you and max are the best food content creators in vietnam at the moment. thanks for spreading the love for viet food and can’t wait to see what food projects you have in the US in the future
Hi Chad, this is Kevin Vo Thomas, I m Vietnamese decent, I live in San Diego CA, I love to watch all your videos about Vietnamese food in Saigon. I left Vietnam when was very young high, I totally forgot all about Vietnamese culture and food, but your videos bring me back to my Vietnamese culture. I will travel to Viet Nam, Singapore and Bangkok Thailand this September. I would like to invite you and your family for traditional Vietnamese food because I have been watching your videos for free.
Dudeeee Vietnamese people are so creative with drinks. When I thought from my coffee/tea shops veteran experience, I have covered all the well-known and lesser known drinks. And new shop pops up and they have their own twists and turns (I have never heard of Sugar cane Strawberry before and didn't know it could work!) which is sublime!
Hey Chef! Love it when you talk in Viet to the vendors and pronounce the different food (or in this case drink!) in Vietnamese! I haven't been but it really helps me get acquainted with the language for the eventual trip I'm planning!
I love it, too, and I wish more people will do that. It'll help clear up confusions like spring rolls, summer rolls, etc. Are they the fresh or fried version...well, it depends on where you live! And then there are those that call goi cuon salad rolls, rice rolls, etc. I've been on a mission to get influencers to start using the Vietnamese names. If Westerners can learn banh mi and pho, they can learn goi cuon (fresh spring rolls), cha gio (fried spring rolls), trung/hot vit lon (fertilized duck egg), canh chua (sour soup), etc.
@@doodahgurlie agreed! I always ask for my orders in Vietnamese when I get my favorite local places, even though I don't speak a word otherwise! Cha Gio is a personal favorite of mine so I know it well 😁
@@TheAnatic You just need Viets to help you out. Here's me trying to help you out...when you see the ch words together, think j sound. The gi is either y (south) or z (north) sound. The t and th sounds are swapped in English. And please, please use the v and qu sounds as they are written (plus it'd be easier for you to say it if you see it written that way in Vietnamese). The south bastardized the v to a y sound so Vietnam is Yietnam (in Hai Phong, it's VietLam...egads!)
@@TheAnatic have you tried/had chả giò that was wrapped in rice paper (traditional) instead of the yellow wheat wrap they use here in the States? that one hits different.
I am not a sweet tooth nor am I a "drinker" but Vietnamese coffee blew my mind. Was addicted and had 3 a day too! But the other drink that blew my mind was Tra Dao (I probably haven't spelt that right - peach iced tea) the best one was at the flower markets ho thi Ky
You wont see them do it often, but see if you can ask them to turn the coconut jellies into smoothie. I tend to turn them into smoothie whenever i can and i must say it's quite the drink that you wouldn't want to miss. Though i advise you to not use the old jellies or they won't mix well into the smoothie and have quite a lot of chunky bits, too young and you won't have enough jellies. See if you can find one that's just ripe I know all this because i work at a cafe and sometimes customers would buy a coconut without eating the jellies, so i just decided to try it
I'ma first gen Viet kid from Atlanta. It makes so much sense that back in Vietnam iced tea is main staple, just like in the south were sweet tea is a main stay.
Just discovered about your channel recently. I must say that your content is enjoyable and as a Vietnamese i glad that someone actually love Vietnam culture this much as you. Also, your channel by now is my current favorite English learning material on youtube, just love your speaking and learn some words about foods in Vietnam. A Big Thanks for you. Hope you a good day.
Thanks to your traveling to Vietnam, i'm a Vietnamese but i don't have a lot of time to try cultural food like you, i wish in one day i can try all of them. Thanks a lot❤❤❤❤
Ah the good ol drinks of Vietnam, I had so many cups of sugarcane juice whilst in Vietnam when I was there, although i did find a vendor who sold me some lychee, rambutan with cocount juice, I cant remember what district it was from but it was so good.. it was about 80c as well
First time watching video of this channel. Really surprised and impressed with the very good Vietnamese pronunciation! Wish you always have great moments in Vietnam!
I love it! I want to see more variety of drinks....and I wanna see you try that flan drink/dessert at the boba tea place. That looks absolutely delicious to me. I actually wanted to see you try all the flavors at all the places, but yeah, that's a bit much. LOL!
I remember seeing your videos months ago, a year ago and the production wasn't there. Nowadays, the caliber of your content/production is really good with good editing. I can see you will hit 100K soon and giving Max McFarlin and Phuc Map a run for their money. Just subscibed! The drinks are all amazing. I paid $7-8 bucks in America for a sugarcane drink and it's 42 cents there? Insanely cheap!
I am living abroad and I love your videos because they remind me about Sai Gon, despite that I just went back there (to visit my family ) 4 months ago. I will go back to Sai Gon next year.
only came across Chad'd video now! Love the energy of his videos and the editing is on point. It got all the high peak and quiet moments where he let the viewers soak in the experience
if you get nuoc mia in mien Trung (central Vietnam) you often find a little jar of salt, they always add some salt in drinks but there is one on the side and ppl can add extra if they want! this makes the drinks super balance and actually more delicious
Love this episode but I prefer the traditional cafe sua da where the coffee is dripping from a filter and then you drink. What you have is more the western version, especially in that cup
12:40 Because there are many different types of coconut trees, the fruit will taste different. if you like sweetness, ask the seller for "Siamese Coconut", u can say "dua sim". yeahhh
The ambarella that you drank was a thai varient of the fruit, it is smaller and the pit inside is soft so they are perfect for juicing, the big varity is better for eating. Ps:Yes district one is a popular district for foreign tourist so alot of places in that district have way higher prices, it's a good district for sightseeing but if it's street food you're after then my recommendation would be district 8.
Your videos are so cool. Although I am a Vietnamese but I have never tried these drinks or food before because the number of them is extremely wide and it is impossible to count all the beverages and food we have. I am ecstatic because you like them😂
Haha I can’t believe I’ve see you on here after I think the last time I’ve met you in 2019 in the airport going to Vietnam you’ve mentioned that you’re a chef and doing UA-cam video. Congrats again on becoming big.
You should try seaweed herbal tea, it extremely refreshing, my favorite of all time, it difficult to find. It traditional summer drink back in the day in Vietnam. Another recommendation for you to try is jelly fish noodle soup, also my favorite
Man I dont even know that Mía Dâu exists until I watch your video, and I happened to come across a stall the next day. Darn new things come to life every day.
I can't believe you like tra da of all the fancy drinks out there hahaha. I thought you'd include rau ma (mugwart), egg coffee, che (traditional dessert drink with tapioca, beans, fruits, coconut milk popular before boba) or others I don't know about.
Love the ca phe sua da, and sugar cane, and all their smoothies, but never had 'coc' smoothie, although the fruit is sooo good. In Hawaii years ago, fresh coconut was $10 each. You should try 'rau ma' drink, it's herbal and so good for you, not really sweet.
Questions?? what do they do with all that used cane. Im 56 and i LOVEEEEEE bobo tea... they wouldnt charge you because your BECOMING famous, he probably sees your videos, which is so cool. Tell Mr Tang hello... thanks, your inspiring
Living in District 7 and can't agree with you more that "nuoc mia - sugar cane juice" is so darn good and I love it, even crave for when my period's coming.
Maybe you can do one with the various coffees like egg, salted, yogurt, peanut, pandan, etc.? Would love to see those featured or anything cool and unusual that you find. Maybe start with the basics first by introducing the regular black drip coffee, then the cafe sua da with the phin filter so foreigners know how to prep it, then show the bac xieu version, and so on and so forth.
from the shooting to the content and editing, so professional. Your videos are fun but also informative. But I don't look forward to the day you'd add tuong ot Chinsu to everything =))) although I understand it's not always easy as a content creator.
I just bought some nuoc mia over the weekend here in SoCal. It was $7 for a 32oz cup, with ice. Yes that's an option here otherwise it's more $$ without ice lol!
Hey man, really love what you’re doing, but really take those sugary drinks a break, cause it may not be always that good for your health. But love to see more from you
Great content. Lots of delicious ice cold drinks, but can foreigners consume the ice? Do they make the ice from tap water or is it commercially filtered made ice?
