    Snickerdoodles have to be the most adorably goofy cookie name out there - thanks for this recipe and the wholesome vibes! Both especially needed today! Hope you and your family are well, John.

    These are definitely my go-to when I need a super-quick, easy recipe for cookies. So simple yet so delicious. For different holidays, I’ll play around with different spices to complement whatever spices are in use in other dishes. Some nutmeg, cloves, ginger, cardamom, allspice, or other spices of that nature added to the cinnamon/sugar mixture can bring different aromas and flavors to the cookies. You just have to be careful not to overdo it since some of those can be overwhelming if you use too much. You can also add different extracts in place of the vanilla; almond extract is a great one.

    I'm making these for my best friend's 18th birthday. He loves snickerdoodles, but he hates when people buy him gifts because it makes him feel guilty and like he needs to buy them something of equal value. He eventually agreed to let me get him something if it was homemade, so I'm glad my favorite channel had a recipe for it!

    Here is Australia no one ever makes or has eaten Snickerdoodles. Then one day I found a recipe in a Nigella book and decided to make them because of how easy they were and how ridiculous the name is. I loved them and now I make them all the time. They are my absolute go to and everyone is always intrigued by their deliciousness when I do. ☺️

    I’ve done both recipes, and this one was DEFINITELY easier than the previous recipe! I made about 32 cookies in total with this recipe and it was fairly hassle free. I had no concerns about it not rising, and every cookie came out great.
    My only issue was beating the butter and sugar with a hand mixer. I don’t think it was very productive and I ended up just putting on some gloves and doing it manually by hand. Beyond this little hiccup, all went smoothly with this recipe and everyone loved it! It was fluffy and there was no concerns about it being raw in any way.

      Making your own vanilla is super easy. The basic idea is take a glass jar with a tight fitting lid and fill it with a high proof alcohol, like vodka and add lower grade B vanilla beans, and make sure the beans are fully immersed. Leave the jar tightly capped for 6 months to a year or more. Shake the jar once a week or so. This is the basic idea. Lower grade B vanilla beans are cheaper AND they're the ideal beans to make extract with. I've made vanilla extract with bourbon and vodka. Bourbon was a nice match to the Madagascar vanilla beans I used but it took too long to make compared to just simple cheap vodka. If you can afford it, double fold vanilla is extremely special to use. Double fold basically means you use twice as many beans as the recipe calls for and you get extra strong vanilla. I found my vanilla extract recipes online and bought my grade B vanilla beans from an eBay seller.
      I tend to let my beans steep at least 6 months and then remove the lid, put cheesecloth over the opening and let it sit for a while to off-gas the scent of alcohol. (The cheesecloth is to make sure nothing can fall into the container while still allowing for gas exchange.)

    • @Crystalini1984
      @Crystalini1984 Рік тому

      @jessicaharris1608 do you remove the beans from the pod? Or just slice the pod open? That seems very easy but I didn't realize it took so long. How much alcohol is used?

    • @jessicaharris1608
      @jessicaharris1608 Рік тому +1

      @Crystalini1984
      I just sliced my beans open. How much alcohol depends on how much you want to make and how many beans you have. I used the cheapest vodka I could find. I've also made extract using glycerin instead of alcohol but it's much more difficult. As I said, specific recipes you'll have to find online yourself, but I imagine at least 2 cups worth ensures the beans are completely immersed. I've seen recipes that say it can be ready in a month, but it's always better if you can soak the beans longer. It can make a nice gift if you plan ahead and package it nicely.
