12 changes for the 2018, nice. Changes: Digital speedometer LED glow logo in front Newer grille Black bottom fog lights Black side mirrors Rear bumper reflector delete Rear diffuser added Rear bumper chrome bar delete Full LED taillights Red brake calipers Diamond seats with red stitching interior Paddle shifters now mounted to steering wheel
The only differences that I would prefer my 2016 RS 400 had are the new steering wheel and the tail lights, I personally believe the old sport bumper looked more aggressive in the front but the new rear end looks more aggressive. Nice review overall, first one I saw with a direct comparison!
I own a 2015 Q50S that I have put about 25,000 miles on. And I can say after driving it daily for a while now, that the transmission is genuinely terrible. It's just nowhere near befitting of a performance sedan that claims to have sporting intentions. In normal drive mode, the transmission will actually upshift when going around a slow corner, leaving you a gear too high when you are expecting to be able to punch it and accelerate. The 5 - 4 downshift can take over a second depending on how fast you're going and the mood the car is in. In addition, even with the traction control "off", the car will dramatically cut the power if the rear end starts to slide even a little. With the traction control on, if you are pulling out of a parking lot and catch one of the back tires going off the curb even a little bit, the car will cut the power to almost nothing for a full second. I've been in this situation, where there are other cars barreling towards you, and I've got the pedal all the way down, and the car is literally doing almost nothing. The same is true if you encounter even a small puddle. It's one of those things that makes you wonder, did anyone actually drive this car before it was approved for production? And forget about using your iPhone with the infotainment system. With your phone plugged in and connected via bluetooth, expect a full two second pause between the button depress to engage Siri and when the phone actually responds. It's like talking cell to cell with someone in Africa - the lag is maddening. Also, the lack of Apple Carplay at this price point is honestly ridiculous. On the positive side, the car is muscular and looks purposeful, and has tons of room for a car competing in this segment. It's also pretty neutral when sliding it around a corner, as long as you have the traction control as off as it will get (you can't ever really turn it completely off). I owned a 2014 G37S before this one, and I've got to say, that in my opinion the Q50S is a step back in every way other than it's looks. The G37S had wonderful steering and an engaging chassis and I really enjoyed driving it. The Q50S steering is numb and the traction control is so out of control that it prevents any fun whatsoever. It's also slower in a straight line, the stereo doesn't sound as good. It honestly feels like a prototype that Infiniti never got around to finishing before approving it for production.
Great comparison video! I test drove a 2017 RS 400 a couple months ago and loved every second of it. Definitely liking the changes made to the 2018 model and the changes come at a perfect time. This will most likely be the replacement for my 2016 Mazda6 GT next summer when my lease runs out. Just can't find a better contender for luxury and performance at that price point.
Torque Junkies I've already been scanning local dealers and there's about 15 2018 Red Sports within a 30 minute radius of me. I like that they're special but not hard to find. Will make getting a good price an easier process when the time comes. Also like that I can still get one without the Direct Adaptive Steering too as it's not something I'm sold on yet. I want a full steering column that relies on my inputs, not a computers. Haha
Torque Junkies I bet it would! But I'm ok with the automatic since it seems to be very responsive. Plus that will make it easier to drive for me day to day. I'll have my Mazdaspeed3 to keep me happy when I need to get some manual gearbox action. Lol
Yep. Gotta love that Infiniti invested a couple bucks in 90's riceboy garbage that you could probably pick up on eBay with free shipping. Certainly sports sedan shoppers aren't looking for things like better handling, braking, acceleration, reliability, competitive pricing, etc. Nope. They've effectively left it untouched minus a few styling changes that weren't needed to make the lazy, classless Democrat troglodyte pot heads happy. Make sure you collect that government check for your food, shelter, clothing and medical, so you can use your paycheck (thanks, equal opportunity!) to buy your new Infinity.
Nice comparison. It's because of your review of the newest one that my honey is picking one up. She likes it mean and tougher looking and you distinguished the difference wonderfully.
Asid Mohammad I’m a future q50 owner and I would go for 3.0t engine at all cost even if it’s 5 k more u won’t regret it latter because it’s easy to get 500+whp not crank but whp with the 3.0t . Now Na is gonna cost you 8k-10k to get turbo or supercharger to get 500whp . At the end Na will cost you more down the line to mod than 3.0t and it’s way more fuel efficient than 3.7
This is the best comparison with the "last" gen. I have a 2017 and was wanting to see all the changes they made and you nailed it. I was surprised by the lit emblem and different gauge cluster! But does it now have A/C seats? Probably not...
The 2018 non-sport Q50 front end now actually looks decent. I hated the non-sport Q50 from 2014~2017 simply because it made the car look too 'bubbly'. The Q50 Sport however has the looks down completely on my end. The 2018 diffuser is great; I wish it was blacked out however. The front end change is not bad, but the blacked-out front splitter is tasteful. The only thing I don't like on the 2018 is the new steering wheel paddle shifter. Paddle shifters on a serious performance car should ALWAYS be ON THE COLUMN, not the STEERING WHEEL. When aggressively driving, you cannot always get to the paddles if they're wheel mounted. Why make this stupid change?
Nice review. I have a loaded Obsidian Black '16 with the motorsport exhaust, and chrome grill frame painted body color, grill is still stock gunmetal that matches the wheels, love the car. The '18 interior is nicer, like the steering wheel, but prefer the larger column mounted pedals. Mid-cycle refresh is not enough for me to trade/buy, car is already great looking, the next new body model will be "exotic". I came from a G37 IPL, before that a Jag and Beemers, Infiniti is becoming a serious "player".....
Torque Junkies same bro! I can't afford a red sport but if it's going to be a q50 it needs to be an S, with the wood trim because those modes come with all the tech. The aluminum trim models are more "base." I'll make it happen bro
The concept car is actually called the EAU ROUGE(oh rooj) Concept, homie. Named after the famous corner at the Spa race circuit in Belgium. Now you know!
Drew Livinhislife that's a great idea! Yes I will do that! I have 3 weeks scheduled right now for other cars but after that I will do the review on the q60 vs g37
yeah but make sure they're on the same level e.g. G37S vs Q50S or G37xS vs Q50S AWD. 2 many car channel do mix match car comparo all the time. the only thing that's bad is that the G37S sedan didn't get the IPL treatment like the coupe did. so if u did coupes, u could do the IPL G37S coupe vs Q50S RED SPORT coupe. now... this would be good if these guideline are followed. annnnnd since I'm an owner of a'11 6spd G37S sedan, i'd like to see this done
93remix thank for sharing that info! So then I should compare the Q60 Red Sport 400 rear wheel drive on both? Since they are both high performance rear wheel drive coupes?
the Q60 RED SPORT vs the IPL G37S, or the G37S sedan vs the Q50S sedan (just make sure if they're similar e.g. AWD or RWD only) no, wildly modified G37's or Q50's. remember, there was no IPL sedan so a RED SPORT sedan would smash it outright
I’m leasing a 2016, and a few things Infiniti has to change for me to get a 2020 model would be the interior...They need to rehaul it, because it feels so cheap and plastic like. The computer system is not that fast on my 2016 model either, hoping it’s better on newer models and supports iOS and Android integration. If none of these are drastically improved, then I’d have to make a move to German.
Keep in mind it's a mid-cycle if not later refresh of the model. In terms of CarPlay/A.Play, I never understood the attraction to them. Typically the built in apps do less and in some cases such as texts, they cripple them. My phone is mounted just next to the stock screens and can do just about everything via a simple "hey google" I don't even use the built in phone dialer in the RS400 as my phone is better.
Just install an rear diffuser to make it looks like 2018. And you all set. Not gonna sold my car until it's 5 year old. The new models usually comes after 5 years the cars are around.
Only pros I saw was the interior with the shifter, paddle shifters being connected to the wheel rather than the column. The new leather sticking and design of the chairs. The rear of the car looks way better now. The front..... eh jot so much. Looks like a regular a or p model. The frowny face should of been incorporated. Someone should look into if the the tail lights can be shaped out along with the rear bumper. I know the shifter can be and the grill emblem that lights up is a simple wire tap into the nighttime running lights. But I don't think it's worth trading in your 15 or 16 model.
Hey good video, but I was really hoping you would cover MMI behind the steering wheel in more depth. My biggest concern ws how dated the older version looked with such a small screen with really low resolution. Did they change this for the 18? This as well as the low resolution gps and infotainment system display. I went with the Maxima a much nicer looking display. Another issue the reverse camera again such a low cheap looking display. Has this changed at all? If Infiniti hopes to compete with the likes of Audi as well as other German brands these over sights cannot occur. Audi has the amazing 3d cockpit while infiniti has been using the same display from 06.
Torque Junkies realllly wow. I'd wait. The re design will be more up to par.. Nissan / infiniti I find always been slow in keeping pace. Their product planning needs work or they are really lazy.
Jerry Lim how many cars had a 7 speed in 2003? You must prefer the cvt then? Newer doesn't mean better. Dct are very expensive. They should at least bring a manual trans back to the lineup.
Jeremy Venturino Do yourself a favor and research before typing nonsense. There are several reports that their transmission are not performing as expected.
The exhaust is no comparison to the G35 and G37 of old. Perhaps turbo charging has taken away from the exhaust sound. The aftermarket sounds just a little bit better. They need to put the GTR motor in this bad boy like the "au rouge" concept that was mentioned. Should be an easy thing to do and this card would kick ass with that motor and all wheel drive to go against the M3.
i don't know which one to pick but both of them are beautiful the old was fast with the 3.7 the 3.0t is fast also i don't the new q50 yes or the old one tell which one to get
Torque Junkies I have literally only owned nissans and infinitis since I got my license. I feel like the end of an era happened when they got rid of the g37. I own a 2013 g37S 6speed and I literally cherish this car everyday, lol!
I am not sure what the apprehension is with the steer by wire. It is better than anything I have experienced in my previous G's. I've had my Q50 hybrid since Jan 2016 and my steering can be softened/hardened at any point in time. My preference is Hard/Quick steering which gives it that sportier/tighter feel. I fly around corners with more confidence than most daily commuters. Don't knock it till you try it.
I saw the red sport in person the other day again and it reminded me that it is also a very great looking car Well i wont be able to afford the red sport for about 10 years.
The lights on the rear of the car are actually called "TAIL LIGHTS". Your supposed to be an authority on cars!?!? Maybe you might want to reconsider a career change. Greeter at Walmart maybe!!!!
I didn’t know car taillights are now headlights 😂🤦♂️🤷♂️
those are taillights not headlights in the rear!
Ozzie I know now lol
Seriously I was annoyed by him saying headlight over and over again
This has been covered ad nauseum.
im pointing at the moon and the idiot is watching my finger
They're headlights if you drive backwards. LMAO
12 changes for the 2018, nice.
Changes:
Digital speedometer
LED glow logo in front
Newer grille
Black bottom fog lights
Black side mirrors
Rear bumper reflector delete
Rear diffuser added
Rear bumper chrome bar delete
Full LED taillights
Red brake calipers
Diamond seats with red stitching interior
Paddle shifters now mounted to steering wheel
Is it possible to install digital speedometer into 2016? And read raillightz?
The only differences that I would prefer my 2016 RS 400 had are the new steering wheel and the tail lights, I personally believe the old sport bumper looked more aggressive in the front but the new rear end looks more aggressive. Nice review overall, first one I saw with a direct comparison!
Josh Urbach yeah the 2016 has a really nice grill. Thank you! I'v got more coming!
Toss the 'electronic' steering into a gaped sphincter, put back the old G37 hydraulic system.
My Red Sport is a 2016 and i dont have the electronic steering i opted to not have that package i think its standard on 2017s and 2018s tho
I totally agree!!!
Even though I only have 2 more years to receive a permit, this gives me a head start into what car i want.
glad to help
Had the Q50 Redsport 400, as a loaner while my G37X was in the shop. Thing hauled ass. I offered them a direct trade, but they declined.
Jeff Spehar yeah man! That car is fast
I thought he was getting pulled over. Love the Redsport.
+Tim O that would have been hilarious 😂

You got the Bose speaker system or Bose performance?
try a sprint booster might help you with the delay.
I still in love with my 3.7 Q50.
How many years you own it?
Torque Junkies Just as I expected....... fun and great review! I enjoyed that you did the comparison! :D
VQ3713 thank you! I actually was thinking "I bet Brandon would think this is cool" as I was filming! Lol 😂

the209ceres I know!! I love the way it looks

Wow! The 2018 Infiniti Q50 RedSport 400 looks great. Nice video.
Orlando J Vlogs thanks man! I liked your car shopping video
Torque Junkies Thanks! Have a good week.

Best video so far. You're getting good at this! Keep it up ❤️
+Joshua Rubin thank you! That means a lot to me!
Great review! Kinda upset that I didn't wait for this upgraded version of the Q50. Lol
Lissy Sol hey either way you're winning!
Lissy Sol thank you!
Q50 owners, do you prefer this turbo engine over the 3.7 NA engine (like the 14 & 15 model)? Your thoughts pls.
Asid Mohammad I’m a future q50 owner and I would go for 3.0t engine at all cost even if it’s 5 k more u won’t regret it latter because it’s easy to get 500+whp not crank but whp with the 3.0t . Taillights not Headlights 😬 so to conclude they just borrowed a couple of things from the 2014 Q50s Hybrid ?
+The Noid lol some things. I haven't really checked out the hybrid
Nice presentation but “slip of the tongue” at 7:46, you said “also in the new Camry?”....you’re doing Infinity right?... lol.

When is infiniti going to do a style refresh i hate this current model bring back the g37's stylish design
Then buy the G37 then.
No i traded in that ugly pos for a lexus rcf
Eustace no
uhvgfdsy
I
I like the stock exhaust better
Headlights still turn with the steering like my hybrid?
AllboostStarion88 I believe so, yes
Yes, they are adaptive headlights
How many headlights does the q50 red sport have?
That new steering wheel looks hot
Still sad that it has steer by wire :-(
+Matthew Nyden I know :(
Torque Junkies I have literally only owned nissans and infinitis since I got my license. I feel like the end of an era happened when they got rid of the g37. I own a 2013 g37S 6speed and I literally cherish this car everyday, lol!
Matthew Nyden yeah that's a fantastic car 🚗
I like the dash and two touch screen wish they had that in the M37x/q70. Otherwise for a big boy like me I love my M37x fully equipped
How the hell is my 2018 q50 red sport exhaust silence?
Headlights are in the front... tail lights are in the back.. smh 🤦♂️
Thanks for the correction!
They look the same lol it's subtle changes .I think that's bull they could have differentiate them more !
+Kenton Patterson yeah I here what you're saying, even 20 more hp
Can they put the 2016 exhaust into the 2018?
Sung Sam yes they can
Torque Junkies that's exactly what I have to do then because that 2016 sounds way better.
good review
Vacation Slayers thank you!
Nothing screams Japanese performance quite like a brown colored twin turbo Nissan with steering by PlayStation.
Man O War hahaha true that!
you kept on saying headlights with your hands on the tailights
Checked, thanks
I dont remember, did he say "aggresive look"?!
At the beginning of the video you referred to the tail lights as head lights. Big mistake....
Missed a lot in this video, reading the comments I'm learning more than the video
Sorry for the late upload. My computer crashed, it wouldn't upload my video 😩I need a new computer! Lol enjoy 😊
Whassup With The Dora The Explorer Shoes 😂😂🙆
LOL!
When he keeps saying "headlights" instead of taillights. I'm like "what am I watching?"
I subbed tho
He thought it was the cops. Lmao
performance is good they sure have gained a lot of power i like the redsport 400. As far as looks go nothing beats the g35.
erik gilbert the g35 was beautiful
I saw the red sport in person the other day again and it reminded me that it is also a very great looking car Well i wont be able to afford the red sport for about 10 years.
erik gilbert you never know! You might be able to afford it a lot sooner
erik gilbert indeed infinities tend to have resale for much cheaper than the competition.
3-4 years and their price could be halfed.
erik gilbert G35 is the best infiniti ever made .
I like the front end of the 16 better.
Fax more aggressive
eau rouge not en rouge.
Ramsin hahaha! Dang! Well now I know, thank you
Eau rouge making reference to the Belgium famous turn
What is wrong with you Infiniti? Still no manual option!
diamondheat9 nobody wants to many more so than that going to put them in
The exhaust on the 2016 is horrible that was a poor choice should have kept the original
Subscribed. :)
Alex Moran thank you!
infiniti have a nice emblem though no doubt. lol
I stoped watching when he called the taillights headlights🤦🏽♂️
No Android Auto Apple car play yet?
When looking at the rear of the car .....You mean "tail lights",right?
You can order a black grille.
still dont have apple carplay?
jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj no it doesn't 😩
Everyone wants to be a car reviewer these days. Even those that don't know the difference between headlights and taillights.
2016 sounds better idk why
The lights on the rear of the car are actually called "TAIL LIGHTS". Your supposed to be an authority on cars!?!? Maybe you might want to reconsider a career change. Greeter at Walmart maybe!!!!
Dude, is it nice review
The 2018 front end and rear ends looks better....
No Apple car play?
Man why are they still using such an outdated transmission.
