    We used to go with the children every year in the 90s. It was fantastic. The jousting was very entertaining. The serpent train round the edge. Tower of Terror was great. The falconry displays. Ghost train just inside on the left. Somethimng for everyone. It was a shame it closed.

    Another superb video Darren, and i can't wait to see the rest of the series.
    The irony that the new rollercoaster was refused planning permission because it was slightly higher than anything existing on the park, and would spoil the landscape, but when driving past on the M6 Motorway you could clearly see the existing rollercoaster anyway so what difference would it make! It was a local landmark.
    If only they had seen fit to dig down 10ft, the new coaster would've been ok to build!
    I'm guessing not enough money was passed over in brown envelopes so they refused it.
    Camelot was a brilliant day out but, it was badly managed and never changed with the times. Also, the opening hours were very restrictive so it was a mad dash around to try and get on every ride there when it was hugely expanded, rather than a relaxing & enjoyable day out.

    Another brilliant video Darren, its very very sad to see very little left. Unfortunately it takes ages to build things but can be gone in Seconds.
    As for the local council they won't allow houses to go onto the old park, they want a new park built, however I think that this will keep going on for the remainder and nothing will get sorted which is very upsetting, I look forward to part 2 of your visit!

    I have some early memories etched in my mind from visiting as a young kid maybe 1986 or 1987. It’s funny to think how basic things were in the UK back in the 80s… but also sad and kind of weird that somewhere once so busy and magical is now a pile of rubble. Thanks for making this video - I’m looking forward to seeing part 2.

    Another great video Darren, love the fade before and after images.
    I visited in 2008, mainly for Knightmare which was a great ride. I didn't think much of the rest of the park and I remember the food been terrible. It might have been more suited to families and not thrill seekers. The kind of place you'd visit once rather than the bigger parks were you'd go back again and again.

    Fantastic as always Darren. Many happy memories there. Think there was 1 ride like a cage. Had to make sure your pockets were zipped up as it hung you upside down. Usually could hear people's belongings or money dropping out of their pockets. As you will be aware many videos on youtube of people getting in and security giving chase, checking out the old rides and park. A friend of mine used to drive the back way, of the motorway services then drive behind the police station, to get on. Think this was a short cut....? Can't wait for the next instalment. Darren, great fades, especially as in colour, remarkable that you were able to get those old images lined up and teh research seems top notch, obviously befitting from your passion for amusement parks. The length is about right any longer and my brain would burst assimilating all the data and detailed explanations. 🤣
    A minor knee jerk observation. Do you write a script or just narrate / record 'on the fly'? I ask because there are a few repetitive phrases 'here you/we are' , 'you can see', 'right there' and a few others which are OK but I think for a documentary of this type a connected script rather than a series of specific observations for each picture may be more immersive. I'm probably not being very clear but in essence I think I'm suggesting that the narrative may be better if it led into the images and connected them rather than describing them individually as they came on screen. To put it another way tell the story using the images to demonstrate and enhance the tale rather than show the pictures and describe them. Please don't think I'm condemning what you have released - it still held my interest and gave a brilliant explanation of the site and its history. As I said knee jerk observation so others can condemn me.
    Oh and full marks for keeping Emley Moor in the title sequence 😂

    • @AdventureMe
      @AdventureMe  Рік тому

      Thanks Barrie. Not at all. I want these kind of comments, it's why I asked. I always record on the fly on site as it makes better discovery, besides its always hard to tell exactly what I will find. Im always aware of certain things and sometimes I have a basic plan. But once on site it's really hard to keep to it. So I never script anything as I never know what I'll find or do. And on this occasion I was very very pushed for time. Only having two hours to do the whole site. And racing against losing light. So I rushed around a little. Probably not paying attention too much to what I'm saying.

    • @barrieshepherd7694
      @barrieshepherd7694 Рік тому

      @@AdventureMe Perhaps then consider maintaining the 'face on camera' narration but mixing with some post production narration to form natural links for the no face on camera stuff. I know that may considerably add to the post production but heading that way moves the nature of the video to a documentary style rather than a diary / blog style. Anyway it's all good so I guess "Stay Calm and Carry" on is appropriate.
      BTW yes- small episodes not one big one hour event.

    The photo at 2:20 if I remember would have been taken from the top of a child-friendly, catterpillar coaster if it existed at the time, because this one and a log-flume was there in the exact corner, by mid to late 2000's, flume being possibly behind the photographer, jousting ring would have been to their right, at the other end, earlier in the 00's it was used more I guess, when I was 10 or under, but not used by 2010/11 when I went there in last year or two of secondary school, just sat there for lunch I guess.
    Cant exactly remember going on that ferris-wheel but it was there when I went around. The line on the slope behind it was for the dragon-ride, going round this hollow, with some wooden ramp/path leading past it's station, just behind the jousting ring and the swing ship that mum reminds me of, having had to accompany me on when very young. Though there was some stuff behind this hollow, past the dragon station, excalibur, ghost train and extra go-carts maybe?

Shame it isn’t there now as my 5 year old wants to go to a theme park that isn’t the pleasure beach again (as we live right near it) , but anything else is a fair drive away and she hates long journeys. 😅 I remember the first time I went as a small kid and the rain hammered down all day. I remember going on the caterpillar that day . Went on it just after the lockdowns at gullivers world. . They were only allowed a few people on it at once. The tower of terror was an amazing ride for a 10/11 year old, I remember falconry displays near the castle that surrounded the loop of the coaster. The live jousting tournaments were absolutely epic. Your photofades are brilliant. What a shame about the site. It's amazing how quickly nature takes over.

    Interesting series of videos 👍🏼😊. Never visited the park itself, but stayed at Park Hall hotel in 1991 for a course at work and my room overlooked the caterpillar rollercoaster. Very sad to see it in a derelict state now 🙁

    We went every year sometimes multiple times a year. We thought it had closed tho early 2000.
    If I had known it was still open until 2012 we would have for sure went.
    Was always a place I thought I would take my kids, alas not to be.
    I honestly wish it still survived or something similar comes back.

    Another major hit the park took was the introduction of the minimum wage, I worked there in 95 or 96 and ride staff was paid £2.50 an hour and I'm pretty sure concession staff got less, so in 1998 when the minimum wage came in everyone got as least a £0.70 an hour rise as most staff were students.

    Great video! Loved The Ultimate! Such a unique coaster, being so close to the ground made it feel fast. Such a shame LWV made the decision to scrap it, totally the wrong decision in my opinion, nothing to draw in the crowds now, can't see the park lasting for long, it will be another Camelot before we know it.

    I have very fond memories of this theme park, growing up as a kid it was my favourite and I remember going with my primary school as an end of school trip ❤️ so incredibly heartbreaking to see what little remains left 🏰

    Just a pity it wasn't a few miles further west.... It'd have been in west Lancashire council area not Chorley.. west lancs are far more focussed on long term plans and attracting investment.. Chorley just seem to like saying no . Exactly Why there's nothing built on it now .

    Used to go here every year on high school trips because it was only an hour drive from school. Great memories, Shame to see it close down but it was never that busy towards the end.
