This would be a hard pass for me, but I also have no nostalgia with the game. I can't think of any roll and move games that I would enjoy playing today. Growing up, I played in Monopoly tournaments and will argue that you should be able to get a game done in 90 mins if you play correctly. Most people play with free parking which means more money kept in circulation, leading to longer games. Secondly, people tend to hoard their properties before trading. and third, playing with auctions for unwanted properties will speed up the game as well. Will I ever play Monopoly again, probably not, but I will defend its legacy. I'll admit, the hotels in this game are pretty cool. Do you have a favorite hotel?
The President was always my favorite. It just looks so majestic when it’s fully built. The Boomarang can really help you get a leg up in the game because it’s right at the start and it’s easy to build. I agree with your take on Monopoly. I couldn’t believe it when I heard that some people didn’t auction off properties when the player who landed there didn’t want it. No wonder their games last so long.
I have actually played Monopoly in the past five years, but I demanded we play by every actual rule, and it wasn't that bad. When we got to the last two people standing that is when the game feel apart in a heap of rubbish, but leading up to that moment, it was actually a lot of fun!
