Kikuo’s arrangements always feels like random notes being pressed, like an insane person is just hitting random chords and letting out all their inner emotions; and the way you played this (especially the way your hands were moving) really emphasised this and captured the way Kikuo’s pieces make you feel. Great job on this, it’s awesome!
The best thing about it is, Kikuo doesn't even know what music theory is, he just creates songs directly from his thoughts, and he is able to create masterpieces like this one

Nah, it's possible that they just took a more advanced class where the skills used in making arrangements such as this would be no longer usable. Or maybe they just have an exceptionally good ear and piano technique making them able to make this amazing arrangement, but their knowledge on theory is still lagging behind

Kikuo is really good at playing around with different sounds and notes to create the environment he wants for each song and I'd say it's challenging to translate all that to just the piano but you did an amazing job I'm in love with this cover
Is it me or is Japanese music more diverse in the chords they use and their song structures? Maybe I'm crazy but I do love Japanese music more than most western stuff just due to the originality of it, or at least the originality I feel that I'm perceiving :3
Japanese music does have their more common chords and its a different set from western stuff i guess, but stuff like Kikuo is just out of this world :^)
I noticed the different song structures too! Many western songs usually focus 90% of the structure around their singing and only 10% to the instrumental. There’s hardly any instrumental breaks, let alone in the middle of the song. Japanese songs have more like 60% singing and 40% instrumental. There’s usually a long instrumental in the beginning, almost always some kind of instrumental break during the middle, and then another long instrumental at the end.
@@catcactus1234 so I actually study music and while it is true that some Japanese composers have their preferred chord progressions (e.g. IV V7 iii vi, which you can notice in ryuichi sakamoto's, Joe hisaishi, or even anime openings), the part of the division between instrumental and vocals is not true, it might seem so if you cherry-pick your musical examples to reach that conclusion though. with that being said, I'd consider many japanese music inspired by north american jazz and european impressionist and romantic music, hence the more interesting chords. I hope I don't come off as pretentious, I'm just trying to inform
the "aishite" part in the chorus uses a VI7 V7(maj) i9 iv7sus2 chord progression which alone is already much more interesting than the common I V vi IV in american pop which many times loops through the whole song
