My very first ca phe sua da was when I asked my father-in-law to bring me back a pack of Vietnamese coffee and a phin from Vietnam. Not knowing where to buy it from, he went to Highlands Coffee, and brought back a pack of ground robusta from them, and their branded phin. So I made it at home following tutorials from actual Vietnamese people (I wanted to make it right) and it turned out delicious! Fast forward a couple years, and I went to Vietnam for the first time, and it was now time for me to finally taste what TRUE ca phe sua da should taste like. Let me tell you this: I have tried several chains, but also independant coffee shops, and nothing compared to the one I made at home. I finally went to Highlands, and it was the only place where it was just as good, if not better. I thought it would be like Starbucks, just low-quality coffee with great branding. But oddly enough, it is by far the best way to experience Vietnamese coffee, wether you buy one already made in the shop, or buy you coffee bags there for you to make at home.
Long story short: Highlands Coffee makes the best Vietnamese coffee.

Unknown how to order it from the local coffee shop, they called it "Coffee with a pot sitting on the glass" (cà phê có cái nồi ngồi trên cái ly). 10:18 "Cốt" means the first batch, the extract, condensed form of the (mentioned) liquid. "Nước cốt dừa" is the first, thickest batch of liquid that you squeeze out of the shredded coconut meat with just a tiniest amount of added water, after that you can add more water to the coconut meat and squeeze 2-3 more times, those are called "nước dão". Same with filtered coffee, the 1st batch is "cà phê cốt"; poor people may not discard the coffee powder right after that, but rather use it 1-2 more times to make "cà phê dão", which tastes very much like Korean style Americano. "Nước mắm cốt nhỉ" are the first drips of fish sauce from the tonneau and "giấm cốt" is pure vinegar.

    : Espresso from King Coffee.
giiving you a shout out, and prolly gonna roll in more views, because other channels rarely review anything from Vietnam or even the stronger ones from Turkey .
my usual mix : Espresso + Drip from any of the blends from HCMC + 3 in one from the list here. [ usually vinacafe or G7 if My Legend coconut runs out]
for the actual coconut taste Archcafe
enough for 2 and half cups for me to get going .
Now, for those who are not within asia, head over to Lotte Malls in HCMC or Hanoi , the mega ones, and you should be able to get a check in luggage worth of coffee boxes.
and if you're traveling, the best coffee usually arent there, but everywhere . theres no specific one cafe

(I also really liked their Tshirts but they couldn’t sell me one!) We can’t get their ground coffee in the US but recently I’ve seen their instant “3-in-one,” so I’ll try that!
But I got the best coffee from the guy in a hole-in-the-wall shop across the street from where I stayed. :-)
Phúc Long was one I tried early on out of curiosity but it was definitely 👎. I was told that they really made their name with tea rather than coffee. It was a combination of weird tasting and forgettable. (Meaning that I can’t really remember how exactly it was weird tasting… But it was.)
I did like Coffee House, and it was conveniently close to where I stayed.
Have you tried The Little Bean on Cao Thắng? The coffee was decent and the locale itself was really cool. they were creating a wonderful tropical garden on the rooftop; it was fun watching it expand over the month I was there, and I can’t wait to see it again soon.
The only ground coffee we can get here is Trung Nguyen. It’s okay but I’m not a fan of the clearly artificial chocolate flavoring.

First i thought that my taste goes lame, but... It used to be very strong and bitter, sometimes I have to add extra sugar or milk, but I like it that way and now they taste like the other mediocre instant coffee. Sometimes it tastes like water if I mix too much, I used the same cup 500ml for years, the same 2 packs with water to the half and some ice, but now I need 4 packs if I want the taste that I had before. Same weight and price, but half the product you got before, and who knows what the hell they added to it to keep the mass.

the Vina cafe you've got is Saigon flavour, which I assume it's how Sai Gon people prefer it to be. They have other flavour, which include original one and other versions, you could have tried the original one, the coffee is stronger, with bitter taste as well. Used to be my favourite, now there are just many more to choose from

Please do a blind test of these brands again, it would be so interesting to see if you can identify your "favorite brands" without looking.

there's one spot that you have missed. When it comes to Cafe Sữa Đá, you are supposed to pour the coffee over the ice to get the best flavor.

There is definitely something with can coffee (or most other drinks) that seems to affect the taste. I have had Boss coffee in PET bottle form and it tasted great.

Maybe you can try the coffee which is sold by the street vendors, u can see some " dì " (aunt - that's what we actually called them ) standing on the wayside, they are everywhere in this city with a small cabinet at the front. Their coffee's flavour has pretty difference cause thay add a little bit salt and that will balance with the overly sweet. To be honest, it tastes different from the others

To be fair, Phuc Long is a chain specializing in TEA, and coffee is an extra thing, usually, when you do extras, it won't be as good as the thing you are being known for.
So, almost comparable to The Coffee House or any coffee-specialize chain is already a good thing for PL.

I think for can coffee, you should try drinking them straight from the can and without the ice, the ice is what makes them watery.
If you want them hot - microwave in a cup, cold - refrigerator thats it.
Tried many brands can coffee and Highlands can coffee is my can of coffee to go when I dont have time to make myself one.
Just take them out of the refrigerator and you are ready to go.

my fav coffee in vn is the coconut slush coffee from cong cafe !! (also the boss might taste flat because vietnamese coffee uses robusta beans whereas abroad arabica beans are used for coffee aka more mellow in flavor and not as strong tasting!)
