    If you bury it it won’t stay on, so won’t the stock tanks freeze?

    • @scottfamilyhomestead
      @scottfamilyhomestead 13 годин тому

      If the water supply lines freeze, or the power goes out, it will cause the stock tank to freeze up. This only happened once last year and I was able to thaw the lines and get things running again pretty quickly. Burying the lines does not increase the odds of freezing, it can actually provide more insulation, but it does make it difficult to thaw if they happen to freeze up. As a safety precaution, I do have a tank heater installed on the stock tank, but have never had to use it yet🤞

      @skoeplin1 Thank you. ❤️ I've only mentioned it briefly. She went down on the ice when we were having warmup/freeze cycles in December. We got to her quickly but she passed shortly after. The vet believes she broke her hip and possibly severed an artery in the fall. It was very unexpected.

    You know how you just need a tbsp or so of tomato paste but have to open a whole can-even that small one-then find a need for the rest or lose it in the fridge and find it all moldy? Yeah-well I got tired of buying the tubes-pricey, messy and they get lost too-so I freeze dried several cans, powdered it and put it in a mason jar. Omgoodness!!! Game changer! I’ve done this now with tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, and diced tomatoes. Never have to open a can and not use all of it again! Whatever I’m making with a tomato product is richer in flavor as well. One of the best ideas for using my freeze dryer for everyday use!

      @sarahschlosser1203 They do sag a bit between support bars with all quarts. They aren't loaded over their weight rating though and the supports are close. I was more concerned with our wire shelving as they were starting to sag quite a bit.

    • @scottfamilyhomestead
      @scottfamilyhomestead 13 днів тому

      @jenniferg1482 First step is to find out if you have any water or drainage issues and address that first. Roof, gutters, grading away from the barn, etc. As far as repointing, prioritize doorways, windows, and corners that need work because they will be the first areas to collapse. Then just take it one section at a time. It's a lot of work, but worth it!
