Hi Jason, what if I would like to have multiple track at the same time as I am trying to show 2 languages, top and bottom, with both using different fonts. I have not been able to find a way to do that as I could only have 1 caption track showing each time. My current solution is to have 1caption track for English and text for other languages.

I am suffering from the same question too
Since I have successfully shown two languages subtitles (one top and one bottom) before … but suddenly today I realise I cannot show both at the same time, dont know how to solve the problem

Ran into the same issue today. Currently no solution for this, other than changing the font/attributes individually for each clip. There needs to be the ability to unhide when using multiple caption layers.

    Thanks Jason!
The Command+Option+C hotkey is really handy, however it would be super great if the newly added caption would be selected automatically, so that we can type immediately, rather rather than needing manually double-click it first.

I asked him to send treasures of a far more lasting kind! I asked that he be near you at the start of each new day; To grant you health and blessings and friends to share your way! Since you did the cool search function, it would be very effective to allow for "mark all" next to "replace all". Then, with this selection, I could change my 528 lines with an bracket to italics in one go.

This is such a great resource, thank you! I'm wondering if there is a simpler way to split subtitles; I imported and SRT file from a transcription service (Temi), and all the captions are two lines long. I need them to be a single line, and manually splitting them all is a really long process. I can't figure out a way to automate this though, any ideas?

In the previous version of Premiere Pro, I was able to add multiple captions and make them visible in order to have English/Spanish on screen. But in the latest version only one track of captioning is available.
This makes it hard for those of us who are working on making our videos accessible to multiple audiences. Please bring back the ability to have multiple tracks of captioning visible at the same time.
¿Does anyone have a solution for this issue?

Is there no feature to export captions to interpret the "in point" as TC 00: 00: 00 (ignoring leader and slate), since MP4s don't carry a timecode track? Professionally, we have leader / slates / 2-beep before the program. This means that timecode before the program needs to be in the 59th minute, so the program can start at TC 1: 00: 00: 00. The major problem is when we export unslated for web, MP4 files are assumed to start at 00, and the exported SRT wants to wait for the 1-hour mark. The only (clumsy) workarounds seem to be creating a duplicate of every master sequence with modified 00 timecode, or manually editing all the TC values in exported SRT files. I hoped the new captioning workflow had a solution.

Have you found a solution to this? I'm incredibly shocked that this wasn't taken into account and it's very very clumsy indeed trying to embed the .srt in an MP4 after Premier export.

it would be great if you find out how to create fade in and out to the subtitles, thumbs up!
    thanks for the video!
i've found this method from of a comment of another user in a video related to this topic, maybe u can be the first youtuber on try this and make the tutorial for us:
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    1) Duplicate your sequence and delete everything in that sequence except for the subs.
    2) Nest the subs (NEW SEQUENCE FROM CLIP).
    3) Insert your nested SUBS in your original sequence and make sure to place it above your footage in the hierarchy. (Also delete/hide your original subs as you don't need them anymore)
Now you can apply whatever effects you want as your subs are nested.

    • @jasonlevinevideo
      @jasonlevinevideo  3 роки тому +1

as mentioned, fades are not part of the captioning specs; so on the actual 'caption blocks', fades cannot be applied. Yes, if you nest a sequence of subtitles and embed them in another, you can apply a global fade in/fade out (or any other effect).

Great video. Please can you explain how to adjust the angle of the caption/sub title text. Adobe help staff say there is no such feature but I have seen people do it. So there must be some way to change the angle of the text like you can with the old legacy text that you can rotate the text. Where is this for captions or sub titles? Or do you need some sort of plug in to do it?Many Thanks.

This was really great. Excellent and easy to follow instruction. I ran into one problem. When I export .SRT sidecar file, even when I select to "Include SRT styling", the text style that I created does not appear. For example, I chose to have a background color for the captions, but it doesn't appear when I export the sidecar file. It only appears when I embed the captions in the video. What am I doing wrong?

    • @jasonlevinevideo
      @jasonlevinevideo  2 роки тому

Hey Stefani. Where are you uploading the SRT to? Some/many destinations do not support styling (they'll default to the caption standard). And even some that *do* support SRT styling will only support specific colors/options (largely for the text itself). I'm not sure if the background color option is a supported style in most (social media-type) destinations (unless you burn-in, as you described). Maybe I need a little more info...

Thanks Jason, very valuable and great that Adobe is doing these tuts. Captions has been frustrating for me and my translation team as there is a persistent bug (even in the new / current version) in handling italics applied to a single word. Eg if we load a track style, all the italics in the project disappear. There have been similar problems when importing and exporting SRTs. Should I get the beta edition to feed back to the engineers on this?

sure thing! re: musical symbols in subtitles... there are *some* fonts that will allow this; some do not. I'm not sure which, but I'd start with some of the standard ones. If you're on a mac, you can use the 'Show Emojis and Symbols' viewer to identify the keystroke that produces the musical note. I've used them (in a video or two) but can't remember which font it was.

Is it possible to export a video with two different closed captions, so that the viewer is able to choose?

Your timeline does not redline and stop playing any and all video, when you add a caption to the caption track. Mine does, why does it do that and how do I get it to stop? Adding one and a half minutes of captions has taken almost one and a half hours by now, because the caption entries grey out and the video won't play. It's not a resource issue, it seems.

Great tutorial, as always Jason! But.. I did hours of translating and then adding subs in a slightly older version of Premiere. 15.4.1 - This runs on a computer built in 2015 - the thing was a monster then and I've added another 16GB of RAM so.. anyway. I updated to the latest version of Premiere pro just now and it wrecked absolutely all of my work with the subs. I can't use it and have had to roll the version back. This is something that happens a bit too often. Stuff changes to make a nice transition work. Why is this?
Anyway, thanks for a fine video! :)

Hi. Great video! I didn't know this existed and I have already made all the subtitles with the option "Legacy Title" :/. Is there a way I can drag those into a subtitle track? Thanks in advance!

Heys! Any suggestions what's the most efficient workflow to have a mix of different styles for captions in one project? I already put hours in to make the captions and fix all the typos for multiple speakers, and just noticed that you can't have multiple subtitle tracks visible at the same time, or multiple styles per track.. :/
    A. Divide my speakers to different tracks with different styles -> render each version out with transparent background and blend all of them in to the final project?
    B. Export my captions and use some plugin to import them to AE for styling?
I know, I should have looked deeper into Pr captions before betting on it..

Ended up setting a track for each person and dividing captions to different tracks, then styling the tracks separately and exporting each version out as a Prores with alpha. This worked out pretty ok.

The "appearance" panel doesn't give me options to adjust size, background color, etc. Anyone know why?

Jason, I'm learning for much from you these days! THANK YOU for your knowledge, wisdom and experience!
QUESTION if I may? We have a VTT file from Zoom (30 fps) that I converted to SRT (30 fps) for uploading to Premiere Pro. We have a recording (mp4 - 25 fps) from that same Zoom meeting. When I import the mp4 and srt file into Premiere Pro they don't sync up at all. Even if I move a clip or two from the CC track to line up --- they don't sync everywhere ... because srt and mp4 are at different fps??? I don't know I am new ... can you point me to a resource person to help me with this?

Hi there. Yes, if the source video and (converted) source SRT aren't at the same frame rate, they simply won't line up. And 25/30 is just never going to sync via sliding a few frames...you'd have to adjust every caption segment manually (most likely; you might get lucky for a few in sequence). If you tried converting the (25fps) mp4 recording to 30fps, perhaps you'd have better luck. Might be worth a try.
