Story begins at 00:01:20. In the aftermath of a tragic motor accident in Norfolk, stories abound locally of strange visual and auditory phenomena. Can there really be such a thing as a ghost motor car? Our narrator is intrigued by the legend, but has no particular intention to visit the scene himself... Narrated/performed by Simon Stanhope, aka Bitesized Audio. Some background notes on the story and the author can be found in the video description. The description of the motor's travel as a great beast running and sauntering on the roads is poetic. E. F. Benson was an excellent author, and the story is excellently told! Thank you!
Excellent story✊❤️ Looking forward so much to “ War Horse” my daughters year at Wimbledon worked on the original horse, so we literally can’t wait to see it & of course you dear Simon✊❤️🥰❤️xxxxx
What a masterly piece of descriptive prose the driving section was, the story itself seemed almost secondary to that. Hearing it read aloud was an absolute treat.
An interesting view into the very beginning of the automobile age. Creepy enough to stick in my mind for a few days. And well read as usual, Simon. Thank you.
Simon provides the same intro to each episode. We know it. So, how is it that I don't skip forward? Again, we know it: we simply adore listening. Thank you. ❤
Hmm... A cautionary tale indeed - not for cars, but for their drivers. More and more modern vehicles connect themselves to the internet; they're loaded with infra-red sensors, vibration and heartbeat monitors, fingerpring detectors and driver-surveillance cameras, all busily recording an occupant's every move and live-streaming their data to 'the cloud'. It's quite unsettling. Will drivers involved in fatal accidents remain encoded 'ghosts in the machine' until their virtual selves can be hunted down and deleted? Information on the world-wide-web is passed from server to server and has an almost infinite capacity for backup and redundancy, so how would one go about laying such a virtual person to rest? I'm rather glad that I can only afford to ride an old bicycle these days.
Almost October rainy night a good pipe some coffee and my favourite story teller Can one ask for more? Glad you are back and have “broken your leg” on stage Reet grand! Please keep up the great work
Glad you found a moment to bring us a treat!! We're here no matter what, whenever you have time. It's much more exciting to be doing theater work, at least I would think so (played Ophelia, Nancy, in Oliver, Alice, in Alice in Wonderland myself in local theater~ the best fun!) Doing what you love, and getting paid for it~that's the trick, eh? As always, saving this for bedtime... So looking forward, lol, (and will be for hours because it's just the start of my day at 4:30 a.m. here!) Thanks again Simon!!! 💙
Thanks so much for your lovely comment @Frenchblue8 - yes indeed, it's wonderful to be back on stage. You've clearly played a few choice roles yourself! I hope you enjoy listening whenever you're able to
Thank you so much for this wonderful story! I hope the play is going well. I enjoyed seeing how the horse puppets were made and operated. Fascinating!❤
Thank you dear Simon, wonderful performance as always, and E.F.Benson's excellent storytelling, what a treat! So happy to hear your tour with Warhorse is going so well, Bravo!
Many thanks for the whole series - much appreciated. My interest in ghost stories began at a very early age when I began to read 'The Evening Standard Book of Strange Stories', a battered old hardcover previously owned by my mother in her childhood. No-one else in my family has ever understood my penchant for the macabre! But I much prefer the English style of understated fear to what comes from across the pond.
Well that was strange wonderful use of English language. Can’t make my mind up another couple of listens and I’ll get my head around it Thanks as always Simon
When hubby was laid up in bed after his knee surgery, I enjoyed tucking the old fellow in...and playing these stories for him. He is one of those 'secret society' folks, a person who loves a fine story, well read, in excellent voice.
All well, thanks Pippa. I don't know if you've seen my recent community posts, but I'm on tour in a play at the moment (the revival of 'War Horse', touring to various theatres in the UK plus Dublin). I've been a bit quiet on here during the rehearsal period and previews, but now the show is up and running - we officially opened a couple of weeks ago - I hope to have a bit more time to record some more content for the channel!
Hoooorrrraaaayyyy. I can't listen just yet, but shall do so later when I can listen in peace. Can't wait! Have your theatre performances finished? If so, how was it? Bril!iant, I'm sure. 😍 Thank you for posting this story 😘
Thanks Nicky, I hope you enjoy when you're able to listen. No, the performances aren't over for a while yet - we've only just begun really, my contract is until June next year! All going well though. Now I've settled into a rhythm, I should have a bit more time to record new stories to upload soon, rest assured! Best wishes
Hi, Simon. Is your tour over? Did you have fun? I hope you did, or are if still touring. Thanks for the story, I was surprised and happy to find you back in my algorithm, even though I listen at least once a day, UA-cam has been less than generous with your station.
Thanks Tammy. No, far from over yet... my contract is until June next year! All going well though. Settling into a rhythm now, so I should have a bit more time to record new stories soon
Welcome to the channel Tom, thank you for listening! I hope you enjoy... I've covered a range of different authors and styles, and more to come as and when I can
I appreciate your comments and feedback, thank you Terry. I also can't abide AI in any form, either in "artwork" or as narration, so I'm doing my best to keep the side going for those who like real voices!

You are " incomperable "in your performances . Have been with you for a good while and have even had a discussion with Tony Walker concerning you ... But his best defence was to tell me that "This was why 'you tube' leavres everyonen with the choice to listen to the person they so want ...

Simon's mellifluous voice, acting ability, and story telling is outstanding.
Thank you!
Glad you are back 🫡
How lovely for you to be with us again.
Always miss you. 🧡
The commentary on the driving habits of drivers , is still valid today.
The description of the motor's travel as a great beast running and sauntering on the roads is poetic. E. F. Benson was an excellent author, and the story is excellently told! Thank you!
Yes very poetic! Agree
It's an excellent description. Those old big cars were incredible! 😊
Woohoo ! So happy to have another story narrated by you. Thank you !
Our breath of fresh air back ❤
So happy you're back. Thank you Mr. Stanhope.
Excellent story✊❤️

Wonderful! Do let me know when you're able to come along
A beautifully narrated story as always, thank you Simon.
Brilliant again, Simon. Great choice of story and you breathed so much life into it!
I am extremely glad to hear your narration again, dear Simon!
Now I’m glad I’m awake at 1.30 am!! 😀♥️
Good insight into early 20th century motoring. Thank you for another ghostly tale.
Yay, Simon is back 👏👏👏
What a masterly piece of descriptive prose the driving section was, the story itself seemed almost secondary to that. Hearing it read aloud was an absolute treat.
True, much of the story is loving essay to the joy of motoring around the English countryside.
Yes, very lyrical, elaborated so well on the initial metaphor, and supplied with assonance, too - "ripped ribbon of road" 🤓
Way too much driving fluff and otherwise little by way of an engaging story.
This is the first time I've ever seen a video that said it was uploaded 9 seconds ago. Enjoy your narrations very much, thank you!
Great! A ghost story, thanks Mr. Simon 👍
Yay! It's that time of year again, and there's no-one better to take us through it! ❤
Appreciated, thanks Anna!
Thank you kind sir!
You're most welcome!

Thank you, Simon!
What a treat fir October Eve.
Oh, please consider doing The Legend of Sleepy Hollow! Please?
It's on my list... I'm not going to be able to get around to it for a while yet I'm afraid, but I've certainly got it in mind
Ty for the lovely read Simon❤

Just in time for lunch - how civilised :D thanks Simon
Loved it. Good story, and once again
your performance was excellent🙂

Love your readings. Hope you do another murder/detective story soon.
Thank you !
Hello Simon. I don't listen to your ghost stories but I listen to the introduction. Thank you for presenting other wonderful stories ❤
I loo your stories and listen to a single one multiple nights in a row and even come back to one months later
You’re Shakespearean
What a lovely comment, thank you!
I love EF Benson.
Oh nice surprise. You’re back. ❤️
Yay❣ It's so nice to hear from you!
Hear hear! Thank you for the work you put into your storytelling, Simon. Brilliant 🥰
I was just worrying about you last night! Glad you are back. x

@BitesizedAudio congratulations, Simon!! I hope you share some more pictures.
So good to have you back here again! I hope you & the rest of the cast have been breaking theatrical legs as you toured about.
😅😅. Best discipline of a car and its antics ever.
Excellent 👌🏻🎉
Hello, Mr. Stanhope. My name is Tom. First time here, let's hear a story, wot,? 😊🎉
You will not regret it. Simon's narrations are a complete joy.
Welcome to the channel Tom, thank you for listening! I hope you enjoy... I've covered a range of different authors and styles, and more to come as and when I can
Great❤
Howdy howdy from Ken tuck ee!
At last, a real life narrator. The ‘AI’ that some sites now use is absolutely awful. It is killing the art of storytelling. Utter robotic rubbish.
So true!
Simon is superb! Don't miss a thing, he's got a hundred or so stories. A Christmas Carol read by Simon is a real treat.
I appreciate your comments and feedback, thank you Terry. I also can't abide AI in any form, either in "artwork" or as narration, so I'm doing my best to keep the side going for those who like real voices!
Agreed, the Awful Ai mispronunciation and odd spacing, occasionally in the middle of a word.
@@BitesizedAudioThank you Simon. You're a true professional. Love your channel! 😊
Thanks
Dziękuję
Now, I understand what it was like to take to the road before the Model-T.
I definitely believe there can be ghostly things, like cars, just like the ghosts of people who aren't yet ready to cross over to the Other Side.
I think the energy from things can linger on, just like ghost ships. 👻
*E.F. Benson* he is as scary & disturbing as *M.R. James* or their writing is I should say, not the authors necessarily🤔
I know ghost stories are your thing but I would love to hear more mystery and deceptive and maybe
Noted, thanks Paula. Actually, I think the majority of the stories I've done on the channel aren't ghost stories... the majority were detective/mystery last time I checked. We're in ghost story season now so I have a few lined up, but rest assured I have other content in the pipeline too...

Must be something with ghost motor cars in Norfolk... 😮
Hmmm yes, something of a pattern developing here!
Hmmmmm. First one I’ve given up on.
I keep forgetting the name of the piano piece at the beginning of the video. Can someone remind me of the name?
Hello Frank, it's called 'Remembering Her', by Esther Abrami, from the UA-cam creators' library
@@BitesizedAudio Thank you
SIMON HOW ARE YOU
All well thanks Page Burner. Hectic and busy, but that's good! Hope all's well with you too
I couldn't keep up with this story for some reason but that's not your fault🤷
Agree.found the story hard to follow.well read as always .but I finished 😮

💀 ❤💀
Police traps! Aha
Most queer occurrences on these dusty English roads.
Excellent performance but not my favorite story.
Boring..but well read
Well it seems like Road rage was a Problem in the past as well
Some things never change...
