I never liked peter getting killed off for miles to become the new spiderman. Personally, I always preferred what they did in the insomniac games. Have peter mentor miles and have them both be the spidermen of the city, and then eventually retire peter for miles to be the only spiderman.

Personally I just want Miles to take over as the young, youthful Spider-man that kids and teens can relate too going through more modern teenage issues and drama dealing with Highschool. While Peter finally grows up, whether it be with Carlie, Felicia or MJ. Happily married, having a stable job and being a father to Mayday or another kid of his. Being the older, more experienced Spider-man adults can relate too. Marvel has a perfect opportunity to do this in a way of making both Peter and Miles even more interesting…but they unfortunately don’t.
Right, it’s part of why I enjoy both the Spider-Verse movies, the Insomniac series and hell even the new Ultimate Spider-Man issue. They actually allow Peter to actually grow while still keeping that relatability aspect to him so that’s people who grew up with him or whether they’re just getting older are in college or out of college or are in their midlife and resinate with and Miles can have is own thing where today kids can relate to. And I said this before but I’m more than happy that Miles can be for them just like Peter was to us.

I really like Miles to be the Spider-Man for this generation and the next generation of kids and teenagers to be able to relate to, in a similar way Peter used to back in the day, in order for Peter to grow up and be relatable to the adults. It’s kinda like a nice way of passing the torch onto Miles in a way that benefits both Spider-men while *NOT* replacing the original. Plus I feel like this gives Miles more of his own identity as the youthful teenage Spider-man, who’s still trying to find his balance in life as a hero, student, son and boyfriend like Peter did. While Peter’s new identity is the experienced, adult Spider-man who’s found balance in life while still trying to juggle between being a hero, a husband and a father. This is the direction Marvel *SHOULD* be going…but nope…we got Paul.

I don't think Peter needs to be replaced, just like any comic book character he is immortal and can have good stories as long as the writer is competent. The new Ultimate Spider-Man comic and the Spider-Verse movies are proof that you can still do a lot with the simple concept that is Spider-Man.
Sometimes I feel like people love Spider-Man/Peter so much that they get fully enraged at how bad his comics are these days, and they get so angry that instead of wanting his stories to be better they just want the character gone, but let's be real: that won't happen.
That's the way of this industry, just like other characters that retired and came back, Peter will still be here in the future. Also, I want to remind everyone that some time ago Marvel was really against everything Fox was doing with their characters (FF and X-Men) and that led to a pretty bad era, they just made the Fantastic Four disappear after Secret Wars and took quite a long time for them to have a new comic, and X-Men was really suffering up until the Krakoa Era came. What I'm trying to say is that every character will have bad runs, some more than others, but we can always hope that new good stories will appear, in fact Ultimate Spider-Man by Hickman is pretty much that, in one of the worst times for the character we were blessed by a really cool story with Peter Parker as Spider-Man.

I think recent spiderman comics messed his mind and made him a villain.
This is ultimately what Miles Morales fans truly want. It always has been. I remember getting shouted down when I said they wanted Peter dead and gone. 'You're being paranoid, nobody wants to replace Peter! Stop being a hater!'
I knew from the start. You can't claim to be a Spider-Man fan and then turn around and want Peter gone by that same token. It's completely absurd. Peter Parker is Spider-Man, for better or worse.
The answer is to simply fix what's wrong with the current status quo, not getting rid of the fucking character at the drop of a hat. They did so after the Clone Saga, that storyline almost killed Spider-Man comics. They tried making Ben Reilly the one true Spider-Man. Guess what happened? True fans of the character flat out rejected it and Marvel were forced to bring back Peter.
You have to be a special kind of stupid to think you can simply swap out a character after over 60 years of history with his bargain bin knock off.
It doesn't matter who you suggest. Ben, Kaine, Miguel, Miles, it doesn't matter because audiences will flat out reject it every time.
But keep driving at it. This is exactly why I could never get on board with Miles. His fans want Peter gone in a way I've never seen from fans of Ben, Kaine or Miguel. It's insane.
What it essentially boils down to is this. I think everything about Spider-Man is cool but goddamn, I wish he weren't white. That's what Miles is. That's what Miles fans like about Miles. That's why his race seems to be hyper focused on, because in their eyes, making Spider-Man black 'fixes' him in some way.
It's racism, essentially. If you didn't like a character before but suddenly do now that there's a version of another race, then you're racist.
Cos I've read Miles' comics since his start in the Ultimate universe, ever since his first appearance in Ultimate Fallout. I always try to give new characters a chance. I did with Miguel and I ended up loving him.
But Miles? Gun to my head, I couldn't tell you a damn thing that's so special about him to set him apart from the rest of all these Spider characters.
Another thing I've noticed is the insistence that he's Spider-Man. The frothing at the mouth insistence that he's just as valid as Peter. I've never seen that from Miguel fans. From Ben fans. From Otto fans. Never.
Who's that? Oh, that Spider-Man 2099. Cool.
Him? Oh, that's the Sensational Spider-Man. It's Ben Reilly. Sweet.
You fucking know that's Spider-Man 2099, look at that sexy son of a bitch.
And of course that's Otto, he's the Superior Spider-Man or certainly likes to think so.
But Miles? He's just Spider-Man. And only Peter is just Spider-Man. Since that's the name he conceived when he got bit, made the costume, built the web-shooters and created his own legacy.
I just don't get it. I genuinely don't understand the outright anger that emerges when people even suggest, hey, you know what, maybe Miles should get his own fucking name since his fans love to claim he's such an original character.
I know why. Because they know deep down that the second that happens, the second Miles stops going by Spider-Man, it's over. They'll lose interest. Because he's not Spider-Man anymore so who the fuck cares, right? Because they don't like Miles. Not really. They like the idea of him. They like the idea of Spider-Man being black. It's like a fad. It's the in thing.
I want that but gay. I want that but trans. I want that but black. That's why there are so many of these lame fucking knock-offs running around now. And the Spider-Verse films only exacerbated the problem. Because now everyone can be Spider-Man and it 'doesn't matter who's under the mask'.
If it doesn't matter, then what's the problem with Peter Parker? There isn't one. But in their eyes, him being a straight, white man? That's a big fucking problem.

I hear you but it's not about 'replacing' Peter Parker. This video's message is about the natural progression of the story. In fact, it's more about Peter growing up than it is about Miles taking his place. Peter needs to start a family, let his story come it's latter stages, the way us comic fans have wanted for a long time. Miles is metaphysical, youthful and natural replacement for Peter Parker in the 616 universe as the main Spider-Man. Peter would still be about but doing OTHER stuff, which imo is better than what the comics are producing right now.
Such a boring unoriginal character, at least other spiderman have a unique aspect which make people like them. Eg 2099 is the futuristic spiderman, scarlet spider is the clone spiderman, noir is the 1930s themed spiderman etc. What’s so unique about miles character apart from him not being white?
Miles needs to be in his own Universe. Without a Peter Parker in it. Because he’s literally always in Peter’s shadow. And I mean WITHOUT. Like he never existed in that universe.

So there are three things I think need to happen with Miles before something like this happens:
1. Miles' rogues gallery needs to develop more. He just went through this thing with Gao and Rabble but he really does not have the iconic Spider-Man villains yet.
2. Miles needs better relationships with other 616 characters. Post Civil War II he has only really hung out with Ms. Marvel, Blade, and Misty Knight. He needs to interact with other Avengers more.
3. Miles needs more iconic storylines. He has several good standalone issues and arcs but since coming into the 616 universe, he really has not had a storyline that has stuck with fans with the exception of Civil War II.
Bonus: He should also probably graduate from high school first as well.

I don’t think Miles should be the main Spider-Man of 616. I think both together sharing the limelight is fine. Peter is just too big and makes too much money to sideline. I think Miles’s book should be about a Young Spider-man and Peter Parker tells stories about a more adult oriented. Also I don’t want the stagnation Peter currently has to affect to Miles as well.
It Miles starts outselling Peter then yes. Miles will never get out of Peter's shadow until he starts having his own iconic original villains and stories, until then, he'll always be in second place

You don't read Spider-Man because of Miles, you read because of Peter Parker. "Oh, but with Miles you still can have Spider-Man in high school". You mentioned about rehashing, and put Miles as the main Spider-Man is what you'll get: rehashing the same stuff. And Marvel tried before in the 1990's with Ben Reilly, and even though Ben is interesting and is actually different from Peter despite beinf a clone, it didn't work. If it didn't work with Ben who is a good character, why would work now with Miles? Especially when, frankly, he is not really a good character. Outside of Spiderverse movies in which he is actually interesting, in the comics he is there to be Peter 2.0, with diversity points included as a bonus. And a decade later they can't do anything interesting with him. What is needed in 616 is fix Peter as a character, not replace him just so we can have more rehashing

Problem with marvel is they lack progression with the characters look at it this way Batman went from a lone hero to the bat family and now is a actual father Peter continues to have the bank account and overall life of a high school student anytime they gave him progress they took it away at least with miles everything he was in actually builds his character

Am i the only sane person here? Am i the only one who actually learns from history. Every time a popular character gets replaced, they fail. Superman, multiple times. Batman, multiple times. Green Arrow. They think they can keep using the brand without the character, but they can't. The only success was Wally West, and are you really gonna compare him to miles. Actually, i am going to compare them because it's the exact same situation. The biggest difference is that Miles is nothing but a lazy gimmick, and Wally wasn't. Wally West was mostly beloved. Miles is very divisive. Wally had been built up separately from Barry. Miles is only "popular" because of peter. Wally was also set up well enough and long enough for most people to accept him as the new flash. Miles had zero setup. He didn't even know Peter. Hes from a universe where they killed Peter before introducing miles as his replacment. Only recently does he have a connection with Peter. And in the spiderverse movie, they did the same thing. Wally had been around for almost 3 decades before becoming the flash. Miles is still very new. Wally had his own personality and his own story and was able to separate from Barry. That's a big difference. They were able to build them together but also separately so Wally could be on his own. Miles is nothing but peter in blackface. His villains are all peter villains. His stories are all peter stories. His origin is an exact copy of peter's. Barry and Wally did get their powers the same way, but the actual story, the before, the during, the after were completely different and made Wally more original despite being essentially a flash rip off. He needed more originality because he's unoriginal. Miles has no originality. Every time they try to separate miles from peter, it fails. Every single time. His comics dont sell. The miles game flopped. All of his popularity comes from the spider-verse films, which, you guessed it, had peter. And another thing, Wally was also the only Flash. Yes, jay garrick was still alive, and there were other speedsters, but Wally was the most prominent. Wally was the focus. When Impulse got a series, it was called "Impulse," not "Bart Allen: Flash." Now everybody and their aunt may is Spider-Man, and they all have a series. Fucking retarded. They dont even sell well enough justify a FCBD Special let alone a whole damn series. In summary, when Wally replaced Barry, that was the only time in comic history they actually did it right. And it was a fuckng miracle. They've even tried to push miles to the forefront before and utterly failed. What the hell are people smokin 😒
Big difference with Wally also is that Wally was there from almost the start and we saw him grow up, to the point that a lot of people considered him a better character than Barry. Even when Dick take over as Batman it made sense and I enjoyed that era, also it was during this time that I fully got into DC. But with Miles you don't have that and you'll never have because like you said he is there for diversity points.

the vast majority of fans will be for any love choice of Peter and hope that he and his wife (for example Felicia) will have charming children. otherwise, they are just aggressive MJ heretics who actually hate Peter.
I think it would be quite hard to keep a job when you repeatedly have to leave your workplace to save people as Spider-man. That amount of missed work would become a problem for his employer.

You can't just replace Peter Parker, and Spider-Man is intrinsically tied to Peter Parker. Miles will always be an alt version. Frankly, when he came to 616, he shouldn't have even BEEN Spider-Man anymore. I'm an advocate for Miles getting his own identity. He shouldn't replace Peter he should be his own hero. Further, replacing Peter with Miles doesn't fix the problems with Spider-Man it's just sweeping the problems under the bed and pretending they don't exist. Also, I'm just gonna say it, Miles's comics are only better right now because Peter's comics are atrocious. Miles's comics post-616 range from mid to bad.

If Miles were white, but everything else about him were the same, what would he bring to the table as a character that makes him special or unique? What kinds of stories are there to tell that can't already be told with a young Peter Parker? No, I don't think Miles is at all a worthy replacement, nor do I think he's as valuable as a character that people claim he is. Not like, let's say, Blade, Luke Cage, Storm, or Falcon. Writers just say "he is great" and we're just supposed to love Miles the same way we're just expected to love RiRi Williams when we already have Shuri. Personally, I believe the only way Miles works is an alternate universe where Peter Parker CAN'T be Spider-Man, or at least, the only one. I would much prefer an alternate universe like with Spider-Gwen where Miles got bit INSTEAD of Peter, or if Peter, Miles, Gwen, and maybe one or two more ALL got spider powers at the same time like Power Rangers or Street Sharks.
But having sooooo many alternate universe Spider-Man's only for Miles to be THE ONE TRUE HEIR is asking a lot of the audience, but then again I feel like this would be done just to appease people who enjoy the movies, cartoons, and video-games that feature him, but don't actually participate in the comic book community, kinda like when they introduced Nick Fury's black son who also HAPPENS to be named Nick and HAPPENS to lose his eye and HAPPENS to have a shaved head.
He is a succesor to Peter that's trying to live up to the OG, he wants to be like him but he is diferent from him unlike him he is more of a team player he isn't has smart and has different powers, and tries his hardest but keeps getting his ass kicked. He has a mom,Dad and uncle ( Who is a supervilain) unlike Peter. And he has a best friend whi knows his identity who He can talk to about his superhero stuff no problem.

What *actually* sets him apart from Peter other than him not being white? I say Yes a million times yes mostly because well Miles Morales Spider-Man should be around to move forward and letting him be the main Spider-Man now in the 616 universe while Peter parker Spider-Man being around to retire along side his wife Mary jane and they have there daughter mayday parker spider-girl alive and kicking in the mainstream marvel universe is the right thing to do at least in my opinion. Also because it can finally open the door for marvel to finally let Peter parker Spider-Man go and be happy, while Miles Morales Spider-Man can learn from his mentor Peter parker Spider-Man and being a great legacy successor to his friend is a great way to move forward for both characters at least in my opinion.
Do like Barry did with Wally where Wally became flash for a while for couple years and that give mile time to shine as main Spiderman while Peter be with his wife mj and kids and have mile do occasional team up Ben Reilly Scarlet spider and kaine scarlet spider so can know the two Parker clones

I figured he'd take his place when Ben became Spider-Man when Peter was in the hospital. I think DC nailed it with Wally West flash back in the day. They could do the same thing with Miles. Now do I like Miles? Well no, I did read his Ultimate comics and they were ok to me. Now he could take Peter's place and see how he'd handle the main series. Right now, Ultimate Spiderman is the only Spider comic I'm reading now.
Miles’ journey was really fleshed out in the ultimateverse. As a result, we all got to see that slow rise from backgrounds one-off to leading main character.
If you're going to do it fairly and organically, it would be more productive to have multiple spider characters try to fit that mold but show why Miles is the only one that can actually fit it outside of just being there... Because everyone else is there too, so what makes Miles so special?

A great parallel is Batman. The majority of people point to Dick Grayson being the heir to the title and dissect every character aspect that allows not only for him to take on that role, but why the other Robins aren't worthy.
Nothing like that can be done for Miles. He's, essentially, just in the right place at the right time, but that's not being worthy.

Miles is one of those many that just imitates Peter. Like I said, there's nothing that stands out that points to Miles as the next in line. In fact, it can be argued that Ben Reilly's willingness to give up his life to save what could've been a clone's suffering of not having an identity and then sacrificing himself to protect the life he gave up despite not knowing if it was his life at all is evident enough that Ben Reilly is more suited to be Spider-Man than anyone else.

The reason Miles has had such great stories nowadays is BECAUSE he's in Peter's shadow. When your character doesn't have the pressure of to be the financial pillar of your company, you get to have more freedom to tell awesome stories with him (Case and point: Jeff Lemire's iconic Moon Knight run). I mean, look at how they screwed up Ben Reilly in Spider-Man Beyond!
Also, I don't want those old white dudes that screwed up Peter nowhere near Miles! Specially with how awesome his current run has been!

Great video and you made some very great points I just wish that the marvel editorial would take on notes on how the Wally West and Barry Allen Flash are handled in DC where they coexist but both are allowed to grow evolve as characters without overshadowing each other
its a shame amazing spider-man has become Old yeller stale at this point and to think i grew up with the comic.
Imagine if 616 was like Star Wars Legends, that means we would have to deal with a permanent death of Mary Jane 😮 Forever, with no reboots and no remakes. And then Disney just ends telling stories in 616 forever.

I think Peter’s time in the spotlight is coming to an end. I haven’t read a good Peter Parker story in a long time so maybe it’s just time that Miles Morales does take over as the main Spider-Man.

Still haven’t read the Shadow of the Green Goblin yet as there is so many things that are unexpected.
The idea of Peter dying makes many fans uncomfortable (me included) but it truly does give Miles Morales’ version of Spider-Man more weight. Peter could never retire. That’s just not who he is. And if they work together, Peter will always remain the preferred Spider-Man. Killing Peter Parker is a great choice narratively. It creates a void that must be filled (enter Miles Morales). If they can successfully kill Peter in a linear Miles Morales story, commit to that choice & build Miles’ character/rogues gallery while telling new, fresh & unique stories, I believe he can successfully be his universe’s main Spider-Man and his stock as a character would certainly increase.
So basically do the exact same thing they did in the Ultimate Universe

This take isn't "woke".. It's more aimed at the fact that replacing Miles with Peter as the "youthful" Spider-Man would allow for Peter to grow up and follow a path similar to Ultimate Spider-Man (2024)
I need a serious and cool Peter who will become a major league hero. Miles can stay no.2. I don't need any pension with MJ and other nonsense. Yes, I want a married man (no matter what his wife's name is, he will perfectly connect with any heroine, be it Felicia, Cindy, Bobby, Carol, or at least another, adult version of Gwen-Spider). But if he remains a bachelor, but at the same time a really strong and great hero, that will suit me.
