As a Bostonian, I agree with you about frustrating tourists. However, because I have traveled to many different places outside of the US, I have learned so much about cultural differences, so I always take that into account before I get upset about anything. Also, Boston is such an eclectic, melting pot of people, that does help us to be more accommodating to visitors from all over.
I live here for more than 2 years and what I like and dislike about Iceland is: - the thing which I hate about Iceland the most is that HORRIBLE WEATHER! - on the other side I like people. They are very nice, relaxed, chilled, not stressing , they dont understimate the others (in my experiences) and always behave to others with respect (even they are in different positions). For example in my country are people many times very angry and rude to other without reason. because they can be. For example in bank to customers, doctors and nurses to patients, teachers to students, at all kinds of offices, etc.. Because they think they are something "more" than others or what, (because they know about situation more). Then people have low self confidence and understimets themselves which is sad :/ In iceland everybody everywhere was very kind to me..in bank, at school, at work (bosses acting like friends :o), at all offices Ive been to, which was very surprising for me. But thats how everybody should behave! we are all equals, nobody is "better" or "worse"! That Iceland taught me and Im thankful for it..
What country are you originally from? I want to know so I could avoid it. I kinda got the feeling Iceland was like that. It's because they are like one close family. I hope Iceland stays like that and people don't try to ruin it. I want to live there too! I believe everyone should be treated equal. I'm not a feminist though. I'm a child of God.
@@sidynqa YES I agree. I'm from Canada and I've been living in central Europe in the British part of Spain for three years now and the people are incredibly rude here(particularly the brits) .

I'm so sorry people called you ungrateful. There's just so many people that just look for a reason to piss and moan and can't take things for what they are. It's just you giving us a taste of what it's like where you live. I think that's great and I hope you continue to make videos like this.

1:56 I can really relate to that. It becomes especially problematic in school, when you are expected to write a text in a certain language, but your brain messes up and you suddenly can't remember how the word you have in your head translates into the required language.
Please understand, I have a lot of friends from other countries, but, there's one thing you *all* have in common. When frustration builds up, (usually because you're trying to explain something that frustrates you, and trying to express it in English), you wind up having to express what bothers you in your own language. I say this with love, it's kind of adorable and I get it. I grew up at a beach, so yeah; cars would be stretched out on the road for *miles* trying to inch their way along looking for a parking space so everyone and their sister could bring their trash onto our beautiful golden beaches...
The saddest moment is seeing you sad it almost made me cry, from 1:37 to 1:42, who ever was mean to you ignore them or block them, be happy and do your thing we are with you.
I don’t live in a small country but my town is small. Everyone knows everyone so when one person does something wrong someone else just goes and tells his mom on him. It doesn’t matter how old you are. We seem to have a lot of the same problems. Also, when it gets cold we don’t go skiing we all go sledding. We take our kids to the highest hill we can find and we just have fun. But, when it’s hot then everyone wants to go swimming. Thanks for the video. It’s cool seeing the similarities in our countries.
My guess is that it's underfunded by the government. Very few doctors, specialists and hospitals. Low pay which keeps people from training for healthcare jobs, etc. From an American. :-)
@@iggieagle6366 My wife is a nurse in the US me, a welder. I was looking to compare wages of the two professions. Nurse make considerably less in Iceland. With the cost of living so high who would want to go into a career that pays so little with such high level of education?
I get what you mean about tourists. I visited London only twice in my life (I'm from the UK and live in the North) and when I went it was absolutely heaving with tourists. I've never seen anywhere so busy. I felt so uncomfortable with the crowds. I don't know how people from London actually cope with all the people there. It's crazy. :O
Es gibt keinen Gott I'm only 1/4 German so I'll reply in English. If you name isn't a joke I would not go to Iceland. Iceland is highly religious. I do not recommend living there as a non Christian.

Soon you will be able to travel beautiful Iceland without tourists...all to yourself. My portal is closing, so I must go. Bless bless
Don't worry about the negative comments. You are allowed to hate and not like things. Just because you live and grow up somewhere does not mean you can't dislike things in the country. Your videos are always lots of fun to watch. I was crazy about Iceland when I found out it was the country with no mosquitoes and I came across your channel when I was trying to learn everything about Iceland. Thank you for your time and making these videos. You are doing amazing :) Stay safe and take care.
The tourist part! Yes! I personally don't live in Iceland as I'm an Italian BUT it's so annoying how EVERY SUMMER you will see tourists literally stealing sand, pieces of the colosseum and just peeing in the streets and throwing trash, I hate it! Some of them even shower in our fountains for some reason (especially one of our most important ones: La fontana di Trevi)
I don't feel your being negative , I'm from the USA and i don't know what it's like in your country like what you do and don't have so i feel your videos really educate me on your county , thank you so much i enjoy learning about your country
As a person who has spent most of their life in Minnesota, I can relate to your first complaint. Also, as an American, I can relate to living in a country where much of the population is terrible at their own language. Anyway, I'm happy your channel is around. It has been my plan for a while to eventually retire in Iceland, so it is nice to hear different perspectives.
In others countries also most people make mistakes in their native language. I think it's totally normal because a language is alive and evolve constantly. It's not related to the complexity of a language. A lot of languages have cases (German, Finnish...) and it's totally possible to learn them :) BTW your cat is so cute ❤️
Aloha! Just discovered your channel like a day ago and I’m really enjoying your content. Keep it up girl! Anyway just wanted to say that I totally get your point about the tourist and stuff. I live in Hawai’i and it’s the exact same thing here. It sucks but it is what it is. Keep up with the amazing content! Me Ke aloha Nui 🤙🏾
Europe has a lot of tourists as well BUT plus we have those motorhomes everywhere. So, you go to some remote spot and want to enjoy scenery by yourself, but then you might find there are already 2-3 motorhomes parked in the scenic spot. You want to drive somewhere, but traffic is so slow, because of some motorhome moving slowly and not letting anyone pass. Luckily there is no threat in Iceland for motorhome invasion.
As a Canadian that lived on the prairies, right there with ya with the winter issues with our cars. As soon as it gets below -10 we have to plug our cars in, and once it hits -40 in January or so (some places the poor bastards get -60) we still have issues starting cars. They gotta run for about 30 minutes and you hope the steeringwheel warmed up enough to not burn your hands on it. Then digging the snow out of the way to get out of the driveway is an added bonus. Tempermental weather, wind (though not as intense as what you guys get from what I've learned).
Don't pay attention to those negative comments. You are beautiful. Its ok to have your own opinion. Never let negative people stop you. I enjoy your videos.
Whenever you feel bit down in Iceland, visit Gimli, Manitoba, Canada. There are 40,000 Icelanders live there permanently. You can speak Icelandic there and get all Amazon parcels.
Hrafna, Hello from Russia! This is a grteat video, specially your speach in Iceladic. It's very beautiful. I adore scandinavian languages and know Norvegian language and now I want to start learning Icelandic! PS. You are great girl!
I actually understand your thing about tourists...I am visiting in February 2023 (low tourist season, thankfully) for the first time and I am ALREADY researching things about Iceland so I can make the most out of my trip AND be as respectful as possible. I have already taken the Icelandic pledge. I am from London, I love my city and its Royal Parks (in this place people leave litter, get FAR too close to the deer and don't respect these areas the way they should) but I understand what you mean about tourists being EVERYWHERE when you want to explore where you live, also...not all tourists but some; the lack of respect they can demonstrate for the place they are visiting is insane! It is not difficult to be a good and respectful tourist, just takes a little research.
I loved hearing Icelandic spoken by a native speaker, for once! I think that may well have been the first time I've ever heard it spoken by someone actually brought up in the language. It's so beautiful sounding! And yeah, it IS an extremely difficult language to learn... I love learning languages though so I'm up for a good challenge! I think the reason it's so hard is because it just hasn't really changed much since the Old Norse days due to its relative isolation from any leveling influences. In fact, I've often heard it said that modern-day Icelanders can quite easily read the Sagas with little to no translation necessary. I dunno how true that assertion really is (maybe you can clarify that for me?), but it seems at least plausible. Icelandic and Faroese, though, would surely be the closest anyone could get to hearing what Old Norse would've sounded like (similar to how Lithuanian is the closest anyone can hope to get to what Proto-Indo-European would've been like). It sounds cool as hell when you speak it! The fact that you can speak it so beautifully is so freaking awesome to a language-head like me :D In stark contrast to Icelandic, Danish, Swedish and Norwegian have all been extremely leveled out due to centuries of constant contact with both each other and neighboring countries. Now, they all resemble each other so much that you can get a Dane, Swede and a Norwegian together and watch them all comfortably have a conversation with each other with only minor concessions being made to accommodate the few differences that DO still exist. Actually, one thing I'm curious about is Icelandic's intelligibility with Faroese, if any. ARE they mutually intelligible to any degree? It seems like there would be, even if it were only small. Certainly they'd have to be more intelligible with each other than either is to the three mainland languages, right?
Tourists can be annoying sometimes. I used to live in french riviera and when summur comes around there it becames a mess. Too many people everywhere. It takes longer to to everything. People walk too slowly on the streets and there's people everywhere even early in the morning. You're trying to get to school or work or whatever and you can't because the tourists are blocking the way. I'm sorry but I hope I can visit Iceland one day, but I promiss no one will notice I'm not a local ♥
It never seems that You are complaining or ungrateful, You are just informing People that are thinking about Visiting or Moving there, don’t pay any attention to haters, I love Your Videos and information, thank you!!
Wonderful video. Informative. Esp liked the piece you spoke in Icelandic. Because I do not understand the words I could listen to the sound...so clipped and precise, like rounded shards of glass refracting slanting winter light into a million brilliant colors. Such a beautiful sounding language...
Your English is near perfect. You have a slight Scandinavian accent that in no way impedes understanding. Your diction, grammar, syntax, and use of colloquialisms is unassailable... masterful. Your style of English is very Americanized. Additionally, you seem very young. How did you become so fluent at such a young age? It seems like you must have spent years in North America with many attentive private tutors. If you have not, you are brilliant--- a genius with a special knack for languages.
Had the pleasure of visiting your country a couple weeks ago. I must agree with you regarding the weather. I'm from Florida and it felt like being in a Tropical Storm 24/7 and it did rain most days. But with that said we still enjoyed our time there and absolutely loved being away from people. We saw a few "touristy" sites, but we mostly kept to ourselves and loved driving through the countryside. Just stunning!
I Cannot imagine living in such a tiny, isolated, close knit community like Iceland. I am a Londoner so it is unimaginable. Yes I guess it is so safe and peaceful but I like the buzz here. However, because I have traveled to many different places outside of the US, I have learned so much about cultural differences, so I always take that into account before I get upset about anything. Also, Boston is such an eclectic, melting pot of people, that does help us to be more accommodating to visitors from all over.
I live here for more than 2 years and what I like and dislike about Iceland is:
- the thing which I hate about Iceland the most is that HORRIBLE WEATHER!
Then people have low self confidence and understimets themselves which is sad :/
In iceland everybody everywhere was very kind to me..in bank, at school, at work (bosses acting like friends :o), at all offices Ive been to, which was very surprising for me.
@@magicjesus3603 Central Europe :) I think each country is pretty the same there :/ but its only mine experience..
@@sidynqa YES I agree. I'm from Canada and I've been living in central Europe in the British part of Spain for three years now and the people are incredibly rude here(particularly the brits) .
@UCtZ3I_gAXR6dz7c0P-QGnHw good for you! :) I love boh Canada and Spain :) been there. now Im in London :D (love travelling :D )
come to Iceland one day..people are very nice :)
@@sidynqa yes I'd love to go to Iceland. I believe everyone is made by God and should be treated with equality and respect. Once you start putting people above each other and acting superior is when you get bitter people in society who end up shooting up schools. I bet Iceland doesn't have that issue very often
I'm so sorry people called you ungrateful. There's just so many people that just look for a reason to piss and moan and can't take things for what they are. It's just you giving us a taste of what it's like where you live. I think that's great and I hope you continue to make videos like this.
I know, people just want to hate others so badly that is just sad 😔
Worst things about living in Iceland
Sees Hatari in the thumbnail 😂😂😂
Hatari rocksss
Wtf is hatari
Martin Pintamalli that's rude
LAWOS JOSHUA LUKA look them up on UA-cam. They are an amazing band.
@@mirroroffthewall5932 Hahaha how can you be everywhere where Hatari is, even if you see a small thumbnail you click 😂 that's so funny
Poles have a hard time with Polish sometimes too.....haha
In fact, Hatari's music is not my type of music - usually. But I love them because they showed me what kind of country is Iceland or what kind of people live there. And I'm in love with all you now 💙🇮🇸
Hrafna is so frickin adorable!!! Especially when she speaks in Icelandic! And when she looks at the camera and goes, "Um...yeah"
your makeup looks FLAWLESS! i absolutely love your channel, especially the icelandic videos as i am trying to learn it. thank you 🥰
Anna Curdoglo (just letting you know that I’m giving you a tip!) you can use the app HiNative, tHIs ComMeNt Is SponCoereeeed- ok sorry lol I’ll stop, but seriously though, I love that app, Icelandic people help others learn their language and stuff like that
1:56 I can really relate to that.
Any Eurovision fans here?

This was the first year I watched the Eurovision and I'm obsess I love it so much

Do you know Hrafna in real life since there aren't many people in Iceland there is a big chance you know her or maybe she is your cousin
Why didn’t you explain why you don’t like the healthcare system in Iceland?
Didn’t want to start a riot in the comment section, I honestly just try not to talk about controversial topics on my channel❤️
My guess is that it's underfunded by the government. Very few doctors, specialists and hospitals. Low pay which keeps people from training for healthcare jobs, etc. From an American. :-)
Similar story in the UK tbh dw I think I get the gist of it
@@blewis66112 yeah 100% it's underfunded and severely under manned
@@iggieagle6366 My wife is a nurse in the US me, a welder. I was looking to compare wages of the two professions. Nurse make considerably less in Iceland. With the cost of living so high who would want to go into a career that pays so little with such high level of education?
I get what you mean about tourists. I visited London only twice in my life (I'm from the UK and live in the North) and when I went it was absolutely heaving with tourists. I've never seen anywhere so busy. I felt so uncomfortable with the crowds. I don't know how people from London actually cope with all the people there. It's crazy. :O
I love not far from London and I agree! I go there for a few hours and you can’t move 😂
In German , there is also genetive, Dative, accusative form and I am completely giving up learning this language .
My name is relating to this. I think it's very hard for foreigners to learn my mother-tongue.
Hrafna your makeup is works like a charm, I think I'm hypnotized a little bit.
I'm half German half Norwegian and I learnt Iceland in 6 months.
Es gibt keinen Gott I'm only 1/4 German so I'll reply in English. If you name isn't a joke I would not go to Iceland. Iceland is highly religious. I do not recommend living there as a non Christian.
Hrafna- I am from the future, I jumped through a wormhole, but I need to get a message to you. In 2020 a virus pandemic (no zombies) will consume the world and stop all travel. Soon you will be able to travel beautiful Iceland without tourists...all to yourself. My portal is closing, so I must go. Bless bless
Hi from Romania🇷🇴!
Hi! I'm not.
Hi! Another Romanian fan of Iceland here :)
Ceau Gogule xD
Serbs have: nominative, genitive, dative, accusative, vocative, locative, instrumental
There's also 7 in Polish.
Holy crap, you are so beautiful. Must be those viking genetics.
The best thing about Iceland is Hatari give concerts everywhere 😂😂❤
I see Hatari, I click. Hold up! What have they got to do with “worst”? 😂
6:10 in slavic languages you have that too
bbleh It’s sooo easy to explain though lol
I don't know what she's saying when she is speaking Icelandic, but it is very soothing to me. I could listen to her speak for hours.
Haha well not into Bjork so much , but I love Solstafir ( they are from Iceland too )
Great video ❤️
The tourist part! Yes! I personally don't live in Iceland as I'm an Italian BUT it's so annoying how EVERY SUMMER you will see tourists literally stealing sand, pieces of the colosseum and just peeing in the streets and throwing trash, I hate it! Some of them even shower in our fountains for some reason (especially one of our most important ones: La fontana di Trevi)
I don't feel your being negative , I'm from the USA and i don't know what it's like in your country like what you do and don't have so i feel your videos really educate me on your county , thank you so much i enjoy learning about your country
Iceland is fantastic! Laugavegur is one of my favorite streets in the world. You go girl!
Ditto, totally agree.
Yay congratulations on the 100,000 subscribers you super pretty 🎉💕
In others countries also most people make mistakes in their native language. I think it's totally normal because a language is alive and evolve constantly. It's not related to the complexity of a language. A lot of languages have cases (German, Finnish...) and it's totally possible to learn them :)
BTW your cat is so cute ❤️
How many silver play buttons are there now in Iceland?
The Gray maybe two with her and Hafthor Bjornsson
TheFrenchMC Sorelle Amore too however I don’t know if she still lives in Iceland since she does so much traveling
@@TheFrenchMC Mörges also has one, as well. I think.
@TheFrenchMC FinnSnow has also one but he lives in the Philippines now...
10:56 when the bird starts singing
ohh comeon this is an underrated comment! :)
Don't pay attention to those negative comments. You are beautiful. Its ok to have your own opinion. Never let negative people stop you. I enjoy your videos.
Absolutely love the Icelandic language so that spot made me smile
According to a google search, the top three most difficult languages are:
1. Mandarin Chinese
2. Arabic
3.Polish
Whenever you feel bit down in Iceland, visit Gimli, Manitoba, Canada. There are 40,000 Icelanders live there permanently. You can speak Icelandic there and get all Amazon parcels.
Hrafna, Hello from Russia! This is a grteat video, specially your speach in Iceladic. It's very beautiful. I adore scandinavian languages and know Norvegian language and now I want to start learning Icelandic!
PS. You are great girl!
Владимир Лекомцев how do you know norwegian?
You are an ABSOLUTE GEM.....Absolutely enthralling. I think I'm going to have to learn Icelandic. For no reason.
I still love Iceland with all of the bad things 😂😂😂 Hrafna
The fact that you can speak it so beautifully is so freaking awesome to a language-head like me :D
In stark contrast to Icelandic, Danish, Swedish and Norwegian have all been extremely leveled out due to centuries of constant contact with both each other and neighboring countries.
Congrats on your subscribers silver thingy. Luv ur videos. Very useful😆
I just noticed the cat, now I can’t take my eyes of it 😊
Tourists can be annoying sometimes.
Raise your hands if you, somehow ended up here after watching “The Story Of Fire Saga” on Netflix.
3:30 very normal weather, even the probability variability.
From Oregon to Colorado the weather is haphazard.
Why I can't see how much subscribers you have?
Ohhh ummm I have no idea!! Aahh
If she hides it from us it is uncool to do that but I don't see any other explanation
Pablo Angel haha nope I accidentally pressed something! I fixed it☺️👌🏻
Now I can see how much subscribers you have 😊
@@pabloangel6746 why would that be uncool? It doesnt matter how many subs she has
Your English is near perfect.
Congratulations on getting your plaque! Really enjoy watching your videos
I've seen Hatari so I've clicked 😂
Had the pleasure of visiting your country a couple weeks ago. I must agree with you regarding the weather. I'm from Florida and it felt like being in a Tropical Storm 24/7 and it did rain most days. But with that said we still enjoyed our time there and absolutely loved being away from people. We saw a few "touristy" sites, but we mostly kept to ourselves and loved driving through the countryside. Just stunning!
The best way to have an idea about what's going on in distant parts of the world is to travel and see everything in loco; I agree with you.
Any suggestions on how I might make an Icelandic friend of two online before I emigrate there? Bless
I Cannot imagine living in such a tiny, isolated, close knit community like Iceland. I am a Londoner so it is unimaginable.
Yes I guess it is so safe and peaceful but I like the buzz here.
Iceland must be like living on a desert island but if you have never known anything else it is impossible to explain.
If I met somebody from Iceland the first thing that I would ask is "What's your favourite black metal band?"
Didn't understand a word but Icelandic is so beautiful sounding.
When you are speaking Icelandic you looks so natural! Speaking English you bring back your youtube mask.
