Love your channel, found it a few weeks ago and subscribed. As of now we live on the sunshine coast in British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦 . We bought 192 acres in northern BC about 25 minutes south of Prince George an definitely want different animals and have found your video's extremely helpful an realistic. Our goal will be to raise as much as our own meat and vegetables for our family as possible and possibly going into some sort of small business selling different meats an such. For now though just for us, we are gonna start with Berkshire pigs and I've been trying to decide if i should get a breeding pair or just start with some piglets. So thanks for the helpful video's, you have some really helpful tips.

Richard from South Africa. Love the animal names. My chickens started, Lemon and Herb , their offspring had all herb names and second generation was all spice names and there was to much of them to name:-). Just a tip from my side, Chickens are excellent in combatting flies. Fly larwes hatch in about 4 days in the cow dung, chicken feed on larwes and scrop the pasture. Enjoy your venture.

We are in northern Polk county, we’ve been raising feeders over the winter for 3 years now. Super easy!

Would love to hear about your water and bedding/shelter setup for winter if you are able to share!

@@scottfamilyhomestead heated water buckets work, Blaine F & F carries them. Or a low profile stock tank with heater also works, slide the tank under the fence 1/2 way so the heater is not accessible to the pigs because they will grab the cord 🤦🏼‍♀️. For shelters we use calf huts with lots of straw or the small goat style pallet shelters with straw also work great. We use them both. Pigs are really lazy in the winter (but aren’t they always, lol) so they come out to eat and then back to the shelters. We have both Gloucestershire Old Spot and IPP breeds, they do excellent. The young feeders will occasionally run their zoomies for play time but then go back to their houses. Most important is give your boar a buddy to stay warm with. We give him a barrow feeder and they live perfectly happy together.

@@scottfamilyhomestead if you don’t have access to electricity the rubber feeder tubs work excellent for water twice daily, any ice formed is easily knocked out of the rubber style tubs

Great information for those considering raising beef, dairy and swine. All of your animals show a healthy bloom and are beautiful. As your children grow into 4H age, a halter trained calf will be a big benefit for showing them.
