Hi guys, I'm so excited for you to be able to hear this. Big thanks to Toby for narrating. Sadly the video was immediately demonetized upon upload and subsequently won't be pushed by the algorithm. I decided that was fair given the subject matter, and I'd rather people could hear it in full than censored into the ground, so I posted it anyway. If you know someone who you think would enjoy the video then please share it with them, I think that's the best organic growth the video can hope for. Thanks so much for listening, and I hope you enjoy!
Thank you, Novum. You are driven by passion rather than greed, and I highly respect you for it. I find it more and more important as time goes on to acknowledge those who give, simply because they love to. I have been and will continue to share your videos with others. This channel is the culmination of both intelligence and passion and I just want you to know that I notice and truly value what you provide. We appreciate you! ❤️
Holy shit I’m so excited. I wish more content like this existed out there, this is an insane feat and thank you for bringing it to us. Also love how it had the line is on the screen, that helps my brain so much
I'm here.. On day one...! I'm so excited...!!! I'll share my thoughts in the comments as soon as I finish listening to the full story. For now, liking and commenting to please the almighty algorithm.
Holy moly, it's the voice of John Nyquist. Loving the book. Update: Oh man, I have a lot of big thoughts about this book. Both positive and critical. Overall, I really liked the book. I love sci-fi and this hits all the important notes of executing an idea well and exploring the human condition of it. Hitchhiker's Guide meets 1984's nihilism. A lot of the writing line by line feels very mature, even though some passages suffer from redundancy the book itself is written in an engaging way and has a lot of great flair that makes the reading enjoyable and engaging. I feel like the book has some structural issues, everything in the book is pointing to the conclusion, it's so pointed that the conclusion can be guessed at early on and it makes some of the present goings on in the book seems to overstay their welcome. There were some twists throughout the book, but the resolution felt a bit on the nose. I think the book would have benefited from some more "show, don't tell". eg. The device refused my pull and I found myself hitting it recklessly striking it. I careened to the side from my effort and used the new position my leg was in to violently kick the thing, I heard a snap as I fell to the ground. I couldn't tell if it was my foot, the device or something else. I rose with ragged breaths... The pacing feels solid. The introduction and climax feel tightest. The section building up to the climax could probably have done with more editing. With a couple sections that seem to over-explain concepts that the reader is probably comfortable with. I think it's fine to summarize the narrators lack of knowledge. Anytime we have to step through a narrator's failed attempts at manipulating something the book comes to a crawl. The repetition at the end is pretty intense. I feel like bullet pointing some of the concepts you wanted to go over. Alternatively, creating a list of points you wanted to go over after a rough draft and focus the writing more, could have helped make the writing more focused and punchier. There's a lot of great material that you are going over in the section that I really love. It feels like its undercut by a lot of the material being rehashed, reworded. But I think the main culprit are statements that distinguish without a difference. I don't want to get into spoiler territory. But a single statement that makes its point with punch hits heavier than having 3-4 sentences say approximately the same idea, sentiment. The book's title is too on the nose. It's probably the main actor in pointing to the conclusion. From the title I could have guessed much about the book. A summarizing title is good for an email or a thesis, but for a book a title should first make the reader want to find out more and, second enhance the reading experience. So, you get more points for being evocative here. Other titles that I think would have served better: Furion's Eye, Idle Wrath of a Dead God, Calamity's Metronome. I want to repeat, I love the book. I love the concept and execution. I don't need to explain that part because the book does that. Bravo on making a thing and putting it out into the world. I'm one book away from being an avid fan of your writing as well as video essays. So, take all the critical bits above with love, because I think foundationally you have the makings of a great writer. 😙
Excellent work, this is exactly the type of sci-fi I love pulling on and examining profound ideas. Makes a great companion piece to my latest obsession Attack on Titan, an anime that also deals with themes of inherited trauma and cyclical violence. I struggle with the idea of pacifism as a viable, practical way to live.
Wow! Just finished listening to it now. Was going to listen to it in parts, but couldn’t wait for the next chapter, so listened to it in one sitting. I was gripped from start to finish. Brilliant work. Loved it.
Thank you so much dude, sorry I've just seen this. There isn't currently, but I'm putting it on the list for the next month or so and will make an announcement once it is! Thanks again dude!
Why did I think it would be a good idea to start listening to this at 1AM? Well, who needs sleep, I guess 😂 But seriously, this is amazing. Definitely more than adequate to tide us over before the Midsommar video. Screw UA-cam for demonetizing it; I hope you can publish it elsewhere (maybe even irl?) because I just know it would do well and you definitely deserve to make a profit. (And Toby deserves major props as well!)
This was a good listen, man. It reminds me of CHRYSALIS, season 3 of the Dust podcast. If you haven't heard of it, I suggest checking it out, especially this particular series. Your narrator and the one in CHRYSALIS share similar "origin stories" and goals...

@@RESGorilla that’s exactly why I sought him out!
@@Novum_YT Hell yeah dude, got this in my watch later so I can listen after work!

No pressure obviously but I would love a “BTS” video about your process (coming up with the idea, writing it, etc.). Congrats on a job well done!
I think as soon as Midsommar vid is done I’m going to start doing a weekly podcast ish thing that could very much include that!
Very good prose. It's a rare enough thing.
I so appreciate getting to enjoy this work of yours for free, but is there any way to buy a physical copy too? Or maybe sometime in the future?
Thanks!
Thank you so much! Hope you enjoy it!
Your work deserves so much more attention! Is there an ebook or physical copy on sale somewhere?
Thank you so much dude, sorry I've just seen this. There isn't currently, but I'm putting it on the list for the next month or so and will make an announcement once it is! Thanks again dude!
thanks for putting this up for us, i love your longform content
Thank you so much, sorry I've only just seen this, that's incredibly generous, thank you!

How does this only have 3k views. This story is amazing, like a modern Twilight Zone. Keep writing, Novum, you are amazing!
Wow, you certainly have a gift here. I truly hope you keep writing, I can’t wait to see whatever else you come up with next.
Love your work, man! Midsommar is one of my all time favorites, probably behind The Lighthouse, so im hyped asf!
I’m going to listen at work on Sunday night! Congratulations on finishing, I can’t wait to hear what you’ve created 🎉
I had a hunch were this was going the second the "snake" was mentioned, but I'm so glad I stuck around. Loved it so much. Well done!
Is there a ebook version?
I hope so!
Simply amazing! Thank you for creating this story and sharing it with us. ❤🐍
Congratulations! Will give it a listen this week. Can’t wait for the Midsommar piece.
This is such a pleasant surprise! Tobys voice will be stuck in my head forever thanks to his work with the Ghost series
Thank you so much dude! I haven't listened to that I'll have to give it a go!
@@Novum_YT best 40k series out there in my opinion, highly highly recommend it
Congrats on this release, that must have been a lot of work! I'll set up some time to listen to this, I'm sure it'll be worth it!
Just downloaded..going to listen to this as I go to sleep tonight. Cheers
Absolutely incredible narration!! Loved it! Also, when is the Midsommar video estimated to be released?
It's available now, so sorry I missed this!
@@Novum_YT no worries! ❤️
wouldve been quite the short story im not really sure why its six and a half hours long
Honestly that’s not very long for an audiobook
Loving the Ari Aster vibes; this would translate so well to the screen!
Thank you so much dude, really glad you enjoyed it! Cheers for the support!
Many many thanks, I'm so looking forward to listening to it!!
