The History Of The American Adventure Theme Park - Documentary
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 кві 2018
- The American Adventure Theme Park opened in Ilkeston, Derbyshire in 1987 and throughout this documentary we look back through the history of what was one of the most popular theme parks in the UK. We share the story of how a theme park that was once home to millions of visitors struggled to survive and now sits empty.
We look back through the development of the park in the early years thanks to home footage captured during peoples visits. I share my fond memories of the park and visit for one final time before the bulldozers come in. We share an insight into the future plans for the site, along with looking back on our favourite memories of The American Adventure Theme Park.
This documentary wouldn't of been possible without the fantastic home video footage captured by the many visitors to the park over the years. A full list of UA-cam channels with full length videos from The American Adventure can be found in the end credits of this documentary. This footage was used under the UA-cam fair use policy for educational purposes. I'd highly recommend visiting these channels to watch the full individual videos.

Shaun is a rare breed of regular UA-cam content creators. No click baits, just good content through the sheer love of doing it.
Thank you very much, plenty of exciting new videos similar to this to come in the near future!
OMG. My heart dropped when i seen this. My mum use to always take me here when i was young. I use to love the cowboy show. My mum is currently really ill so when i go to see her i will be sure to show her this as im sure it will brighten her day. Wow. Thankyou so much. This has made my day. Can always count on TPW to make me happy and take me back to the days i cherish most. Uk theme parks.
We're sorry to hear that she is ill but i hope the documentary cheers her up! Thanks for watching
Liam Fam I hop your mum gets better soon
Tell your mum I said get well soon
Liam Fam I hope your mum gets well soon.
Thanks guys
Amazing memories from when I went on school trips.Been a kid miss the theme park so much.
I loved American Adventure when I was a kid. Sad to see it go from seeing the items in auction to seeing the buildings demolished in pictures
Little Shaun is sooooo cuuttttteeeee!!!!!!
Well at least Shawn had a better childhood than what I did! :)
revivedfears Omg 😂😂😂😂
so cute. also nice hat
Thoroughly enjoyed this!
A documentary series on Theme Park Worldwide would be very well received!
Would be brilliant to see this series extended, with parks such as Camelot!
yes agree
Thank you, I plan to film more of these and improve the overall quality of them moving forward. It's something very new to me!
@@ThemeParkWorldwide You should ask a television channel to show these documentary programmes; it'd be nice to show them on TV.....
Thanks for this Shawn, I worked here from 1997 untill 1999 and it was the greatest time ever, you have brought back some great memories. Thank you so much!
I had many happy memories as a Kid here, even more made by the fact I lived so close (about 3 minutes away). I had to shed a tear or few while watching this. Thank you Sean for bringing back the memories!!!
Very proffessional Shawn, you've done a really good job of documenting what the park was like. I never visited it so it's great to have this video to see what it was all about
Am coming to this video a little late, 5 years late. Lol
I used to work on the Skycoaster ride here, 2001 till about 2005.
Also met my future wife here, she used to work in the shop next door to the Skycoaster.
Throughly enjoyed this walk down memory lane.
Thank you and i hope your still making You Tube videos, very well presented.
I was a maintenance Electrician at "The Park" for 10 years { 88-98 } This brings back many great memories.
So few channels provide this level of quality and originality. You sir are a credit to UA-cam and thank you for making such awesome content :)
Thank you very much
I like these. Television standard documentary!!
Thank you, this was the first one I've ever done but hope to improve them as they go on!
Done by Eddie the Eagle's unknown love child?
@@ThemeParkWorldwide Perhaps you could do the same for Pleasure Island Cleethorpes too soon?
I went there in the 80's when I was a kid. To me, it was a dream come true. I enjoyed this documentary, I remember telling my wife n kids about the place. Sadly though, it is now just a distant memory but a treasured one. Great work , mate. Very interesting film
I’ve never been to the American Adventure but seeing what became of this site and seeing what it once was made me sad. It reminds me of what happened here in Florida with Boardwalk and Baseball/ Circus World. You did a good job with this documentary.
What a brilliant video and nostalgia trip. Thanks!
One of my favourite UA-cam videos. Thanks Shawn
Very well done, enjoyed this and as others have said would like to see similar docs for other closed parks. Does make me feel sad though... the 80s and 90s were amazing theme park and amusement park times!
this is the only theme park documentary to make me cry
I worked at the Park in 1990 , I was a ride operator. I worked on the runway train log flume river rapids and a few of the smaller rides. This film brought back a lot of memories for me thanks
I was invited to visit the park with my primary school friends at the end of August or very beginning of September 1990 (probably a Saturday or Sunday) just before starting at secondary school. Unfortunately I turned it down at the last minute because I was anxious about starting at the new school, but everyone else did visit the park. I never got round to visiting the park before it closed. Maybe you were there at that time? Maybe it was Saturday 1st September of Sunday 2nd September 1990.
I may have only visited once but this place has a special place in my heart as it's the place I rode my first 'big' coaster...The Missile! Since then my love for coasters has grown and I look forward to a trip to a theme park when it comes up! To go back on what is now the wipeout is on my bucket list and I look forward fondly to the day I get to do this! 🎢
My god.. this place was so MAGICAL! It was my childhood, I miss it so much... Me and my brothers used to sneak in under the fence haha.
Congratulations on an absolutely brilliant piece of work. I made many trips to that park between the late 80's and 90's and you have really stirred up some great memories and got me feeling very nostalgic. Thank you and well bloody done 👏👏👏
I thoroughly enjoyed this! It bought back many childhood memories which I had totally forgotten. Thank you! 🙂
Why does Shawn keep walking off?
I was trying to find some open rides!
How it's done on uk documentary's gives the video depth and insite
@@ThemeParkWorldwide well.....
It's a UK documentary cliché. Don't ask
Absolutely loved this video. I remember going to the park myself as a child . Best part of this video was your home footage !! Your were born to entertain !!
I’ve been waiting for this ever since you announced it, I was never able to go here so this will help me get a good understanding of it, thanks for it Shawn!
Thank you for watching, I hope you understand much more about it now
Brings back great memories. Fantastic video TPW. Thanks for creating, wish they would redevelop a new park on the site!
Fantastic video, thanks Shawn/Alex. I have some great memories of this theme park. As always another brilliant production from you, Well done
Fantastic documentary. Thanks Shawn & Alex.
Thank you for this fantastic documentary, so many great childhood memories from this theme park.
Superb documentary. I loved American Adventure growing up, we had a tradition of starting and finishing each trip on the Buffalo Stampede. This video brought me right back to my childhood! Fantastic job, well done.
A bit of American Adventure nostalgia is just Magic well done Shawn for this magical video !
Absolutely amazing documentary. It's easy to tell so much effort went into this. Great job!
It sure did, thank you very much for watching!
Really enjoyed this, fantastic memories taking my children there. So sad it has ended. Well done Shawn, great job, love the enthusiastic commentry!!
I LOVED this video! What a fantastic idea for content. It brought back such nostalgia, what a terrible shame we lost this amazing park. I cannot wait for the Camelot episode as well as learning about the progression of parks we still have today. Brilliant, just brilliant!
I grew up in Bakewell and used to go frequently to the AA. I'll never forget the excitement of entering the park and seeing the missile across the water. I probably last visited in 2000. I moved to Suffolk 7 years ago and last weekend, went to Pleasurewood Hills for the first time (knowing nothing about it). It brought a tear of happiness to my eye when I realised that the missile was now there. I rode it again, for the first time in almost 25 years. What a thrill. Loved this video. Thanks for putting it together. Remember the park so well.
Hi Shawn , many thanks for bringing this video to light . My father who died 2 years ago , he and his team at council officers at matlock in Derbyshire . I went on the site , in the early days just before my dad Mr Brian Carter said to me that this site will be a pleasure area . And when the American Adventure was open , I was so proud of my dad . So thanks to you . All the Best . Simon Carter x
I’m 42 and for some reason this placed popped into my head yesterday, I remember going there as a kid with my nan and grandad but I never took my own kids as it was forgotten about, such a shame it’s now gone. Hope the developers kept the spirit of the park alive and named the roads/avenues after rides/places in the park. Great video 👍
This is excellent Shawn! Really professional! Definitely consider making more documentaries like this.
Thanks for making this, bought some great memories back from my many visits as a child, plus it was great to learn alot of backstory that I never knew
This was great! Well researched, it bought back a lot of childhood memories
Thanks very much!
Wow, very well put together video. I loved this! If I didn't know you were a youtuber I would think this is a proper tv program from the themed music to the old video clips, really good job on this one Shawn. Excited to see more!
Thank you very much!
Absolutely brilliant mate, very informative and well put together. Hope to see more videos like this.
This brings so many amazing memorys back it's a huge shame we have lost this park.
Please more of this content
Ahhhhhh yes an amazing video, I love the style and the volume of information within the video, and the home videos really offered an excellent insight, once a vlogger always a vlogger hey
What a documentary this is. You’ve done American Adventure proud with this!
Some superb footage and rare at that.
Thank you very much!
THIS WAS AMAZING!! I wouldn't be surprised if your channel was at 1mil by the end of the year- always so much effort and thought put into your content- you can tell you have a huge passion for theme parks!!
Thank you for the support, we're glad you enjoy our videos!
Can’t believe I’ve only just found this video after following you guys for ages ! It’s had me in tears I have so many memories here ❤
Thank you for this it’s made my day 😊
Thanks for watching!
Quality this, loved the old footage throughout!
Thanks for a incredibly detailed insight to the American adventure some great archive footage looking forward to some more keep it up!!
Thank you for watching
Great documentary. I remember it as Britannia Park and later as American Adventure. I even met Paul Daniels (the magician) there as he helped with the park design and special effects. It’s such a shame as it could have easily rivalled Alton Towers, if only they had been able to stick with the theming and invest in better marketing.
The nostalgia! Only live 10 minutes away used to walk there as a kid and sneak in through all the holes in the fences lol all houses built on there now. So many memories! especially with my grandparents who are no longer with us. That kid inside me is still heartbroken its closed. Great video mate 👍👍
Brilliant video thank you this brings back so many good memories 👍🏻
I have so many happy memories of The American Adventure. Thank you so much for this video, it made me cry! 😢 Keep up the great work 👍

Thank you!
This was a park I never got to visit and this video really caught the atmosphere of the place i'm upset I never got to visit. Your best work to date thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much
Great documentary Shawn , so many memories of taking our children there in the early nineties, so sad it’s gone
I remember coming here as a child with my brother and sister. Watching the old archive footage brings back old memories of such fun time spent as a child in theme parks such as this. Always such a shame when places of such meaning and fondness to people closes.
Fascinating video, I visited in the late 80s. Very well presented and put together documentary 👌
amazing video brought back a lot of memories will be missed
Really enjoyed watching this Shawn! I first started watching you when myself and my boyfriend had booked our trip to Florida back in 2016 for 2017 and were looking for tips and tricks to enhance our trip! Well thank goodness we did because we’ve finally found a UA-cam channel we can both enjoy when we sit down to eat! Thank you for everything you do and for bringing joy to so many. Keep it up!
We're glad you enjoy our videos, thanks for watching and for the lovely comment!

Shawn, this is a really good first documentary! It was well paced, informative and with an added personal touch. I never had the chance to visit the American Adventure, but it looked like a really good theme park given what had gone before it in the UK. Look forward to seeing other documentaries. Keep up the good work!
YES!! THANK YOU! I live down the road from American Adventure and even worked there! :D It's very much missed :(
It was a very special park, one that many of us loved
well done for putting this together - very fond memories of taking my three daughters there in the 90's
You should definitely do more of these style videos. I'd never heard of American adventure before watching your videos and it's great to get to know more about the park keep it up great stuff
This was fab ! Got to love a good theme park documentary made even better with the added home videos :)
Great Documentary, loved it. Was only looking at some pics this morning when I visited as a nipper. Awesome work
A new and more professional type of content! There is a long way to go but it's good you are trying new things.
Thanks for watching, I plan to film more of these and improve the overall production quality moving forward. It's something very new to me and something I want to do more of!
Great video guys! I only ever went to American Adventure once in the late 90's on a school trip, but it made a lasting impact on me with its amazing atmosphere and theming, and seeing this brought back some good memories!. Such a shame it closed :(

You already look so professional in 2005! Really impressive.
I love this shaun ! Being from derby myself i vividly remembrr this park as a child. I always wondered what happened to it and this video about it is long overdue! Thank you for doing it!
This is a fantastic, professional quality documentary! I was unaware of The American Experience theme park. Thanks for the effort.
Thank you, stay tuned for similar videos in the future
Amazing video pal I went there many times when I was young I really miss that park so much
Really enjoyed this video, hoping you might do more. Really interesting. Thanks.
I never got to visit this park and I must say it look like a very picturesque park and I found your video very interesting and can't wait to see more historic videos. Great job Shawn.
Thanks for the memories. This was my local park growing up. Also it was nice to meet you at CWOA yesterday. - it made Alice's day!
Shawn this is a beautiful representation of the park. I live in Codnor and this was my local park. You do great work and research for these videos. Thankyou
Haha that’s brilliant! Even loved explaining and talking about the rides back in 2005. Great video! Looks like a lot of work was put into it.
Great documentary, it brought back a memory of visiting the park in the mid 80s and seeing the stunt show. Can't believe it's gone and I will now not be able to take my 2 boys to see it.
Brilliant documentary it brings back a lot of good memories

I used to love that theme park I can remember going there as a child and even skipping school to go there fond memories
Fantastic look back.
Well done Shaun
This is outstanding! I was gripped, I'd love more of these 😃
Thanks Katie, I plan on filming more of these and also improving them moving forward
Theme Park Worldwide - Very exciting! Do you think Camelot would make it into the line up? I heard they're pretty tight with security? Either way, whatever pops up, I'm sure it'll be entirely thrilling 👍
Also added side note, totally got choked up at your old vlog footage, so cute and charming!
I loved this video!!! Please do more of these videos I love them! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Thanks for this excellent nostalgic trip back to a park that I like you visited on many many occasions. I have memories of going there as a teenager and later on taking my own children before it closed. I think at the time we were just waiting for it to reopen under new management which unfortunately it never did. Brilliant location in the heart of the country, easy to get to just off M1 and fantastic theming and shows the like of we still dont see any more in this country.
RIP American Adventure. Gone but not forgotten
Thank you very much for watching and sharing your thoughts on the park
