"I stop now because it become boring"
Sorin, it's NEVER boring! ;)
You are never, never boring as you spread happiness to customers and your followers! Thank you for a delightful video!
"That was an easy job " For you Sorin yes. Your electrical knowledge of circuit theory and component performance is exceptional. It is this, mixed with your drive to find the fault that makes you stand out from the crowd. Love watching your videos and your fault finding journeys. 👏👏👏👏
He's likely right, it was easy to find. If we find it, thats an open question.
Masterful diagnosis process, then targets the exact problem... 16:58
Proceeds to diagnose repair shop human resource competency/salary problem and nails that one too.

Why didn't you clean the fan as it was open?
I am realizing how quick, efficient and accurate you are on the job! Thank you for sharing all of this with us
Mr Sorin, I’m a computer technician from Singapore. I’ve been working on desktops since 1997 and only started working on laptops around the 2010’s. I’m amazed by your technical knowledge and expertise on technical level 5 component-level troubleshooting and repair, something I no longer have the chance to be able to acquire. Many years ago, I sustained an injury to my wrist and it never healed. It took 20 years to discover what had happened and I’m resigned to the fact I can never do soldering and use a soldering iron on component level work as my hand is unable to stay stable.
I’m resigned to the fact that I will only be a Level 3 computer technician. With that said, Mr Sorin, I can probably answer the part about a bigger company not being able to correctly diagnose the issue. Bigger repair companies have a lot of jobs to stay in business and they will always do the fastest way to get the job done.
We live in a throw-away world where planned obsolescence is the name of the game. If they don’t do this, factories that make new products will start to close down as people are holding on to the ‘old’ products. They expect everyone to get brand new products after the end of warranties. That’s why out-of-warranty repairs are so expensive.
The bigger repair companies are doing the same thing by charging people just to replace parts with spares from the factories without going down to component level troubleshooting like you do. The ‘failed’ part is sent back to the manufacturer to be refurbished or disposed off if they are discontinued.
We are a breed of computer technicians that keep ‘older’ but still serviceable systems running for as long as they can and delaying them from going to the trash. We are starting to go away like the dinosaurs with the latest Microsoft Windows 11 OS launch that has effectively made 7th Gen Intel and older systems obsolete.
Hello sir , Is it possible to dissassemble paper /slim LED panel in laptop safely without breaking the LCD and then put it back together . . Please give your valuable suggestion and there is a reason why I am doing it. . Thanku
@@naveenk6387 Usually, these components are part of the panel from the factory. Unless you have the exact tooling and materials from the manufacturer with a dedicated clean room, it's not possible to do this level of repair/rebuild for any technician to do successfully and cheaply compared to the cost of getting the finished panel direct from the factory.
The damaged display panels are usually sent to the recyclers so that they can be broken down to their raw materials for manufacturing new products. At least that what should be done.
@@generationscomputersystems
Ok the reason for me doing it is , I am a programmer by prof and I spend many hours infront of screen . . I was disassembling a spare monitor and found it had different layers behind LCD , there is a specific prism film (BEF sheets ) removing it I found it very useful and strain was significantly lower . .This was a personal real experience and I want to mimic on laptop screen as well
So are there ways to achieve this on laptop. . is it possible to buy custom screen( without prism sheet) or disassemble the screen just to remove the sheet or any other suggestion is welcome . . thanku
@@naveenk6387 If you want to do this, it's possible to disassemble a laptop screen. But delicate care and a clean room would be ideal. Good luck.
@@generationscomputersystems Thank u for the prompt reply . . I am from India and though my place has many hardware repair shops they are reluctant to do this , they either feel the paper/slim LED panel will break or they havent done this so dont want to commit . .
So if I have to do this on my own . . any specific tools or any reference videos/doc u know of ?
Sorin has soo much Knowledge about electronics and business, he also does not
need the thousands of dollars of test equipment that others need. I can't tell you
how many times I have seen Sorin fix electronics with his finger!!
😂😂😂😂😂 True
He's in the UK, so Pounds not dollars :)
This is MAGIC, brake a cap and repair the laptop. Like a master can do!
most of short come from a broken cap / mosfet
Best party trick ever.
@@wayne975 if in hospital they have people like him omg i will newer go ! ... i think i broke my hand cut it off :D now is ok :D next one please :D
Great video. The problem is that most guys that repair computers don't know what a mosfet is. In fact they probably don't know what a resistor is. Very few people are repairing down to component level. I have been at it for 40 years but we are a dying breed. Well done.
Very surprise you went for the mosfet and not the cap next to it. These caps frequently fail and the silicon rarely fails. Anyhow nice job. Don't forget to put a cap back :)
Hi Sorin - Thank you for sharing so much knowledge with all of us here on UA-cam. I look forward to seeing ALL your videos, even the ones you consider "trivial". Thank you and God bless!
Respect to this guy. He seems to have decades of experience behind his belt.
I hope you have cleaned that dirty CPU fan at the end! :)
I worked at Curry’s/PC World as a repair technician and can understand why they couldn’t fix it. My background is electronics in the era before modular components, we were taught to find the individual component that was faulty. PC World staff are not given this type of training, it’s basic.
So it's just swap over the boards until it works? So what do they know if not basic fault finding? Do they actually know what functions each discrete components have? Amazingly my confidence in Currys has now dropped even further!
@@jonathanpalmer155 Yes, they would swap the entire board. But the board probably costs more than the laptop is worth, if it is even still possible to get them.
I hope you suggested to the customer the possibility of adding some more RAM (nice up-sell 😉 ) As always a delight to watch you repair 'electronics'
Sorin made his magic again, just broke the bad cap clean off board and it`s back in business!
Sorin, I can't believe that you didn't take a minute to clean out that clogged fan. There is no happier customer than one that gets back a working computer and also a faster computer. Not to mention a quieter computer when the fan isn't spinning so fast trying to move air through a plugged fan. If you had a little hand vac it would only take 5 seconds to suck out the dirt.
Sometimes I clean the fans... and customers come back with a: "the fan is doing too much noise"
Yes it is really annoying to see that fan not being cleaned...
Great repair of course, but just leaving that dirty fan... why??
Hi SORIN,I have not watched any of your vids lately,as i have begun spending my spare time outside doing gardening.i have many older laptops that i bought just to mess with, maybe now i will pull out my repair station and try some repairing.i only have 1 issue> many of the ones i tried to fix before almost all had clogged fans but that was not the main problem, and on this one it looked dirty.I realize you don't want to breathe in peoples cat hairs and dust mites, but couldn't you at least use a little paint brush? haha I know a lot of your viewers ARE INSPIRED to try repairs, and your methods are great teaching lessons.I like it when you explain how to come to a solution and your not afraid to be honest in your opinions.i WILL begin to follow you once again,so thank you SORIN,a friend in the USA.
You're a legend in the world of repairing. Thank you for this video.
Totally agree with you, most companies right now don't do these kinds of repairs you do, they demand knowledge, tools, employees that know how to do it, etc. The good thing is that it leaves more room for us
Used to work for PC world many years back and at the time the techguys now know how or what ever they changed the name to had no clue how to fix anything, they usually just stumbled around in the dark and anciently found an issue , but always they would never to a simple board level component replacement it would always be a full replacement that was often prohibitively expensive, the whole model is why replace a component that costs 50p when you can tell the customer its going to be several hundred to replace the whole motherboard, or the golden gem ... Oh it is utterly broken ( holds back laughing ) and cant be fixed (man my commission this month is gona be great )... now let me show you our new range of laptops oh and do not forget you will need new bag / internet security and insurance
I went for an interview at KnowHow in Newark. Looked a bit strict for me but I would of enjoyed it. Been to collage studying electronics years ago.
24:00 Is it just me, or was the fan chock-a-block full of dust.
That was my first thought when he opened it!
Same here
Wow that dust in the fan😂
Nice video as always! Kind of ASMR with a playful twist... But I NEED to know, what about that faulty condenser? Did you replace it?
Love watching this guy, no excuses and not always right but he will sort it out ,kind regards colin from croydon surrey England 👍 👏 ❤
Excellent job as always, even without a thermal cam you know which part on the board to check for the problem that's an impressive skill thanks for sharing
Thank you for making this video Sorin.
How good it was to see you work thank you
Brilliant fix thanks Sorin
Another great work. God bless you Sorin!!
new technique taught and easy to understand. God bless
I was a pc engineer with pc service call who then became tech guys then the Dixons group got rid of the engineers. So no one now does board level repairs on pc's and laptops in your house.
Love your work 👍
You are top notch and respect to you.
They hoped the customer would buy a new one from them. Or this one would have cost so little, so it 'wasn't worth their time'. Some businesses are immoral. Your explanation is logical, too.
The problem is many of these large companies have contracts in place with manufacturers that stop them from doing board level repairs like this
Soren, your videos are never “becoming boring”...
Currys do not do component level repairs, they are part swappers only.
Jus turn it on and off, if it doesn't turn on its a no repair :D
Nice job, thx for video😊👍🏻
By watching only your video I was able to fix my laptop and others laptop. Thanks
You are our teacher sir many things i learn it from you in my life 🥰😁
Thanks Sorin .another great video
That’s a easy job. Sorin can’t believe you fixt something. And professional’s can’t do it. Love the way you do it
It is not easy, it is easy for you 💪 great video!
the fan doesn t spin HHh and full of dust thank you Mister for yourcourses i ve learned so much keep inspiring us
Liked the video first and now watching it 👍👍👍
Thank you, master Sorin!!!!
Good job, it's funny, one of the biggest retailers of electronics in my country can't provide repairs beyond board swap, memory, ssd swap and some easy software jobs. They answer was it not profitable anymore. It's ok I guess it more jobs for small businesses in repair who are usually run by the repair technician itself.
Hi Sorin... like always good stuff.....Thanks
I am your big fan Sir!!! Great job!!!
They just moved the seal and then stick it back on. I used to do it a lot on my amature atempts. XD
Great video as always.
hi sorin love the simplicity of your videos ...very precise in your presentation for the layman like myself its fab .... step by step is the way to teach is why i watch your videos ... NO HIGH TECH TOOLS just basic is what i like ...im glad you are back with us ..and hope the family are ok ....
Thank you Sorin , keep up the good work . : - )
I bought a cat s60 just for his thermal camera and works great
Good Afternoon, first of all I thank you so much for all your videos and the knowledge you are spreading. I really wonder where your shop is located? Because I have a motherboard to repair. Thank you.
Great stuff by and old expert!
I retired left the industry, once the smart internet TV's surfaced, and we became board changers, I always said once we were board changers that would be me done. never mind we had the best times 60's70's,80's & 90's
Masterclass repair very good nice, thank you
Great job. You ARE a computer Doctor
I didn't watch it fully &I don't have any idea about what was the lap's fault, but whatever the guy does is great
He is supergreat in everything.........Sorin
That was fine work Sorin but I'd have to clean that cpu fan! :)
In my experience Curry's PC World are just retailers. They could be selling cans of drinks and packets of crisps or electronics with the level of expertise shown by staff in general, because the staff with whom I have interacted have no indepth knowledge of the products that they sell and don't appear to care what they re selling. Their ability to repair computers and peripherals appears to be limited to"switch it off and on again" followed by replacement under warranty. If the kit is out of warranty then there's no point in taking it back to the shop because a) they don't want to fix it and b) even if they wanted to fix it they don't know how and c) IF they decide to make a non-warranty repair available the my understanding is that the item will be sent to a third party repairer and their fee will be marked up and charged to the customer. It therefore saves time and money to go direct to the repairer, which leaves CPCW free to keep making money retailing without having to bother about pesky customers with pesky malfunctioning tech.
Sadly, too many people just bin it and buy another one. Talented repairers can fix stuff cheaper than new costs to get the full life from a product THEN buy a new one.
Sorin, nice repair!
good job mate.
awsome you are the best Sorin
Great job! The fan is full of dust. Desperately needs cleaning.
Excellent job
Hi sorin thanx for the videos can you please include desktops pc repairs on you videos i have a lot of motherboard all around the house with no post beep even after removing all the detachable hardwares i would like to lean more on that
Trouble is that Curry’s/PC world don’t repair right down to the SMD component level. They just test it within the scope of an hours job
it's good when you don't need a spare part. in my country more than half of the parts do not exist for sale
Hey, Sorin! I've been a huge fan for years now. Started following you when trying to repair my power problem on an Acer Nitro Black Edition... failed miserably. It's still laying in my closet somewhere. I do have an interesting one that I cannot figure out. I have a Surface Book 2. This has two mainboards and two batteries - one in the keyboard which hosts a Nvidia video card and charges the "tablet" when connected. Then - of course - the mainboard and battery in the tablet.
I can charge the tablet when directly connected to the charger, but it will not charge when connected to the keyboard. The keyboard does not work at all and seems to kill the tablet or drain it swiftly when connected. What is unique is this system runs on a 15v power rail, but I cannot follow it on the mainboard in the keyboard - it is VERY confusing.
Do you have any information I can use when troubleshooting this one, or have one handy that you can show us? This wasn't a cheap machine and it breaks my heart seeing it rendered useless. If anything, know any reputable shops in the Eastern U.S. that might be able to fix it without just trying to sell me a new mainboard, keyboard, or whole new computer?
If nothing, that's fine. I know it's hard to help everyone. Everything you do is always appreciated!
Master Sorin !

Hi Sr. Question. I have an iPhone 6s, the home button not works, I need it to enter in recovery mode. By the chance do you know what pin or pins can put on short to activate that step into recovery mode?
I saw a lot of your videos and I know you are an expert on this area.
When I compare Northridge Fix and you. You're both good, but north is a guy with ADHD probably too fast :-D here it's calm, chill and rest 🙂
What is this pen screwriver model ? Didnt find it in Tools vid.
Wow 😲 that was so first 😀, kudos to you.👍
Thank you so much for this vedio my linovo ideapad 110 is now working i just remove the capacitor and its ok now i use my digital multimeter heat sensor to look for the for the parts and its a capacitor also thank you so much..

I don't think that Lenovo wastes time and money putting a filter cap there for nothing. The laptop will still work, but with less protection against interferences
+1 The power supply might also be unstable if output (or input) capacitance is not the correct value. Stray from the manufactures' specs at your peril...
30 sec out of warranty I'll bet. The word shysters comes very easily to mind with my dealings with this lot.
Please Sorin tell me what power supply you have i mean the model, or how can i remove the protector from my power supply because i can't short the + and GND of my power supply, thank you very much
Did you replace the cap or just leave it off? If you left it off, won't that cause issues?
A great job. I am sure you are right about PC World
Curry's/PC World are pretty much the absolute worst at pretty much everything they do, except having shops and products in most of the large shopping malls. I went over with a friend 6 weeks ago, because a week or 2 earlier, they sold him a absolutely horrible WD Passport 2tb external drive, when he was wanting a 128 or 256gb thumb drive for ... media files to be transferred onto. The sales assistant told him that usb thumb drives would not allow movies to be transferred onto, he'd need a hdd type. That 2tb drive was 109€, a fairly decent 256gb sandisk thumb drive was about 50€ (both being very overpriced).
I actually did a Karen and asked for a manager when sales would not switch the items and refund the difference.
Long story short, he got the 256gb thumb drive, they got that 2tb passport back, and he got the refund.
Context: that Passport drive, was doing 33MB/s reads and 22MB/s writes.
More context - when I say 'media' or 'movies', I totally mean linux iso#s
In my shop, it's most likely I'd just replace the motherboard. I'm slowly getting into board level repairs, but my skills aren't currently enough to nail down an issue like this. I've worked in a lot of different computer repair shops and board level repairs aren't really a thing in any of them.
Most computer shops don't do component level troubleshooting. If it's not a bad screen, hard drive, or stick of ram, they probably won't fix it.
Sr. Sorin, because it happens to shake the screen tearing from time to time and after restarting the machine the image looks good, you can help me, sff?
That is right ✅ 👏 👌 they don't pay enough to get deep into the repair process
Cool as Always..
A bad capacitor was causing a short. Wow. A thermal camera would have helped (I think). I want to learn how to diagnose shorts like this :)
Capacitor em curto !!! Lenovo é campeão nesses reparos
Easy for you yes, you make it look easy :)
l love you sorin you are my hero
What about the dusty fan, no cleaning as an extra service?
good jop ....Greetings to you from Egypt
I don't think retailers such as Currys repair to component level, only to board level.
@dahlia dexter they change board only, not repair a component
@dahlia dexter
I mean they don't test or replace
individual discreet components such as resistors, caps, inductors, they simply replace the whole motherboard, or disk/cd drive, memory modules etc.

What qualifications do you need to be taken on there, out of curiosity?
I think Mr.Sorin living in his world and not knowing how they are. The companies he is talking about repairing, offering u to fix it with changing the mother board or changing the part, which costs too expensive to customers but for them, it is easy and fast and they are getting alot of money from that. The only thing they care is money, easy fast and expensive repairs mean more money. So they can do more customer jobs and get more money that is all. You can even check utube how the people are fixing things.. they are trying afew things and if he cant solve it fast, he is leaving and saying it is bussiness and lets try another one. That is all. So i think Mr.Sorin is the best in this way, and his knowledge, experience and customer care, he is doing great job. But only bad thing about him. Teaching is not his talent 😊
Normally iWatch 5times a week to Sorin but can’t believe it that you don’t make a nice repair with hot glue or rip off something where are you we mis you
hey, been electronic specialist since 2009, I find your channel very good for component error finding.
So thank you for great content, solid content!
I just have one question. How come you dont you solder in a new capacitor?
Presumably it had a function, and the one next to it will be extra stressed now that its running solo (probably just a noise reducing cap) but just removing it seems weird, although it fixed the immediate issue, how long until the one next to collapse?'
Regards
My question too. It needs to be replaced.
because he ripped it off from the board, so there is nothing to replace onto lmao
I'd like to know this too.
this is a less cost and time repair. HAHAHAHA. no need to order replacement.
Because there are two on the same rail. The other one can smooth the voltage just fine.
