Many years ago, I got a cat at the local shelter. I was having a hard time finding a name that suited her until I realized I kept asking her "How's my baby?" So, that is how she got her name -- Baby. She never once meowed. Whenever she wanted to be let back in the house, she would knock on the door. One day, very early in the morning, after she had been "on vacation" for a few days, I heard a knock on my bedroom window. Baby was smart enough to know (a) I would not be able to her knock on the door at the other end of the house, and (b) that I would be in bed. Sadly, a few weeks later, she left for another "vacation" and never came home. She was a faithful companion for more than 10 years.
After Baby, I got a pair of 2-month-old kittens (sisters) from a co-worker. One was all black; the other had white toes. I tried to find names that went together. I finally settled on Puss and Boots. (Guess which one was Boots.) Puss passed at the age of 3 in my arms; and Boots at the age of 10. I have fond memories of the pair of them lying on my desk as I worked on my computer. Puss would sleep to one side of me; and Boots the other side -- I was the meat in a cat sandwich.
Within a month of Boots' passing, I went (again) to the local shelter and adopted Grrrl. She is quite good at knowing what time it is. Every evening around 10:00, she joins me on the couch -- often she can somehow hear me turn off my laptop. She has to make sure I do not forget her bedtime snack -- a handful of Whiskas Temptations treats. She has the softest fur I have ever felt on any of the many cats I have had during my 54 years in this world.

@@Sphendrana I'm not sure he didn't do it on purpose, honestly. Some of his other adventures included:
He was built like a bulldog that did weight training. One time we were trying to get him to the vet (always a rodeo) and my wife got him with both hands on his scruff. He dug into the carpet with all 4 paws and actually managed to pull a full grown adult woman half way across the living room.
We got a full grown black lab/mix. The dog was about 65 pounds. D.C. instantly HATED the dog with a white hot passion. The dog instantly LOVED the cat. The first time the dog came home, he ran up to the cat and licked him from head to tail, then just stood there being a goof. D.C. looked up, saw that this was a boy dog, and swatted him in the manhood (doghood?). The poor dog almost did a forward flip when he jumped.
The dog liked to sleep under the cat post. D.C. would jump off of the top and land on the dog at least twice a week, and that was a 16 pound cat from 5 feet up. They eventually got to be friends, and would curl up together to nap, but the kitty suplex from the top rope never stopped.
D.C. would forget to swallow when he was being petted. He would start to purr, and drool uncontrollably. Like, buckets of cat drool. Cute and gross at the same time.
He passed on years ago at 17. He was an awesome little guy,, and I still miss the fuzzy little jerk.

I was feeding some elusive feral cats at my dad's place while I was there taking care of him after surgery. I rarely saw more than one or two of the cats at a time and they always kept their distance, waiting to come up and eat until i'd put their food on the deck and gone back inside. I thought there were only two orange tabbies in the colony until January 2022 when I looked outside and saw 4 orange tabbies including a 3 or 4 month old kitten! I shook my head, mumbled "I must have lost my marbles!" before adding another can of cat food to the bowl and taking it outside. A couple days later my dad yelled out "Casey! Marbles is on the deck! He wants food!" I said "Pardon?" and Dad replied "That little orange kitten. I thought you said his name is Marbles and that you'd lost him. Well, he's on the deck right now and he looks hungry!" From that day forward his name was Marbles. By March he let us stay on the deck while he ate. In April he started aslking to be petted and rolling over for tummy rubs. On May 20, 2022 we picked Marbles up and brought him inside the house. He was my dad's best buddy, always at his side, sleeping with him every night and every nap, even riding on the seat of Dad's walker to keep him company while he did his walking for physio or even just to the bathroom and back to the living room, right up to the day Dad passed away. Marbles is the most incredible cat I've ever known. We now have Marbles, his littermate/sister Monsoon, their younger brother Pepper, the two surviving kittens (Yvie and Ru) from Monsoons first live litter as a feral born in April 2023 and Willow who was born in a litter of 4 that Monsoon had in my spare/quarantine room a month after we caught her in our live trap. I found homes for the other 3 (Bob, Bianca, and Katya) and now everyone is neutered and they have a forever home with me. They are far too tame to ever release and, since they're so tame, there's no need to release them.🧡🧡

When I worked as a vet tech we had a very fat (nearly 35lb) tuxedo cat come in for a first wellness. Sweet cat, purr like a jet engine, but so fat he couldn’t stand or sit for prolonged periods and he couldn’t lie on the table with his feet tucked under, so he just kinda belly flopped with his legs flopped out to the sides. Name: Shamu 😂
Owners were long time clients with 7 other cats and took immaculate care of all of them. They’d just adopted him. He’d been turned over to rescue by his elderly owner who doted on him and fed him tuna and half and half and kept forgetting if she’d fed him or not. Her health was failing and she was moving in with her daughter who was horribly allergic so he had to find a new home. Shamu was in pretty good shape considering. They put him on a diet and exercise regimen and while he remained a rather stout fellow he did slim down to about 20lbs over the next year and could at least move normally and clean himself properly.

I had a cat named Jack, after Jack the Ripper. He was a vicious ankle biter with very sharp claws as a kitten. After he became an adult however, he got very fat from trying to keep the food away from the other cats. So, he ended up with the nicknames Shamu the Land Whale and Moby Jack the Great Striped Whale. Eventually everybody needed prescription diets and we figured out a way to get him to slim down.

We have 2 fat males. Don't know their current weights. One JR (black cat) went out on a trip for a week, thought he was gone forever because he didn't do that kind of thing that long, and he came back with pillow paw. Unfortunately the only medication that work for him, also makes him feel like he's starving to death and makes him retain weight. The vet once us to portion control the dry, but for our situation and how many rescues we have, that isn't practical. He does get a very small portion of wet food because his sister has to have to for medication she needs (God seems to send us all the ones that need medical help......our wallets are about gone though) so of course he gets a taste, plus it helps his coat from the meds.
Our other guy, Duke (white with gray patches) he is genetically born to be chubby. He's a tamed wild cat and we kept them all fed, but his Dad was naturally chubby, even though we know he was getting over fed........then add to that he seems to identify as a dog and likes to eat their food. Which we are currently working on

One of the funniest cat names I ever saw was simply '#10'
    Yes, the number 10.
It came down to situation. We went to an asian restaraunt many, many years ago and saw a mostly black on black tabby striped cat wandering around the dining area. Didn't think much of it and perused the menus. Since we westerners make absolute hash out of asian words most of the menus have numbers. Under main courses there were items 1 thru 9, 11-35. Again, it looked like a typo as item 9 was at the bottom of a row.
But one of the people at the table asked "Where's this tenth item, what is it?"
In broken english the waiter said: "Oh, ten not dish for customer." Like... huh?
    "Why?"
The waiter just shrugged and took our orders.
Some minutes later one of our party started laughing hysterically. She had managed to catch the (very social) cat and was petting it. She held up the nametag on its collar: '#10' in the same typefont that was on the menu.
I guess you can get around no animals in restaurants if it's a potential dish...

When we learned more of her personality, we decided it was short for iHop Decaf, because we ordered decaf at an iHop at 11pm, and were bouncing around the house until 4 😂.
