    I feel so fortunate that I at least experienced my godmothers anything goes type church from time to time . People were openly gay , openly trans, talking about abortions being ok and letting in all kinds of homeless people and drug addicts into service . This was in San Francisco in the 90s. I am a spiritual person but don’t align with any religion… I’m not sure what you would call this type of Christianity that I got to experience with my godmother , but it was beautiful. So unlike anything else I’ve ever experienced, never heard a judgemental word out of anyone’s mouth that went to that church . My godmother was a bad ass, she would go to San Quentin prison , pray for people and do her Jesus love work . At her funeral , so many people came forward and said she helped them get off heroin …
    I say all this to say , to be a true Christian, you have to love gay and trans people . I’ve seen with my own eyes it’s possible , for years on end , unwaivering love and support .

      Literally.
      An example:
      His wife was divorcing him, he went rock climbing and the light from the sun hit him because his visor wasn't down. He literally took that and started repeating scripture about the "sun shining for thee" and then started talking about his favorite scriptures and what their relationships to the sun and scientific justifications would be based on that.
      Like literally Bible theory. And that was the entire conversation the entire car ride... for an hour.

    Hey, I don't understand why no one considered that the "gay ex dad" is actually bisexual. Perhaps that explains why he is more radical with his views, since he cannot understand why others "choose" homosexuality. Sexuality is ultimately a spectrum, right? Perhaps that is the reason why many people defend this idea that sexuality is a choice, the fact that the majority of humanity is actually bisexual by default.

    About “Hamam”, Turkish Bath/Bathhouses in English; these are also all over the Middle East in general.
    My dad is Palestinian from Syria and I went to Damascus as a 12 year old and went to one of these and heard they offered massages and pictures an American style one. Instead, I got a lathered soap massage from a chubby, hairy old middle-eastern man. Was a bit traumatized by that 😂.

    I find it so hilarious that when the guy was like “homosexuality used to be a disease” and the guy replied “…in the age of Freud.” Even Freud in all his crazy “theories” still had the common sense to know that homosexuality was unchangeable. He actually stated that in a letter to one of his patients that was trying to convert their child. Freud was an ally.

    • @jacobsbratify
      @jacobsbratify 5 місяців тому +1

      Because the original bringing up of moving past Freuds era is no longer categorizing homosexuality as a mental illness. Because it is not. It is a phenomenon that exists within nature that can be perceived by anyone with eyes, across a multitude of species, not just primates like humans

      @@jacobsbratify you have completely misunderstood. I’m annoyed by people who believe that we exist at the pinnacle of human innovation and achievement. If Freud can be proven wrong (like the repressed man said) then why can’t our old understandings of sexuality and gender be wrong?

    @kpoplover1901 5 місяців тому +2

    Religious people always do this. I can say that because I grew up in a cultural church with peers who would talk like this. It is infuriating. Everything they justify is through the lens of submitting to God. Hasan's point about conservatives being scared of the unknown was interesting considering how the whole point of faith is believing in something you cannot see, and cannot fully understand. To truly submit to God and his plans is to understand your lack of control and to place unwavering trust in him. Meanwhile people like this get to judge and criticize others for living a certain way and justify their own behaviors; I've met way too many doing horrible things.

    • @drewhempwood2113
      @drewhempwood2113 5 місяців тому

      Yeah but it's the opposite. They trust in God and give any thoughts about things that are uncertain (death, how I should live my life, am I agood man, where did we come from) it gives all those worries away to something else that tells you all the answers without having to think about it. Or even get to know yourself. Because HE already knows you. It let's you totally turn ur brain off and just have an instruction manual. It makes tota sense with being afraid of what you don't know.
