People confuse the Jormungandr we met from 2018 to be stuck in a timeloop but no, the serpent that gets sent back in time during Ragnarok is a young one which Atreus and Angrboda created by putting the soul of a giant to a serpent

@@luloyantolo2691 He's still in Midgard, which is why at the beginning of the video you hear Freya saying that there are still signs of the World Serpent despite him vanishing at Ragnarok.
That theory is correct. But in GoW 2018, Mimir says that somebody called the World Serpent when we hear the horn. That horn was Heimdall's which was blown by Kratos, and was heard across Time and Space. So the lore also seems to imply that it's actually the 2018 World Serpent which answered the horn and went to fought Thor at Ragnarok i.e. an infinite time loop.
I love how angraboda is secretive of ironwood but the world serpent here just casually talks for all of Midgard to hear😂

@@alc4528 He probably has tried but failed because like with most giant related things it’s difficult and not much is known of it. Which is why he had the smartest man in all the realms learn it and even he struggles with it as we saw when he spoke to him in the first game
If you would notice the serpent's beard, the one that they met on midgard is different from the one fighting on asgard. So basically the one in midgard is actually the old one while the one fighting on asgard is the young one. That is why jormungandr did not want to tell atreus about ironwood since he knows all about it.
So what happend to the other one?

The way Thor knocked the world serpent back in time and how he's voice echoed in the sky while flying towards kratos still give me goosebumps, that some real god stuff right there.

I love how they combined the original myth with a (for lack of better words) more realistic depiction of the events. Like how in the myth Fenrir and the world serpent are both Loki's biological sons. Whereas here it's more of a technicality, since Fenrir was his pet and he created the world serpent with a giant soul. It is as if later telling of the myth changed as the story was retold or in the theme of the game nothing was set in stone to despite the prophecy.

I really like how they play with the concepts of fate and prophecy in the game. There are so many situations where one could say "technically" that's true.
@@dannybowers4133 there's no plot hole, the Jormy we meet in midgard is the older one, he just didnt join the Ragnarok battle. The younger jormy did, and thats the one that got sent back in time. Older version is still in midgard probably

To those who might be sad that Jormungandr is trapped in a time loop, fear not! The Jormungandr that we saw fighting Thor is NOT the same Jormungandr from the 2018 game! Earlier in the game, Atreus and Angrboda placed a Giant's soul in a snake. That snake eventually grew big enough to became the Jormungandr that we see fighting Thor in this video!
You can tell that this is the younger version of Jormungandr because it's beard is not big/fully grown out! Therefore, Jormungandr is not eternally trapped in a time loop, this is just some weird paradox thing, I think.
Edit: For those wondering how young Jormungandr was able to grow so fast in the span of days(?), it probably has something to do with the snake's body having been normal and mortal and then having a Giant's soul placed in it. Maybe the body had to grow rapidly to better accommodate the new size of the soul or something, I don't know, let's just say Giant magic had something to do with it and leave it at that.

That snake is the one currently battling Thor in Ragnarok, he gets sent back in time and later meets a younger version of Atreus and Kratos. So, basically, during Rangarok there are two World Serpents: one, the Old, is sleeping in the ice, and other, again him but younger, is fighting with Thor. And after ice will has gone, the Old Serpent will awake and live further c:

@@Wownamewow1 not really, more like a straight linear line. Like he wakes up, grow big, fight thor, go to past, meet kratos and atreus, aid in fighting baldur, told atreus about iron wood, that's it. And then he get to live his life, altough him telling atreus about iron wood, does seem to create a paradox, making infinite copies of himself.

I don’t know the full story of the game yet, but I’m happy to see that Kratos and Atreus get to be in their own separate journeys, and it looks like Sindri gets a bigger role.

Notice when Mimir notes that the Jormungandr fighting Thor during the war ‘did not follow them from Midgard’. This means it’s the serpent Atreus awoke. Another detail is that the younger Jormungandr lacks the beard of moss that his present self has.
Makes you wonder what kind of paradox would occur if the two were to meet.

So Young World Serpent gets sent to the Past. Current Aged World Serpent already has lived to this day, and thus, has two factors to avoid the Paradox. CAWS timewise stays far away from YWS by STAYING AHEAD of YWS's "future" that we call "Present Day". CAWS also doesn't interfere with Ragnarok by fighting Thor and meeting YWS, causing a Paradox in the process. So essentially the two rules he's obeying to avoid a Time Paradox are literally Time and Place.
CAWS knows YWS's future, because they're one and the same, and it's his own experience of being flung to the Past that makes him aware of the situation. The only future that CAWS doesn't know about, is his own. As lives out his own Future through a Past years if not centuries before his own birth. What's next for him after this and he's clear of there being any paradoxical risk? Who knows?
For clarification no there are two Jormungandrs. The one we see during the Ragnarok siege was the snake Atreus had imbued with a Giant soul in Ironwood.

Say your young self gets born, then your young self gets sent back in time. If your young self survived, that'd mean your old self is somewhere in time alongside your newly born self.
This basically means the old jormungandr is just sleeping in the lake of nine, while the young one gets sent back in time to become the one we know and love.

It's like you get born, sent back into time to become the old you that exists now. The old you would remain while the young one gets born again, sent back in time, and there we go

For everyone confused af I’m gonna make it simple to understand lol.
The world serpents ORIGIN in this game is when Loki finds him in Angrbodas grandmothers house. Small and soulless. He imparts a giants soul into him from the giant marbles and gives birth to the world serpent.
This world serpent grows huge FAST. This serpent is the one we see at raganarok. Notice how much less beard, moss and scars he has?
During ragnarok Thor hits him and send him BACK in time. Like way way back. Long before GoW 2018.
From that point forward he ages until we meet him in 2018. He’s already lived Ragnarok but got sent back years before 2018 and has grown old now. So the snake we see at raganarok is just a younger version of the 2018 serpent, who is the serpent frozen in Midgard in ragnarok.
This is also why he’s so vague with Loki. He knows the future to a degree but doesn’t want to change or encourage any decisions. Just let nature run it’s course so to speak.
So basically 2018 old snake is literally just chilling in the ice because his younger self is already fighting at ragnarok.

Interesting parallel that Fenrir and Jormungadr are both Loki's children in norse myth and in the game they both came to be because of giant magic by of atreus

To those confused, Jormungandr is not stuck in a time loop. The snake wee see in iron wood, the one that loki and angrboda give the giant soul to, is the Jormungandr that eventually grows big enough and fights thor ( the young Jormungandr), then gets sent back in time. The Jormungandr sent back in time is the one we see in Midgard, and it's living out the rest of its life there, The Jormungandr from Midgard ( the older Jormungandr) told atreus about ironwood so that he could come into existence.

Wish he made more of an appearance in this game, honestly thought that was going to be the case given Ragnarok IS his main story. Like, I thought being a Giant and everything he would learn some sort of other realm's magic and join everyone in the house on the World Tree as either a spirit or even human-like.

@@beckayshaw6083 Honestly, I wouldn't have mind seeing our giant snake friend on the realm tree. He's supposed to be big enough to cover the world, which I imagine means Midgard at the least, so it stands to reason that he could coil himself across the entirety of the realm tree. For comedic reasons you could even have him peak through the windows of the house, only for his eyes to block out the entire view. As for the temple, he clearly has his magical teleportation powers like the dwarfs, so he'd just have to cuddle up against that temple as Kratos gave his war speech. Though, I still would've loved to see a humanoid version of the serpent, maybe even give him a soft and timid voice given how much he bellowed in the previous game.
Right? I get they had a lot of characters and storylines to juggle, but I wish we had even gotten a moment where Atreus realizes he "birthed" Jormungandr. Maybe he did, but we never got to see him properly react. Jormungandr was also such a big part of 2018, so I wish he was given a bit more attention this time around

@Kaniela Barcai @Adam Kyjak There's also a combat variation of Lullaby of the Giants. It's called Stone Mason and is absolutely magnificent. It plays during the elevator fight in God of War 2018, and also during one of the Muspelheim trials.
The snake that becomes the world serpent (the one that Atreus revived with the giant soul) is the one that got sent back in time. The one that we know from the first game and the one we see speaking to Atreus in Ragnarok is still chilling in the lake in Midgard.
And even then, the young Jormungandr that got sent back in time, fought Thor again to a stalemate, and neither came out as a victor.
From Thor's point of view, this is the second time he fought Jormungandr

In the past, Jormungand had an advantage, because now he has fought Thor a second time - while he fights first - so the result is a stalemate.

Fun fact: Jormungandr was originally a normal snake but Atreus put the soul of a giant named Jormungandr into the Snake. Hence why he is a giant snake lol

@@SempreQueVoceLerOsComentarium Yes and no, I believe it’s stated that the Jotunn are capable of altering their size, and in Jotunheim they tend to remain giant sized, but when trying to lay low, they take on a much more human height, much like Faye when she stayed behind. I mean we have the stonemason's son, who himself would’ve had to have been giant when his father struck him in a fit of anger, otherwise he should’ve been crushed flat, but when he then arrives at Asgard, no alarms are immediately raised because he looks like an ordinary human. Atreus was under the impression that the Jotunn weren’t all the size of mountains, however that was false, it’s that not all Jotunn choose to be the size of a mountain, and can be smaller, like how Faye chose to be small in order to hide and protect the gateway to Jotunheim, however a Jotunn like Jormungandr can’t be smaller, as his body does not allow for that being as it isn’t a Jotunn body, it’s the body of a snake that was transformed after having the soul of a Jotunn be placed into it, which likely means that Jormungandr cannot use magic.
Imagine bonking someone so hard with a weapon so powerful that just yeets them back in time.

Jormungandr was "born" when Atreus put the a Giant into Snake's body , Angrboda mentioned that it "is growing al lot" , this Jormungandr only met Atreus once , this was the one from Jöttunheim, and got sent back to midgard, and caused the reckoning in the Lake of Nine , before even Kratos got here.

Makes me wonder, depending how far Jormungandr got sent back in time did he ever met the giant that his soul originaly belonged to?
He was sent to Midgard where he would spend his time . Freya said that he just appeared in midgard one day and never left so it is assumed at that point that the giants have already destroyed jotunheim's portal and i think Jormungandr is too big to fit into the portal if it wasn't and i doubt the giant who's soul is in Jormungandr ever left jotunheim since the aesir gods hate giants and were ordered to kill them ( or at least thor was).

fun fact: In Norse mythology, jormangandr (pardon my spelling) is actually the biological son of Loki (Atreus) and Angriboda and its nice how they sort of interpreted this through the scene of Atreus and Angriboda both putting the soul of the giant into the snake.
I remembered a line from the movie Rush Hour 2 where Chris Tucker told Jackie Chan: "I'll slap you so hard you'll go back to the Ming Dynasty".
Never thought I'd remember that line from a completely different scenario 😂.

Also, let’s not forget that many of big gods in Norse mythology were born out of a sentient giant cow….. now THAT is weird.
Honestly, the game had an interesting story, but it was lame in many ways.
Making Loki a child takes away 80% of original lore, because in the OG lore he is a hyper sexual male version of female fatale (the man that sleeps around and backstabs people/others).
Even MCU Loki is more accurate to source material (Bi + selfcest) than this GoW Loki-erasure.
I just realized that this legend recorded the entire gameplay and released it online, then cut different parts of it up for scene compilations like these.

It's not a loop guys, but it is infinite Jormungandrs and timelines. The old Jormungandr tells Loki to go to Ironwood to create him, because if he didn't tell him, he wouldn't exist ( time paradox). By telling him to create him, there exist 2 Jormungandrs in a period of time between the creation of the young one and it being sent back in time: The old Jormungandr who tells you to create him ( the one in Midgard with a beard) and the young one (without a beard) who fights thor while the old one is in midgard . After the young one gets sent back in time, the old Jormungandr is still there chilling, only he remains, BUT the young jormungandr who gets sent back in time, grows old to eventually encounter Kratos and Loki, recognizing them and Loki as his creator. He then later on in ragnarok tells him to create him,(cause otherwise he wouldn't exist) but by telling him to create him, he also creates a new Jormungandr, that goes on to be sent back in time and do the exact same thing. It's not a loop, just infinite Jormungandrs and infinite timelines. Either that, or an infinitely looping single timeline, which Jormungandr is not "stuck in", it's just that his life and moment in time wasn't as linear as other's

Kratos is exhilarated from time travel because he’s never experienced it from a perspective. He may have went back in time himself, but seeing it from a point of view, he seemed to have deemed it wrongful. Kratos was born out of betrayal and vengeance, he’s become a very gentle person. It’s obvious.

The younger Jormungandr was thrown back in time. That's it. The snake is now old & in the ice.

This comment is for those who thought there's going to be a significant time loop thingy with Jorm, Thor and that frozen lighting bolt in whatever realm.
So Jormugandr literally lives both in past, present and future, always having infinite copies of him, going from past to the present and then to the future which being alive and part of the family.
Technically there are infinite Jormungandrs. There are 2 at the period of time between his creation and him getring sent back in time. The old one in midgard, who was already sent back, and the young one who still hasn't been sent back in time. The old one is just chilling
I'm playing GoW right now (2018 one) and I just had to see this after finding the tapestry of Thor getting bit (or will get bit) by the world serpent.
Amazing how things come full circle and questions aren't left unanswered.

Yeah, the two snakes are the same. They changed a lot of lore and I think the explanation is that Kratos changed the prophecy of when Ragnarok was suppose to happen. Atreus hasn't had any kids yet, so obviously Fenrir and Jormungandr can't be his children.
I was kinda expecting Atreus to cough up the serpent out of his body, but remember not all children of gods are created the natural way take Athena and Hephaestus for example Athena was created in Zeus head, Hephaestus was made by hera on her own

In this universe ragnarok got early because kratos interferes their prohecy for that fenrir and jormun snake are his friend and hela doesnt born or exist yet because atreus is still a teenager

Its because of the changes kratos a atreus made when they fight and kill baldur, he was supose to die WAY later than that, because of that atreus met a different version of the snake that end up being the giant thanks to the soul.

Jorm isn't in a time loop either like many people think.
I think the idea is that Jorm didn't get sent to Jotunheim like Mimir thought, he was sent back in time to Midguard. They state in the previous game that Jorm just suddenly appeared in Midguard one day. This is why. It would also explain his hatred for Thor, he lost a fight and was sent back to a time where said fight hadn't happened yet.
The Jorm Atreus gave life to grew up to fight Thor and was sent back in time to live his life in Midguard. His personal timeline just overlaps.

This is absolutely correct, yes. To put it simply, the timeline goes like this: in Ironwood, Atreus puts the giant's soul into the snake. It grows rapidly into Jormungandr and fights in Asgard during Ragnarok. Thor hits it so hard it goes back in time, waaaay back. It lives on the Lake of Nine until it meets Kratos and Atreus, helping them through the events of God of War 2018. And then it just remains in Midgard permanently after that, knowing that its younger version will be the one fighting in Midgard. There's no loop coming, from Jormungandr's perspective it's a straight line with no end in sight.

There are 2 joemungandrs at this point in time, the young one, who loki creates in ragnarok to fight thor later, and the old one, who was already sent back in time. The old Jormungandr is the one who was already sent back in time, and he's just living the rest of his days in midgard, he's not in a time loop. The yiung Jormungandr gets sent back in time so the old Jormungandr can exist.
