Aira and Okarun both say "Henshin" before they transform. The Iconic transformation phrase of Kamen Rider. Also may be a coincedence what is sadly called a "All out" by English fans, in the subs is called "Full throttle" Drive and Mach's main finisher from Kamen Rider Drive.
@CnDdDoKn0wNam3 imo the comparison there feels kinda superficial. Any similarity between the two stops at both having ghosts and sci-fi stuff, plus maybe a bit of macguffin hunting? Thematically and storywise they’re entirely different stories
The show got me right at the opening. The trailer caught me because of Mayumi Tanaka, I love her voice works, and then I played the first episode. "Wait, those silhouettes look just like the Ultraman opening" Then comes the freeze frame using Momo's earring to make the Ultraman eye. "Oh, this is gonna be good."
I've always loved dandadan for it references. When the anime was released, I was so shocked by the opening being so similar to older Ultraman openings 😂
The guitar music that plays in the scene where Momo and Okarun pass each other in episode 5 is used in episode 25 of KAIKI DAISAKUSEN. KAIKI DAISAKUSEN is a masterpiece of TOKUSATSU.
These are the kinds of videos that anime youtube needs more of. Short, to the point, and filled with tons of interesting information. Great video man, keep up the good work!
Facts, all of anime UA-cam is just a different flavour of "Hey guys look how much I agree with you now give me my likes and subscribe" or hood dubs or people trying to critique anime on a painfully surface level
Not a reference to Tokusatsu, but one cameo that is being over looked is a cameo of Video Girl Ai character, Moeimi Takawara. She can be seen as one of Momo’s classmates, and she totally stands out from everyone else!
Great video man. Haven't seen this one yet but those references are awesome. The animation and character designs of the anime remind me a lot of Devilman crybaby with a style that's a bit more detailed
When I was a kid, I used to watch reruns of Ultraman. I remember the episode about Dada being special. This video reminded me of the TV drama "TRICK" starring Hiroshi Abe, which I loved as a kid. It was a buddy story about a female protagonist with fake psychic powers and a professor with glasses who doesn't believe in the paranormal and has a complex about the size of his banana. It may have had some influence.
Peak + peak. Love both toku and ddd! Hey Blu, weird question but is it your voice or an AI reading? New to the channel and its hard nowadays to pinpoint is it natural voice or not 😅
It sounds to me like his regular voice. I can hear the echo of his room when listening to his VO with headphones. Although he does sound out-of-breath at the end of every sentence for some reason.
What a fun breakdown. I started DanDaDan the same time as everyone else and then after episode 7 by pure dumb luck took a break to check out Ultraseven, my first Ultra series. What lucky timing :D
I think the character's transformed state have Kamen Rider iconography, all be it not one-to-one, it can be interchangeable. Like Okarun's mouth mask and distinct eye shape, plus the red face marks that goes over the eyes. I didn't consider this idea cause Okarun was the only one, until Aira gets her transformation as well, with the same design aspect. A mouth mask, the distict eye shape, and the eye make-up around the eyes. Just like every Kamen Rider has big bug eyes, v fins/antennas/horns, tear markings, and forehead gems. And in addition, Okarun's exaggerated collar and Aira's hair can be considered interchangeable with Kamen Rider scarves. Momo's role also reminds me non-Rider superpowered characters in KR series like Misora in Build, Mio from Kiva, Mai in Gaim, and many more in this archetype, except Momo is a main character.
I feel like the general vibe of Dandadan, the mixture of aliens and spirits and monsters and weird urban legends is in and of itself very Ultra inspired, even without getting into the specifics. I saw someone highlight it as a unique blend of genres for a shounen and I was just like. It's not unique, it's Ultraman. Dandadan is like that because the Ultra Series is like that. And they're both great!
The empty space/alternate dimension where the protagonists fights flatwoods monster (the one with sumo moves) and alien serpo reminds me of Gavan's Makuu Space and Ultraman Nexus' Meta Field
I was watching the newsletter episode and I literally paused when I saw the shin godzilla reference in the anime as well as the baltan like design for the punching guy
I've read the manga and I just shout when I saw an enemy exactly like Gori from Spectreman holding a bat with the hero's helmet! Unfortunately, this is a extra chapter and the chance to be animated is pretty low.
I grew up in the US. In the mid/late-1960's and 1970's, Ultra Man was shown in the after-school, children's programming slot on weekdays by my local TV station. Given that, I immediately recognized its influence on Dandandan. Tokusatsu movies were often shown on US television, especially late at night or during the weekend afternoon slots. My guess is that they were inexpensive to broadcast and where used as filler programming at times of low viewership. We sometimes called it the "Lame-o horror-monster theater". I find myself more exited by Dandandan than my Son, who is the biggest anime watcher or the family. Then again, my childhood influences were more tokusatsu and his more anime. FWIW, Ultra-content, other than the 1966 UltraMan series, was virtually non-existent in the US until sometime in the 1990'a. There was apparently a bizarre legal dispute over the rights to showing any Ultra-series in the US. Sometime in the 1990's, DVDs started to became available here. For the most part, fans like me were unaware that various new shows of the Ultra universe had been developed and continually shown on Japanese TV.
This might be a far fetch, but.. In Kamen Rider, Takeshi Hongo has his limbs bound and immobilized by Shocker, who gives him his power which he ultimately uses to escape. In Dandadan, the Serpo's abduct Momo by bounding her limbs, where she discovers her powers, which she ultimately uses to escape. also, in the Space Globalists ark in the manga, Ultraman villains like Metron, Ragon, Zarab, and Takkong just straight up fucking appear in a panel.
If you’re a real Toku fan you should know about this stuff. If you’re not a real Toku fan then you should go wash some Toku and besides they ain’t gonna make a new power rangers season or show for god knows how long so might as well jump into super sentai then Kamen Rider then Ultraman
Another popular brainrot anime/manga, with a huge pile of random pop culture references. How unexpected! 10/10 Peak! Media literacy is dead, and with it originality.
This anime is far from a brainrot chief. Leave those sheets to meme and skibidi. This one actually has a lot of heart put into it especially when you read the manga.
...okay dude? Do you want to do some actual media criticism and talk about how Dandadan uses its references and inspirations? Or do you just want to invoke the idea of "dead media literacy" in order to imply that appreciating an artist's influences is bad, somehow? Like genuinely I'm not sure what you're trying to do with this comment, but I don't think you sound as smart as you think you do.

another nice nod. Turbo Granny's English voice actress is Barbara Goodson aka Rita Repulsa herself.
I was thinking she sounded like Rita, nice to know it’s actually her
An anime that's paying homage to Tokusatsu series of my childhood sign me up I'm watchin
It’s mad freaky with fanservices…
But I’m still staying for the Tokusatsu references
When I saw Serpo doing Ultraman Taro's hand signature. I was so glad that my favorite series was being referenced in that anime
I see Dandadan as a tribute to UltraQ, even maybe a spiritual successor since it does a lot of the same things but 2X better
Ngl, for me, Dandadan is kinda like Kamen Rider Ghost but just 10x better.
@@CnDdDoKn0wNam3 being better than Kamen Rider Ghost is not a high bar to pass
Not a spiritual successor just paying homeage to classics series.
@@CnDdDoKn0wNam3 yo thats not a high bar m guy

It reminds of Ultraman Max's opening the most
Chaotic fucking fun anime n manga
Always adore when there's a tribute , call back all things tokusatsu
dandadan is an artwork
The scar on Okarun's face, that's legit similar to Rider.
I'm so happy blunova watched/read Dandadan, I was thinking about this channel when reading the manga for the first time.

Same animation studio for both shows
@dynamicswami Nice, I figured that was the case
@@ShinGoji1987Official Also Devilman has a connection to Tokusatsu.
@@ondururagittandeska2004 Yeah the 70s anime and the live action film are very tokusatsu like

0:37 where is this tiga scene from?
I belive it's from a commercial spot for the new ultraman card game
That’s from a card commercial
What a fun breakdown. I started DanDaDan the same time as everyone else and then after episode 7 by pure dumb luck took a break to check out Ultraseven, my first Ultra series. What lucky timing :D
Momo's Teacher's attire are from SSSP ultraman team, and so as Ken's teacher (ultraseven)
The girl in the monster suit also reminds me of Zero One. Particularly the one from Ultraman Ginga S
Also, in Episode 2, when Okarun changes into his turbo form for the first time, a sound effect very similar to Ultraman's rising sound is played.
I still gotta get around to the anime but I love seeing the inspiration come through in the manga!
Dandadan is basically a love letter to pop culture.
Another banger video from da man himself
What it took from Tokusatsu? Many! That's why i like it so much when i read it
I catched up with the manga. It's fun.

aw hell yeah
In the latest episode Momo and Okarun's teachers are literally wearing the uniforms of the Science Patrol and Ultra Guard
I wonder...I don't know why but the towering monsters we see later for some reason make me feel like I'm watching Gantz.
How come you forgot okarun's Glass transformation simular to Seven?!

2:55 why is that so funny😂😂😂
What's the source video of Momo's dance segment about 7:00 into this video? I'd love to see the full length original. Thanks!
Rihanna - Where Have You Been
I've seen quite a number of people compare Dandadan to Ultra Q, which comes as no surprise, though it's definitely more it's own thing.
MMW, Tatsu will guest design an Ultraman kaiju within the next 10 years.
I don’t know or even think it was on purpose but I the design of the main alien bad guys remind me of the aliens in Godzilla vs monster zero
finally! YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
0:41 is that ultraseven?
It's Ultraman Tiga.
No i mean the guy with a messy hair at 0:41
The way okarun transforms into a cool persona is very similar to Kamenrider Den-O
Thought momotaros was a bit more.. Energetic? Genki? like ORE SANJOOOUU
1:54 - Dada yum
Momo's doing the kamen rider ichigo pose in the thumbnail!
AYYO 😩1:54
How is Ultraman not canon in here? There should at least be an SSSP lol
Dandadan feels like gravity falls and ultraman so I'm enjoying it easily
and in season 2 we get references with super robots
7:05 YOOOOOOOOOOOO
Me seeing Nessie in ep 8: RUUUUUN, IT'S GODZILLA!
Dandadan is dan da danmn nice
Have you thought about making a video covering Gamera Rebirth? I don’t think that anime gets the amount of attention it deserves.
The Manga is literally full of Tokusatsu reference. Most of the alien looks like they came straight out of Ultraman.
This might be a far fetch, but..
In Kamen Rider, Takeshi Hongo has his limbs bound and immobilized by Shocker, who gives him his power which he ultimately uses to escape.

watch new episode , Ayase Momo sensei wore SSSP (Science Special Search Party - Ultraman combat team uniform)
Hey blunova! Can you talk about Gekikou Kamen. It is a manga made for tokusatsu fans
All what left of toku is homages in popular anime
Dandadan is the weirdest toku I've ever seen. If it gets a live action adaptation I hope okarun and the others get kaijin style forms.
🤙👍💥
Hi Type
In the space globalists arc in the manga, you could also see alien guts and eleking as exosuits
EDIT: I just noticed there's an Alien Icarus one too
Ultraseven’s monsters and aliens are so unique. Even in Ultraman, Jack, Ace, and Taro. Can’t forget Leo too
I am waiting a Kamen Rider reference........
