    I flew from Toronto to Vancouver. Wintery in Toronto but nice and warm and sunny in Vancouver. Flew with Air Canada on an L1011 TriStar. Its a pity this channel wasn't around then. 😊

    • @sla31
      @sla31  20 днів тому +2

      Yeah, what the real pity is, is that camera tech wasn't advanced enough yet. Because I was flying on those planes back then, but I would've had to carry around a 15 pound shoulder mounted VHS recorder haha.

    Turboprops will always hold a place in my heart, I never did manage to ride on a Beechcraft 1900 though before the big switch over to regional jets in the late 90's so I am bit jealous of you. Great flight!

      @sla31  20 днів тому +1

      Well the good news is your chances aren't gone yet. You can still fly them in several places around the world if you ever find yourself near them. If not though, you always know you're welcome to come back and fly this one with me anytime!

    That sound taxiing and taking off takes me right back.
    My Grandma used to take me to an island called Alderney in the Channel Islands here in the UK.
    And the only plane that flew there, was a Britten-Norman Trislander... And it was Amazing!! Sadly, I don't think there's anyone that flies them anymore 😢
    What an absolutely stunning place this is!!
    Thank you sincerely, again, for everything you do my friend 🛫🌅🌄🛬

      I think the Trislander is still in service. Certainly its little brother - the Islander is in Scotland. I luv the Islander.

      No, I've been home since the 11th. Just finished my first channel trip after that vacation too. I flew to Toronto to fly Omni Air International to San Francisco.

    I love the 1900D. Used to fly them on Great Lakes airline in the 90s. Loved the low flights and great views of the landscape. Even flew once from Milwaukee to Cincinnati, A non-rev pax had to be removed due to weight limits. Quite fun. Glad you got to fly one of the few still around in North America.

      @sla31  13 днів тому

      Ah I miss seeing those Great Lakes 1900's everywhere. Living where I do, they were literally everywhere haha. They had all the EAS contracts around here back then, so they're all you'd see at all the smaller airports haha.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  20 днів тому

      I remember them well. They sued to fly into JLN and when I was in college in Salina, Kansas they also had the EAS service there too. Never got to fly on them when they were still around though.

  • @320k
    @320k 21 день тому +2

    For a second I thought this was a Saab 340, but it doesn't look like they're around much anymore. Their roof wasn't so high. Gotta love those turbprop sounds, too.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  20 днів тому +1

      They do fly a bunch of Saab's too. Some in their own colors, and some in WestJet Encore colors. The first plane at the end when I was getting off the plane was one of their Saab 340's. But ultimately you are correct here. This was a Beech 1900D. I was originally supposed to fly on three Saab 340 to Powell River instead of Victoria, but a runway closure at Powell River forced me to change my plans and that's how I ended up on the 1900 instead.

    wow, this is also a flight that I want to try as well! The scenery in the PNW is absolutely breathtaking. Btw, did you get a chance to go anywhere outside of the airport and is it worth venturing out? I am thinking about taking a roundtrip from YVR to YYJ but not sure whether I should schedule some time to explore the area before heading back to YVR on the same day.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  20 днів тому +1

      So I've never gotten out to explore Victoria Island, but in general the PNW is one of my all time favorite places to explore and I absolutely love places like Friday Harbor and Orcas Island. So given that Victoria is going to be similar to those, I'd say it's worth spending time outside of the airport on that alone. One of my absolute favorite things to do is take Orca watching cruses from Seattle or Friday Harbor, and I think you can do that on Victoria too.

    Ok...I have always wondered and I am sorry if this question has already been asked before...what do you use as an equipment to make your camera stay so still (especially during long haul flights)

    • @sla31
      @sla31  20 днів тому

      I film most of what you see on here with the use of any type of mount or gimbal. Even on long flights, they are pretty much all filmed by hand. If you can figure out how to clone my arms and sell them, you're more than welcome to one haha. Otherwise they're limited edition and only 2 exist.

  • @theresacaron4238

    Great to see they skipped the French announcements which are not required in that part of the country anyway, no one speaks it.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  20 днів тому

      Next time I'll ask the pilots to do it again in French.. Peux-tu le dire en français. For some reason I took French in high school instead of Spanish, even though Spanish would've been infinitely more useful where I live haha.

  • @rixxy9204
    @rixxy9204 20 днів тому +1

    I don't like the 1900. It's powerful and fast but has a lot of weight. It's had a lot of accidents and was originally designed in the 80's... a lot of crappy small airlines use it.
    I do love turboprops though, and flying closer to the ground is also so much nicer than in bigger planes (unless there's weather!).

    • @sla31
      @sla31  20 днів тому

      I have a love hate relationship with the 1900. It's pretty much the only thing that flew into all of the airports around me when I was little. So I grew up with them, and I think they look cool. I think pilots generally like to fly them but I've also heard a lot of them say it's the plane only its mother could love haha. It's a fun plane to fly from a different time at this point. Thanks for watching!
