    This is brilliantly simple. I don't make rods (stumbled on this looking at fly tying vid's) but I think it might solve a design issue I've had stuck in my head for years, for something to hold a spinning round rod length. I'd just need to scale it up so to be heavy duty, using speargun rubber. Thanks!!!!
    -You might have thought of and tried it, but having a mod'd design that can be screwed down to plywood or a desk/table top might be a good option for those that can't get/don't want pipe.
    -FYI: don't worry about patents. This is your design (since you changed the one you were inspired by from 3 bands to 4) and you've got precedence just by virtue of posting public videos. No one but big corp's with deep pockets can take action on patents anyway. People always love to shout "you should patent that" on YT, not considering YT is public domain and patents cost huge money to write up, register and defending them can bankrupt most people.
    Best thing you can do is make the stuff yourself, invest in getting the product in front of people and let word of mouth do the rest. Sell as much as you can, as soon as you can, because someone in China is going to see it, calculate if there's a profit to be made, buy one from you and reverse engineer it. Then knock it off for pennies on the dollar. They'll mass produce it and kill your business in the process. There's fart-all you can do about it. I know b/c I've had that happen with one of my designs.

      Thank you! Your patience and willingness to work with me on your broken wrapping jig and your input was very much appreciated! I’ve shipped a lot with the revised part with no issues whatsoever since then 👍 It is amazing how much difference a little extra material in that area made.

      I have also figured out the solution to moving the rod holders. I got 4 from you and stagger their spacing along a 36" wide base. I just move the rod to keep the guides away. In addition, I made a tray that might interest you. Fits on the rails and is very convenient.

      @@MarcoCecala I’d be interested in seeing your tray. I thought about making one to hold epoxy/tools (blades, scissors and things like that).

    Hi , in my point of view the main part only broke because you should send all the parts disassembled . Was the only mistake 👍🏽

      I agree that would be the best way to do it, I just thought it would be more convenient for people to get them fully assembled and, because there are so many parts that go into making up the thread carriage, they could be assembled wrong by a customer. It can be a little tricky to get the spring tension rods on correctly. The thread carriage works great when everything is assembled properly and I didn’t want to risk people not getting all the parts in their correct places.

    Lucky for me that my Son is on a Sailing Holiday in Florida.
    Order is in, paid by me, to send C/O my Son.
    Be good if every time I want something from you I have someone in the US to bring back to the UK for me.

      I’m currently looking into options for international shipping. My major issue with shipping outside the USA is filling out customs paperwork at the post office. It takes time to do and I don’t like the process. In the past, I did a lot of international sales through eBay because they have an automated process in place that would allow me to ship things abroad without having to do anything additional on my end. I would ship my item to them and they would handle the rest. The problem with that is I would have to charge more for my items in order to cover the additional fees they charge for using their platform. I haven’t completely ruled out shipping internationally and if I do start doing that I will make an announcement here on my channel letting people know about it. I have had enough people asking about it that I decided to look at different options to see if I can find an easier way to do it.

    Can this be made into a power wrapper?

    • @TheFishingHobby
      @TheFishingHobby  5 місяців тому

      Yes and no. I will be introducing a new add on for a higher speed motor setup soon. The setup will be for epoxy application and occasional power wrapping. If you want power wrapping 100% of the time, your best option will be to buy a purpose built power wrapper. My setup would be more geared towards someone who does the majority of their work by hand and occasionally does something like a long under wrap where they could make use of a power wrapper. The main use case would be for spinning the rod faster to aid with epoxy application. Even with the higher speed motor setup, the jig wouldn’t be rigid enough for grip work. Really a power wrapper is barely adequate for that and an actual wood turning or metal turning lathe is a much better option.
      As soon as I have that add on available, I will post a video on my channel about it in more detail.

    Have you ever thought about just selling the STL files?

    • @TheFishingHobby
      @TheFishingHobby  6 місяців тому

      I have and there are a lot of reasons why I decided against it. It would be easier to do that for me, but I had a hard time and spent a lot of time working with slicer settings and went through rolls of filament to get things to print exactly right with all the parts (wrapper and dryer parts). The parts look simple enough but they are tricky to print to where they hold up well like they need to. Then there is the problem with people redistributing the files.
