. Two were in a filter sock, the other took awhile to get
Shrimp too... gotta be careful...
Oscar: "we are totally exposed out here, you sure it's safe?"
Pleco: "I literally don't have time for this...."
Oscar: "I'm just not sure it's my first time doing something like this"
Pleco: "The word you're looking for is free buffet"
Hey, he's trying to do a "nemo" is all.
I've only known that oscar for five minutes but if anything were to happen to it I'd be devastated
"I was going to get a regular pleco, but this one was so purdy." PLEASE THATS SO CUTE LMAO
Yelling, "LITTLE DUDE YOU CANT DO THAT" at my phone when he got stuck in the filter
Exactly.
"no drip acclimation bc doo doo" - this channel 2021
What can I say, this guy is a legend.
YAY an oscar! I hope he/she becomes more confident, and I hope you and your pets are doing well. Also, happy Chinese New Year!
*they
@@brook_angel "they" is plural
@@kylebaker7764 they is gender neutral, I would know. I use they/them.
@Aaron w. I hope "they" becomes more confident?
@@kylebaker7764 *I hope they become more confident!
In the context of this conversation, you know that « they » is singular because we’re talking about one fish, even though if we used the sentence in a new context if could be plural.
It’s all about the context it’s in!
Would you consider building and selling custom tanks for people?
I love the channel. There's no clickbait, constant reminders to subscribe, no obnoxious music, you treat your fish with dignity and respect with minimal stress. And I love all your custom builds and how you explain things.
That oscar is acting a fool already at the first day in the tank. 😅
*is no one going to talk about just how gorgeous that Oscar is?!*
It's REALLY beautiful, such a nice design.
it is really pretty!!!
And so lonely
@@ChrishaXIII lonely? Save somthing like that pleco he gonna murder everything he can. Thats a murder fish.
That oscar does have special colors.
Turns out oscars like to get into internal sump set ups apparently 😂 mine did it only a few hours ago
These videos are so satisfying to watch. I got to thank Ame for recommending this channel.
i binge watch these videos for the serenity and peacefulness
I have to say I've been watching your videos for about a year now and nothing excites me more than seeing a new upload from you. I love what you do and that you provide these fishies such good homes.
Whenever I have a stressed out day I watch this channel.
I don’t know much about oscars, but that little fish looks so healthy and happy!
Great way to start the day.
Your videos oozes class. My god your music selection is on point! This is one of the very best sides of youtube right here, this channel. I am really grateful to have you!
I remember my first oscar when I was a kid and he also had a pleco buddy with him as well. Grew to be as large as a dinner plate and his pleco buddy got to around over a foot long. He w=ould brutally try to eat anything including fingers, we fed him insects, shrimp, small bait fish and the occasional gecko. Sadly he found a way to flip the pleco on his back and gouged out his belly. Not long after, a typhoon hit and we had a power outage for over a week and by the time we transferred him to a tub he had grown too weak from lack of oxygen and passed away. Never had another oscar that grew to his size or lived as long as him ever again.
We had oscars growing up, 2 of them that were about 16 inches, and a common pleco named Hagrid who sat at about 24 inches long and would occasionally bully the Oscars.
@@rikimaru_vr hagrid? That's a nice name mate lmao
@@AgungNurhadiMukti ya it was like 03 and it became a self fulfilling prophecy. Moral of the story don let the kid name things after giants lol
So relaxing before bed 🐟🎶😴
I can't believe you actually chose what I suggested on the previous video. He looks so awsome!
I just sent my friend a link to this channel, we've both been watching for hours now feeling zen AF 😂
Yes!!! I’ve been waiting for so long! Been checking your everyday to see if you’ve posted yet or not. You are honestly the best aquarium channel on UA-cam :)
Wish there were more updates because your videos calm me down but I know how much work goes into every video. Keep up the good work!
Young oscars are so pretty! They are the most fearless fish I ever kept, they really take in interest in the outside world too.
I haven't had oscars, but I have seen my bettas staring out the window and gazing at the sunsets and watching the rain.
I think Oscars are like "my food comes from out there... More food please"
I’m a cellist and aquascape lover so this channel is perfect for me. You have a such exquisite taste! I LOVE the pieces you chose, both for the tank and the audio! 😍
This will be exciting to watch. I have read that Oscar's have 2 moods, over dramatic or aggressive. Lol
Kinda. Mine were never aggressive. Tbh they are big babies. But you got dramatic right. Curious and pouty
Accurate lol
I can't wait to keep up with this tank! I had the exact same two fish growing up!!
They're beautiful! Pets, or our kids for that matter, never like us when we try helping 😂
Your videos take so much of my stress away, thank you 😊
It felt like a sin to watch this when you’re busy
They are incredibly beautiful. The colors of the Oscars😍 and the pleco 💚
Now hopefully they'll be good little babies!🤗 😄
Thank you for sharing!! Have a wonderful day!!! 💚🙏🙏🌿🐟🌿
Thats a lovely oscar mate, was curious what oscar are you getting but getting a all natural wild is just amazing.
Awww silly little baby! Sooo cute! Great aquarium build and good care!
Bless your channel that protects us from the shit year that is 2020.
2020 is only the beginning. Why would you think 2021 would get any better?
@@Varangian_af_Scaniae Hope. If you don't have hope, then you're already dead.
@@Varangian_af_Scaniae nobody's expecting problems to magically vanish in 2021. it's just that 2020 being over is a metaphorical new beginning and brings with it a sense of hope.
2:19 I like how this conflict is in sync with the dramatic part of the song lol
One recommendation I have for food that is too big is a pill crusher! Mine is a twist method. I use it to crush pleco wafers into smaller pieces for my shrimp, and shrimp pellets into powder for baby shrimp. Helps a lot with not overfeeding!
Seemed so scared, just like any pet in a new home. Amazing how you get her to be calmer and more trusting. I can't wait to watch her or him grow.
I'm calling it now: this little guy (gal?) is going to be a real character when (s)he grows up! :-p
Beautiful. I think I get more excited for you videos than any others when they come across my feed!
The Oscar that I had back in the day would randomly go ape 💩 when someone would pass by. Only happened when he was full size. I understand why you wouldn’t want to have too much decorations in there.
I watch other aqua-based videos, but yours is so unique, appealing to my taste. There is such a calming effect. Thank you.
Her: its either me or the fish
Him: 🐠🚶🏻♂️🧍🏻♀️
I'm so happy to see a new inhabitant in such a beautiful tank! My dad had an oscar when I was a kid, and I have so many fond memories of that fish 💚 much love from AZ!
I miss keeping oscars.
Feel tempted to go get one after watching yours feed for the first time.
I wish they didnt get so darn big.
Gotta love Oscar man, they are smart, ferocious, not a picky eater, responsive, and can be trained easily.
Man you make some awesome tanks! Love the videos, keep them up!
This made my day I love this thank you
What a cutie 😘❤️!!!!! She or he is becoming more and more bold , confident , trusting , and BEAUTIFUL 💞!!! can't wait to see him grow and watch his progress !! GREAT 👌 VIDEO .. THANK YOU FOR bringing us alone !!!!
thats the most beutiful oscar i have ever seen :). Iknow u gonna take good care of him. Keep up the good work man!!
Little Oscar has alot of personality! I'm looking forward to seeing his/her progress videos!
why you gotta yeet his food like that 😭
Why did the oscar yeet himself into the filter then? 😂
😂
I think it's because the fish was afraid of him after that sump episode :')
Most pellets float until they're pushed down so he's throwing them so they don't float.
Awww. Poor lil dude was so scared at first. Glad to see he/she came around b/c of food lol.
This what I watch if I can't sleep, makes me sleepy
Thank you. I love watching these videos. I miss having an aquarium but living in the road in an rv isn't best for these lovelies.
The moment when the baby oscar stuck in the filter really are scary
my soul left my body tho 😐
YAY!! i’m so excited! i can’t believe the little stinker got himself stuck in the filter like that. they always find a way to get into trouble (: congratulations on your new friends! the fish are beautiful.

Love u man the way you take care of the fishes,I hope I find it in me to come close to the way you have kept the tank and the Oscar and Pleco 👍
So funny - if there's an opening and a way, most any fish will wiggle in, looking for errant snacks, lol... :)
words cannot express how much i appreciate these videos
Yay oscar!! And a beautiful one in fact. The filter rescue was amazing, as well as his tank of course. The oscar has quite an actitude hahaha.
Once again, your tanks are excellent and one of the main reasons I got into the hobby!
No, thank you for making this videos for us to watch ❤️
I love your videos, I watch them over and over again just to relax. Thank you.

Of all the places I would find this reference in a fish video
Oh god
"what are you doing *step* fishy"
Gorgeous Tank and you take such pride! Very appreciated.
Is there a reason your a throwing food so "violently" in the water?? Or is it just my idea?
To make it sink.
I was guessing it was to disturb the water's surface to attract the fish. I was sort of right in a backwards sort of way.
@@FootheFlowerhorn Ok! it makes sense now.. To break the surface tension in a scientific manner... haha :D
Watching him get out of this filter was great. The music was a perfect touch to the experience.
He had a whole anxiety attack because how u dropped him in there, poor thing
awesome additions, will be fun to watch them grow!
This is wonderful, but are your other tanks ok?
My beta just died after I clean her aquarium. Thanks for the videos. It calms me a bit. Your oscar is so cute with his personality
I was crying 29 minutes ago now I’m ok- wtf
Yo me too ✌️ always come here after crying lol
I'm glad to see your posts again. I just love your videos.
We has banana for scale but more realistic measurement is a pen for scale.
SO looking forward to more on the golden nugget!
Got a new Oscar a some months ago, and two L085 golden nuggets a couple of weeks ago (though they were closer to 6") .
All I'm saying is, Life ... Finds a way.
Says the fly.....
Nice job on the inside filter system you built- that is an excellent design. I especially like the skimmer feature on the intake
. Is there some sort of safety feature if the water level falls below the inlet level of the skimmer?
Was the pen just to reference his size or some sort of training?
Size
I've never seen a tiny Oscar like that he must be very young gotta admit can't wait till he's fully grown he's going to have some awesome colors hopefully and also that's a very cute little pleco you have there
Damn I get goosebumps because this is so relaxing, keep up the great work.
These are the best damn videos. Intrigue, suspense, amazing visuals. Seriously. I absolutely adore every single bit of this content. Thank you for sharing!!
Hes gonna look amazing, thanks for sharing
Your videos bring absolute peace to me.
I love oscars. My first oscar grew so fast. He would jump out of the tank. Finally had a huge brick on top of tank cover but sadly jumped out when I was at work. Enjoy your Oscar they are a lot of fun.
Your videos are always so beautifully done. Very zen.
I love how at one point, he just lets the stick take him 😂
