So instead he tries to annex Ukraine and Belarus where the Slavic people originated before their expansion into Preussen and Böhmen (Former East Germany now Poland and Czechoslovakia), Dalmatia (Former East Italy now Slovenia and Croatia), Balkans then East towards Asia (Now Russia).

Patriarch kirill, putin's buddy, wants to sit on the throne at St. Sophia and be given the title of Patriarch of Kyiv and Moscow, signaling a reunification under his leadership. The Russian Orthodox Church was originally founded under the Patriarch of Kyiv's leadership. The invasion of Crimea resulted in the breaking away of most Ukrainian Orthodox and the formation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Chruch which has been recognized as an equal by all the other Eastern Orthodox Churches' Patriarchs, especially Bartholomew I, Archbishop of Constantinople, regarded as the primus inter pares (first among equals) in the Eastern Orthodox Church, and as the spiritual leader of the Eastern Orthodox Christians worldwide. This was/is a slap in the face to kirill and started a schism between the RoC and all the other Eastern Orthodox Churches as well as the Roman Catholic Church. The RoC and kirill's predecessor Alexy II are in a large part responsible for putin's current status.

The latter I expect and from that it will follow, that the Ukranian church will separate from the Russian orhtodox church and unite with the Catholic church.
