- The State Executive Service of Ukraine demolished the illegal building that belonged to the Russian Orthodox Church in the center of Kyiv. The Russian mass media howl about that Ukraine carried out the largest attack on the Russian Federation and Crimea since the beginning of the war using 102 unmanned aerial vehicles. "Russia is becoming a vassal of China", "unequal partnership", "power belongs to Beijing" and other conclusions from Putin's trip to China

Built without planning permission from Ukraine wasn't it? Therefore an enforced demolition of an illegal structure is now required, isn't it? Ukraine should sue Russia in the World Court for damages caused by the invation. This would give countries a leagal way to give Ukraine the seized Russian funds and punish Putin.
They won't do this becouse the Americans and Germans are scared some of their victims would do the same thing.
Ukrainians know that monuments of their dear despots are far more precious to Russian hearts than living things ,,, Too.

@@unsalbulent Presently, men between the ages of 20 and 25 are not conscripted into the Ukrainian army, but the government is lowering the draft age now because they have to. They're defending themselves against an invader that is ten times their size, and has a draft age beginning at 18.

I'm Ukrainian, living in Ukraine. Never left the country since the war began.
Q1 - why doesn't the above news report show the site BEFORE demolishing, specificaly the so-called three kiosks? As well as how many people kept coming to pray, bring candles and flowers all day May, 17? I guess anyone can google the photos of a beautiful church and monastery premises in Byzanthium style built as far back as 2012 in the heart of the Ukrainian capital. It was built NEXT to, not on the foundation of the historical site so much cared about by some authorities now, as if there is nothing more relevant to give attention and investment to. They now claim the church was an obstacle for archeological excavations and should rightly so be converted into a kid zone.
The church and monastery was demolished night May 16 to 17 2024, right in the heart of Ukrainian capital Kyiv, ordered by Ukrainian authorities. NOT rogue foreign occupants.
It was a place for people and prayer and, yes, founded next to the archeological site of the historic 10th century Church of the Tithes, which was built by the order of Prince Volodymyr the Great, who baptised Kyiv Rus'. Which actually makes sence - if there is no technical and financial opportunity to rebuild the site, at least the prayer will be restored.
The historical site the authorities claim to have protected by ruining the monastery has been there since 1928 when it was demolished by bolsheviks, second time in history, after Batu Khan siege of Kyiv. That makes Ukrainian authorities of today join quite a queer company of historical personas.
I'm Ukrainian, living in Ukraine and I believe there can be no legal or common sence excuse for such actions .
It hurts even more that the money raised for the demolishing works donated some local people who bragged about it in tha camera. The rubbles were cynically put in a huge black plastic bag, like a load of unsorted 'garbage'. This is what they called it, again, right in the mic of a local news reporter. The local news channels are covering it in a "What a good job we've done, comrades!" manner. Quote from the local news: "They are coming here (the demolished site) and praying in Russian language!" Yeap, actually there are still millions of citizens of Ukraine for whom it's the first language, the language they happen to think in. What's next? Massive lobotomy? Or cleansing?

ROC = Russian Orthodox Church for anyone else who might be confused.
Rather than the old Soviet Communist doctrine of being against the Church, Putin has embraced it as he realizes it's power. Rather a smart move as it connects Russia with many Orthodox Ukrainians and even clixks with rght wing religious people in the United States due to it's stance against LGBT, religions other than Christianity, and in general "decedent "western left leaning thinking.
It used to be that American Republicans were against the godless Soviet Communists but since the fall of Soviet Union religious conservatives in the US and around the world can find much common ground with the Russian Orthodox Church, Russia, and Putin. This is incredibly dangerous as many of these ultra religious people have much more faith in their imaginary bearded old guy in the Sky and anyone who claims to agree with them (like Donald Trump) for instance) than they do in freedom or democracy. Very frightening stuff this is....

@unsal. I'd say quite clearly Ukraine is attempting to balance saving their country from Putin and not destroying it themselves by going full tilt on mobilization. If lowering the age of conscription down to just 26 achieves the goal and preserves the younger guys then that's a good thing.

Please look into the Church in Odessa hit by a Russian missile and the other hundreds of churches destroyed by Russian troops. The Russian Orthodox Church is an arm of Putin's control, Ukraine needs to oppose it.
