It's funny how old the delusional character who thinks that they're just like the protagonist of their favorite stories but is actually just a regular crazy person is. The first example of fiction I can think of is Don Quijote. it's funny how similar Aira is to Don Quijote despite the gap in time and location.
I hated her in the first episode, but after it i relised she's the embodiment of "she's a little confused but she got the spirit "if anything she reminds me of panene i think her name was the pink bunny from chowder ,and i think her delusional ideas and perception is by far the funniest part about her character
As soon as I acknowledged she has HEAVY Main character syndrome, she had my attention I apologize for I did not know the game you were playing Ms. shiratori
I mean, I love that part of her appeal is really that she is extremely smart. Yeah, it might not look like it, but Aira is literally a prodigy in a lot of fronts: socially, artistically and strategically. She knows how to think on her feet and how to take the best choices even in this part of the story with the limited and wrong knowledge she has. Yeah, she is delusional and too ego driven at this point, but when those characteristics mellow a bit in future manga arcs.... God is she an amazing character. Aira is delusional until proven wrong, but the more the story goes on, more I see her as a really amazing individual capable of a lot, having an inflated sense of ego that, being trully honest, is rooted in the reality of how amazing she is.
This is a pretty minor manga spoiler, but she used to be a piano prodigy as well, winning first place in some piano competition when she was little, so yes she is smart and dumb at the same time.
(Also minor manga spoiler, but since op mention future manga, i assume they've read it) What's more interesting is that, she lost the first competition, but used that lost to work hard so she won the next one. It shows that she's not your typical spoiled prodigy, but a hard worker who deserves it @@NotSomeJustinWithoutAMoustache
@@rigel0207 I believe is a mixture of both (and don't worry, I'm catched up to 176) but in general I think there's a difference between being delusional and being dumb. She is clearly smart, she just... well, has her moments. Still, 10/10 character for me.
She plays as the people pleaser because she wants to be the girl her mother would be proud of. I think that she's a much more likeable character when she isn't cringing around and she's honest with others.
I think another aspect that make Aira work so well is her role as a "rival." Unlike most shows where the writer would bend over backwards to convince you that this character is actually a threat to the MC's romance, its obvious that Aira has no chance at getting with Ken, which not only subverts the overplayed trope, but adds to how funny she is given that no matter what kind of crazy ideas she cooks up, the audience knows they won't work.
I've seen a joke theory that the reason Aira's protag delusion manifested after the wash pan hit her on the head is because she has an untreated concussion
The color thing seems to be related to a character's power. Turbo Granny's power turns the environment red, Acro Silky is pink, Nessie is green and Gig Worker Mantis shrimp is yellow. Everytime they fight it's like a battle of their colors. I think in episode 1 the Serpos were blue.
@@serpentsir I love it because you can sometimes see fights for "domain dominance". Like in episode 1 when the cursed Okarun first appeared there was a fight between blue and red for which color would dominate the scene. Or like Nessie showed up and totally overrun Mantis Shrimp's yellow. Feels like a power struggle for who is strongest. I'm not sure if I make sense.
If you look at it better, in the anime, when the Serpo's UAP was destoyed, you can see their color is Grey. So I think, if it's alien Technology, the color is grey.
[SPOILERS FOR THE MANGA] . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The one thing I like most about Aira's character journey is how she ends up fitting in with the group as the plot goes on, and how neatly she falls into place in the middle of this insanity of a main cast. In the most recent chapters of the manga, we even get a scene of Momo wishing Aira was around, which really solidifies how even Momo grew to like her. Not to mention how effortlessly she cooperates witrh the group in action scenes. I think that Aira makes the delusional character trope fun because she doesn't do this to an unbearable level. She is delusional, but not to the point of being uncooperative when things get serious, and I think that level of respect goes both ways, with Momo and Okarun dropping their bickering and banter when they need to focus on more important problems
As much as i love Aira, lets not forget that she technically assulted Okarun in that one episode, and everyone just brushed over it. If a guy tried to force a girl to kiss him with the influence of such magazines it wouldnt be taken this lightly.
It’s actually kind of funny how later on she realize how she’s not really acting the way she used to act showing how yeah this was just basically a phase and façade and some animes don’t like to basically have a character lose there habits and just reduced them back to their season one counterpart but for akira she’s just kind of realizing yeah she doesn’t need to put up the façade and she can basically just be herself. She can still be self-centered seriously she’s an idiot, but she’s a lovable idiot
Cant wait for future seasons. Aira is seen to be one of the kindest characters in the manga. especially in those cool down moments in between major fights the found family feeling with the gang. she is my favourite.
Can we just talk about the fact that even if she's a popular girl, and try to keep that image, she doesn't mind showing her affection to okarun in public, who is supposed to be an otaku unpopular kid
i mostly like her because shes 100% a girl i used to hang out with in hs, only in this show shes getting her shit wrecked every time she opens her mouth and so i enjoy the slight revenge i get from it 🤣 You dont know how exhausting it is to be friends with a girl like this. Doesn't want to wrong, but does so many questionable things its hard to root for the idiot, but they do make you laugh 👌
i wish we were getting a 24 episode season because the dynamic between momo, okarun, aira, and jiji is amazing and unfortunately with only 12 episodes we wont get enough time to see it really blossom. i hope season 2 can extend the episode count even if only a little bit more than 12 cause the one thing this series does amazingly is the characters. aira and jiji come across as kind of annoying at first but when the story lets you get to know them they become some of the best characters in the series that you look forward to seeing every chapter/episode.
if you read the manga, you will realize that she is actually pretty good leader. She listen, she plan and mostly she tell them of when the others doesn't being serious in dangerous times.
My favorite moment so far was after the Nessie/Mantis Shrimp battle she had a perfect chance to throw Momo under the bus and come out unscathed and possibly more popular. However, she has a moment of reflection and actually stands up for Momo. I like it because she doesn't even know why she did it, considering how she sees Momo as "demon".
Thank you!! Once I finish programming it, I’ll release the playtest with a google form where people can put their thoughts on it and whether they’d like to help
Does Aira say the words to Acrobratic Silky at the end just to comfort her or she actually meant them since she knows the full backstory now? I think she meant them… and not just words.
I think it’s a mix of both-like she did say those words to comfort her but also she clearly meant it since she didn’t talk about Silky behind her back like she did to the boys she’d toy with
Aira was on the verge of tears; she might be a little bit mean, but she is definitely not heartless enough to lack compassion for a mom who lost her child, just as she lost her mom.
I think the scene with the Acro Silky is a large redeeming moment for Aira because she used her talent of telling someone what they want to hear but it was solely for the other person's benefit _and_ it was the truth. She got to use her talent in a healing way, not a hurtful one. It signaled to me that Aira is obviously very flawed just like the rest of the characters are, but at her heart she's a good person. I hope that remains true.
(spoilers) Aira actually becomes the leader at the invasion arc while okarun is on a coma she is the remaining person who has the yokai powers cuz jiji cant control evil eye yet
I'm beginning to think that Aira seems to exhibit similarities with Aqua from Konosuba. Like looking back at them both, they seem way too similar as both the comedic relief, boisterous personality and both being the idiots of their group
I’m convinced That None of them have a single Brain cell between them….like a Group of Cats! Maybe one or two are on the spectrum but yeah….Okarun remains my fav for his Good nature, and Momo remains my second Fav for being Hella Impulsive but also Deceptively Smart
