That's crazy you can actually see a part of Ambarino in RDR1, same spot where the prologue takes place in RDR2 and also the same area where John kills Micah in the epilogue.
That's not where the prologue or Micah's death occurs. Those locations are much further north in game. The location in the video is much closer to Owanjila
Yeah, the line where collision ends by northern latitude is somewhere about Riggs Station in RDR2. Closest Ambarino border is about as close as Mexican lands from that point, if you look straight from south to north.

This makes me think that instead of creating the map for RDR2 from scratch with the new locations first, that R* initially instead started by porting the original map over and worked their way north east. I originally thought they might've started with the new locations first and finished New Austin last considering it's only explorable in the epilogue and all they really had to do was port over the old map but this makes me thing they actually started here and changed the terrain into whay we now know was Big Valley
I always thought that the place where you modify your character online was in Hennigan's Stead, but I never imagined that it was off the map all this time 😯 :0
They did a pretty good job adapting whatever mess of terrain they had in the edge of the map in RDR1 and making it into a coherent map in 2. Wish the PC port would bring some kind of references or updates to the map from 2, but likely it'll be a 60 fps patch for 50 bucks like PS5 version was, plus, they're all working on GTA 6 so unlikely they have the time to update 1.
This is why an RDR1 remake to hold us over to GTA6 wouldve made the most sense. Not only would people then be able to experience Red Dead on the 9th gen, but us PC folks would also be able to without emulating. But on top of that, they also couldve had portions of the RDR2 map in the distance to keep the lore consistent. Maybe have the Montana River be flooded from a storm or something in-universe to make a reason why John cant go back across or something.
I like that there are some vague resemblance here and there. At 4:33 you can see the shape of the dskota river and the seats of new hanover and you can see the grizzlies up north.
I never noticed the snowy mountains over that way. I also love how there is a big valley there too, makes it clear why they made that part of the map like it is in RDR2.
I remember in online near the top of the map at the train tunnel, I think you either jumped or shot your horse while riding into the left beam of the tunnel to shoot on the mountain, then there was a tree you could jump through and walk thhrough the snow until falling through the map
