      I agree. As much as I loved ST Voyager, they could have built or modified the Aeroshuttle/Captain's Yacht ship underneath the saucer section and called it the Delta Flyer (keeping much of the original ideas/episodes along with it throughout the series). The special effects teams wouldn't have had to work harder to render it and it would have made sense since the Voyager's hangar had like dozens of shuttles (including Neelix's) as it was.

      The Delta Flyer being a ground up new shuttle would have all owed them to fix those issues in some cases, utilize technologies and integrate in a more effective manner, especially the Borg technology that Voyager obtained in the fight against Species 8472 and the Flyer made heavy use of.

      I would definitely fly a Delta Flyer if I could. While the automated controls of Starfleet's vessels are impressive, I've always considered really nice buttons, triggers, and gimbals layed out with advanced intuitive macros to be the future, especially if they're solid holograms. EC Henry did a great video about why the transparent holograms are terrible.
      having a high performance vessel is just so much more fun too, though it seems people have decided that capital ships like the Galaxy class should just be able to turn on a dime like it weighs as much as a Delta Flyer.

    • @casbot71
      @casbot71 3 роки тому +3

      Perhaps later versions of the design, or ships "inspired" by the Delta Flyer, so that it becomes a new standard class in StarFleet - the _high performance large shuttle/small starship_ that's more *combat explorer* than the Runabout class, which is more a general workhorse.

    • @keyboardt8276
      @keyboardt8276 3 роки тому

      @@xymaryai8283 due to the extreme precision required to control a craft that accelerates at thousands of gravities and typically travels at a significant fraction of the speed of light I think analog controls are pretty impractical for a normal person. Sure you can use them to activate macros like you said but at that point there wouldn't be much advantage over using touchscreens apart from the fun factor. Also, due to the lack of air resistance a larger and heavier ship can be just as agile as a smaller ship if it has the engine power to match, so it isn't outlandish that a ship can maneuver as well as a shuttle (in fact universes like star wars where larger ships move ponderously and fighters zip around don't match up to the reality)

      @@RealBadGaming52 I have to agree. Lore Reloaded is a one tick pony, he knows TNG, DS9, and Voyager very well, but he admits to having never really watched or being familiar with the original Star Trek. Over time I have lost a lot of my respect for him. He was always very left of center and even before 2020 he was pretty woke. I remember at the end of one of his videos he had a clip that made fun of Christians, thats ok, im an old South Park and Dave Chapel fan, but that also means that you then pick on everyone else equally, if your going to make fun of Christians, then also make fun of Jewish people, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus and all the others. Picking only on Christians is cowardly in our new normal of systemic and institutional Christian phobia, and it really showed his true character. And Im someone who no longer believes in Christianity, so I was not offended, I was just very very disappointed. Then a couple of years later I was watching a live stream of his, I was giving him a second chance, and he was a complete dick head. He had a problem with one viewer and went into a rant about how that viewer should be so successful to have 112 views of their live stream. I was like "Wow" this guy is full of himself. Again I was very disappointed in him. He is a smart guy but he is stuck in his little corner of fandum and I think he is afraid to venture out of it. He relies on the small bit of trivia he knows, not on learning anything else, not on any other franchise but Star Trek. For me I go to this channel and a few other good channels for Sci fi stuff and I'm a big fan of Nerdrotic and AZ and the gang of Friday night tights, which I think is really a group of people that speak for the old tried and true fandom of Star Trek, Star Wars, Marvel and DC comics, Dr. Who and may other franchises which are under assault by the culture destroying and fan hating cult of Woke in Hollywood, Entertainment, the press and other institutions.

Questions would include how much work would have to go into building and fixing the things compared to standard runabouts. If a Delta Flyer needs a lot of fine-tuning to work properly (like the sort of high-end sports car that inspired it), you needn't use it in mission profiles where a Danube would do just as well. Would you get a Porsche 911 with all the bells and whistles and then use it only to drive to and from work every day? Traffic jams and whatnot? That'd be a waste of money and engineering.

That way in battle she could have a form of the Prometheus's Multi-Vector Assault Mode and have a small flotilla to protect the main ship. Why I thought they could do this; how many shuttles did we see destroyed, not including Flyers and how many torpedo's fired?!

    The thing that I like about the ships of the line in Star Trek is they always seem to have enough space dedicated to things like engins, weapons, etc. But the shuttles are completely the opposite. They have everything built into them, but are just hollow boxes with a couple of seats. If you've got a power system, life supports, sensors and weapons it all has to go somewhere.

    • @animateddepression

      There's actually a lot of evidence that fighters are worth it in Star Trek. The scene in TNG where the Enterprise destroys a bunch of small drones with a single phaser volley often gets brought up as demonstrating that no fighter-like craft could ever survive in Star Trek, but those drones were vastly technologically outmatched, and there's been a lot more instances of ships completely missing targets that are far larger and slower than a fighter.

Consider also that a single Galaxy Class ship has routed a squadron of Maquis fighters with photon torpedo detonations (TNG: Preemptive Strike).
      I would say that fighters are present in Trek, but their role is minimal in starship combat due to their inability to produce equivalent power, and power generation in Trek is generally expressed as speed, defense, and firepower. Larger ships also carry more powerful sensors, which means better distance for weapon arcs and greater accuracy. So, fighter-sized craft are inferior in speed, defense, power, range, and sensor accuracy. The only category in which they might excel is maneuverability (but with inertial dampeners, ships like the Defiant can excel in this category too) but even this can be mitigated by a starship's superior range and sensor accuracy.

    • @zoro115-s6b
      @zoro115-s6b 3 роки тому

      @@Acrosurge The fighters in operation return were, in my opinion, being grossly misused. Which isn't surprising given starfleet being (theoretically) an organization dedicated to exploration first and warfare second.
      Obviously throwing a cloud of fighters against a capital ship unescorted is a bad idea, but in a fleet engagement, groups of fighters can definitely play a role, particularly in keeping enemies from focusing their shields on one quarter.
      There's also the bird of prey, which, while not exactly what's traditionally considered a fighter, is definitely fighter-like. The fact that ships with that same fundamental design philosophy remained a mainstay of the Klingon navy for over a century, and that the Defiant is essentially a federation bird of prey, says a lot about the effectiveness of fast, nimble ships in Star Trek.

    One of my favorite shuttles out of All Star Trek and especially because once you learn how complicated this thing was built. And how smart it was built you can appreciate that one engineer in Starfleet while they were designing the Voyager who put the industrial replicator just in the unlikely event they would need it.
    So I bet that one engineer got a promotion. And Starfleet that one engineer who was smart enough to put an industrial replicator. And you have to give props to lieutenant Paris for putting in buttons and levers.
    Why did he add buttons and levers well when you're in danger what's not going to fail on you you're a dashboard that requires power or buttons an levers.

    The idea that Voyager was capable of even building such a prototype while falling short on other resources is absurd, but the Delta Flyer was (to me) a better plot device than the Danube runabout. I don't hate the runabout. I love it, but using an RV to get some time off the station seems too mundane to play a tactical role as it has. Surely a station would have true starships (of the line) around to accommodate DS9's needs when the area was so strategically important. The Delta Flyer was something more extreme than an F-22, that some pilot built in his garage in his spare time. Brilliant but absurd
