I bought one. Took it to the range. Mags fell out smoothly, no stovepipes, no issues. I hammered 200 rounds as fast as possible and performed perfectly. I ordered a couple more mags and I’m VERY pleased. I appreciate the very detailed review this guy does. Intelligent and articulate guy for sure.

Bought mines a few weeks ago with tritium sights. Shoots very nice. All mags drop freely. No issues at all! Very nice gun!

First 1000 production had a lot of issues. After those party, they fixed all of their problems.

My STR 9 had constant stovepipes with multiple ammo brands and grains, also the common "mag wouldn't drop free" problem. I have seen reviews where both have happened. I returned it to Stoeger for repair. I received it back in about two weeks. (one week was the 4th of July week) They said the guide rod spring was too stiff, causing the slide to close too fast. They replaced the guide rod assembly. They also removed excess casting from the mag well. Now the mag drops out perfectly. I had only one failure to feed, but they polished the feed ramp as well.They say they shot 50 rounds through it with no problem. I have to take it back to the range to test it. Other than the the malfunctions, the gun feels and shoots great.

I have 1000 rounds... range, new, reloads, 147 gr, 115, hollow points, polymer covered.... zero issues
Took someone to the range and everytime he shot the gun had issues. When I shot.... no issues. We filmed it and he had a much more relaxed grip, kind of limp wristing it. When he gripped it firmer and controlled the recoil better, it cleared up

I just ordered one today, for $250!! You can't beat that at all... I'm willing to bet it's a better gun than the Glock... this gun just proves what I been saying, that majority guns $500+ are over priced!!
i bought one from a local pawn shop for 229.99, it just ate everything i feed it, man! Very good gun! i still have it, its my everyday carry gun and i recently bought me a brand new glock 17 gen 5 for X-Mas. haha that one stays at home.

Another great honest review of what seems to be a really good pistol. I love the amount of affordable handguns that have been coming out these last few years. The $400.00 and under market is getting better and better.

Just picked one up at PSA. $311.00, out the door! The Stoeger STR-9, is prolly the best budget gun for 2020. Put a CT weapon light on it, and call it done. 700 rounds through mine, without fail. Ergo's are right their with my P-10C, & Q5 Match. Thanks for the share!!
Weak ammo tends to eject poorly,premium ammo tends to eject properly...great review.

Thanks for the honest review. I can accept all of the pre-break-in glitches except for hot casings coming after me. I once had a casing get stuck between my nose and my glasses. Never again I said, there are too many pistols out there that always eject @ 4:00.

I broke my clip trying to remove the backstrap because the instructions weren't clear to me either. Stoeger replaced it with no issues. I have had no issues since. I've been very happy with this gun. Great review. Wish I would have seen this review before I bought as it would have been more helpful. I learned more about this gun. I did have some stove pipes but I have reduced the amount since I paid more attention to loading my clips and one of the things I did was I stopped using the speed loader
Clear and well explained Allen...It's a good deal and not bad for the price of $ 350.00...Shall consider this handgun as per your review and actual experienced and encounter with the gun.

Just brought this pistol haven’t put rounds through it yet but I’m definitely excited
I won one recently at my local gun shop. So far I've put 500rds of my handloads and 200rds of Blazer 115gr fmj threw it. Had one stovepipe from Blazer ammo. Fit finish is great. Ergonomics are spot on fits my hand like a glove. I'm definitely impressed with the quality and reliability for such a low priced handgun. Hopefully it continues to perform well but time will tell and round count. Not bad for 50bucks worth of raffle tickets. Edit: I bought 5 extra mags so I had 8 mags. They were all hard as hell to load at first but they've loosened up from use.
The break in metal mags faster I've always read and found that leaving them loaded for over 24 hours works like a charm
I must be the lucky person that have not had any issues with my str9. I have put about 500 rounds through mine and have had no issues. I got the 299.99 version that came with 2 mags and a speed loader. I love it and I use it for my daily carry gun.

Picked up one of the basic box specials used at Cabelas in Acworth Georgia last month. Came with the gun and two magazines for $200 plus tax. Ordered 3 more mags for $31.99 each plus $4.99 shipping. The gun had maybe a box put thru it with no ringing on the barrel or rubbing showing on the chamber hood or bolt face.. Brought it home and took it apart for a good cleaning and manipulation testing. Ended up ordering a small back strap for it from Stoeger USA..
Of the five magazines only one will drop free with no shaking or disruptive movement. Put about a 100 rounds of Fiocci 115gr 9mm thru it during break in and ran into several stovepipes or incomplete ejection/extraction of the cases. Moved to some NATO standard 124gr Winchester 9mm White box from Academy and extraction issues went away almost completely. Had several boxes of Remington Golden Sabre 124gr and 147gr 9mm rotated out of carry guns and the STR-9 really liked that ammo. No failures and cases were much more forcefully ejected than the Fiocci 115gr or Nato standard 124gr.
After around 600 rounds put thru her I'm having very few failures from anything other than the crappiest Atlanta Arms and Ammo 9mm that some ranges make you shoot in their facilities. My reloads with Hornaday's XTP bullets, 115gr and 124gr, cycle perfectly and predictably toss the spent shells out forward and to the right.. Testing a new load of 124gr Berry's plated RN bullets next week that I expect 1000-1100fps out of.
Kydex holsters for a G17/22 with adjustable retention work pretty well. Didn't have much luck with holsters for Smith and Wesson M&P 9's or 40's.. Making a holster for mine with a Protec 230 lumen light so I can move it to an evening and low light carry option.
I have one and also noticed that the extractor is weak and doesn’t launch the brass with authority. Mine had a 8 lb trigger pull so I sent it in for service and it now has a 4-5 lb trigger pull. They replaced the trigger assembly.

Just got this pistol loading mags is tough but damn this gun is butter smooth.

Toss that Stoeger-labelled loader and buy an aftermarket loader, often referred to as an UpLuLa.
The included loader doesn't insert the cartridges into the mag at the right angle and that increases the effort needed to insert the rounds easily.
Even brand new, with the UpLuLa, I was able to consistently fill the magazines.
2 stove pipes with 115 white box went to billot 124 grain no issue at all so far love it
Only review I’ve so far mention the tridium sights they are an extremely nice touch and at this price point I don’t see any other manufacturers offer that feature out of the box , though you forgot to mention the oversized trigger guard yet another nice addition for those with large hands and long fingers like I have , I own several pistols and this by far ranks up there with some higher end pistols in quality and features they I’ve paid almost double for , with that said this turned out to be my go too as a result of my larger hands , you gotta keep in mind now a days it’s very hard to find a compact or even a subcompact that will fit larger hands comfortably so for me between the ergonomics of the grip and trigger guard that’s a huge bonus for me and it’s all under 400 . Lastly I feel very unsafe firing a gun that does not fit my hands very well when I pull that trigger and stoeger seems to have the larger hand concept in mind .

from Turkey, same issue not fall freely from 2 0f 3 backstrap so that i use one of them. 3 mags and plastic bag are ok for 450$ in Turkey market. sometimes eject issue took place and feeding issue from the mags 3-4 time per 100shoots.
It ain't slow now!! Lol I ordered one but they taking their sweet time shipping it out, I'm almost ready to cancel it, hopefully Monday I'll hear something

Stovepipes? Lock the slide back when not in use to ease recoil spring tension, run it well lubed.
Stiff mag springs? My Shield would not fully load w/o a magulla for a year of being fully loaded. Be patient.
Patience is what so many lack..
I used a magazine loader that had a thicker tab that pushes the casing down better and slightly more forward than the original magazine loader. The original seems to not push the casing down far enough at the front. I used Hornady Critical Defense JHP ammo and it might load better with different bullet profiles.
Nice gun I will get one to go with my Stoeger Cougar also a great gun, much better than a Glock, by the way Gloc k should send you a check
I bought a Stoeger STR-9S Combat, their top of the line. It comes with fiber optic tactical high sights, a threaded barrel 4.7" with front and back serrations on the slide, RDO optics ready cut, a smooth flat trigger, an aluminum magwell, 3 backstraps, and three 20 rounds magazines included (yes, 3 mags are included). The internal mechanism is a clone of a Glock Gen 3. I ran 400 rounds through it. Had ZERO malfunctions, no issues, it is very accurate. ALL that for $499 dollars plus tax. An equivalent Glock would cost around $900 plus. I am very happy and impressed with the quality of this Stoeger model.
Good review -- a fair and thorough look at this new offering. My constructive criticism: if you want tp show something like that backstrap clip, take a well-lit, macro photo ahead of time, then insert it into the video in post-production.
have you ever done a reveiw of a Springfield XD 9 or any of Kimbers 9 mm or 45 cal?
I bought a couple recently when they had the rebate going, ended up costing me $175 each. I got the regular size and the compact, the only drawback is trying to get extra mags for these things and when you find them they’re 50 bucks apiece.

I was looking for a cheap 9mm and I’m very happy with this pistol. I left the 3 magazines loaded and the spring realest now. I sand a little the inside a they drop free now. I’m very accurate with this gun so it’s a great deal for what it has to offer
How has the reliability been for you? I saw an online review from a customer that it kept failing to feed and eject. Any problems so far?

I’ve had no issues with 200 rounds so far. Great pistol. Feels higher quality than what I paid. Just waiting for mags to become available
Matt Katz Is the only version available right now the base model with just one magazine? Would be great if they can sell the ones with extra mags and night sight.
Bobafeet1138 unfortunately that’s the only one I could find, but at $265 I had to pick it up, and it runs and feels better than I thought it would.
I see they have added an optics ready model to the lineup of STR-9 as well as a compact model. Buddy got one and it feels good. Haven't had the chance to shoot it yet......yet 😎
They do have one optics ready and comes with night sights and 3 mags

Does anyone know another alternative magazine that is compatible with the Stoeger STR 9? I want to buy a longer extended magazine that holds 32 rounds.
Bought the compact str9 today and it came with only one 13 round mag, anyone know where I can find more, cant seem to find any except the 15 round mag.

Right now during the tp panic, both this pistol , the str 9, and the canik " tp "9 SF are available for 299.99 at academy. All we have where I live is academy, and getting inside of that store, during ....... Well there's a wait. I really think I would prefer the canik, but I'm seriously thinking of settling for this pistol. Ahhh, or can just wait, I really want the canik.👍👍

What are they charging for extra mags?
We bought the STR-9 and got a lemon. It jammed every other round. The take down lever fell out of the gun when cleaning. Sent it back to Stoeger free of charge to see what they do. Will let you know what happens.
Did they send you a replacement?
They reworked our gun. It fires like it should now, but has the scars to show its hard life.

I think business is slow because most of the Guns are reliable, “most “ and everyone has a Gun that’s fits their needs and they’re comfortable with them . Plus The ordinary Gun owner outweighs the gun collector that’s why business is slow
