  • This video is edited on Mac Studio. Shot on Fujifilm X-T3.
I have been using my Mac Mini (Intel model) for 3 years, and I decided to upgrade to the new Mac Studio for better performance in 4K video editing.
I bought the basic model of the Max Studio, featuring the M1 Max processor with 24 -core GPU, 32GB RAM, and 512GB SSD.
For the past year, I have been using the M1 MacBook Air and Mac Mini (Intel model with eGPU) for my UA-cam video edits. I'm really surprised the M1 chip is capable to edit 4K videos on Premiere. But it will start to lag when I apply color grading, speed ramping, warp stabilizer, and more... The same applies to my Mac Mini (Intel model) with eGPU (Radeon Pro 5700XT).
So I edited this unboxing video on the Mac Studio. Using Premiere Pro, I work with 4K 10 bit 4:2:0 footage (shot on Fujifilm X-T3). For the effects, I use FilmConvert Nitrate, speed ramping and warp stabilizer effects. There's still a bit of lag when I playback the timeline in full resolution, but it's smoother than my Mac Mini with eGPU.
For exporting this unboxing video, it took the Mac Studio 1min 30 seconds to export Apple ProRes 422 HQ, the exported video has a file size of 4.8GB.

I appreciate you sharing your experience in the description! Quick question, Chris.
Are you importing h265 .mov files into Premiere? Or did you convert them beforehand?
If not, would you consider trying to convert them to Apple ProRes with Adobe Media Encoder and sharing your results?
I'm curious how much better the experience would be using ProRes footage in comparison. I'd love to have full resolution playback for once.

I import the H.265 files directly into Premiere. Will try to work on ProRes files and see the difference, I also much prefer to have full resolution for playback on the timeline

what's spec for your Mac Studio? my IMac 2019 shutdown quite frequently during editing in final cut pro, till now I cannot find the reason, upgrading my Mac maybe the only solution.

I got the base model, and it can handle my 4K 60fps video edits really well. There's no need to convert to ProRes and I can just edit straight with the H.265 MOV files on Premiere Pro. But if you are doing a lot of color grading and applying multiple effects (noise reduction, stabilizer etc.) on the footages, it's safer to upgrade the RAM to 64GB.
