So, glad to see Michael and Tom doing this. Smallville was a big deal to me. I had just moved away from my family, and it sort of gave me a new family in a way. I am a huge Superman and Origin story fan, so Smallville was perfect. Broke my heart to see it end.
Exactly, I grew up watching it for so many years. I was more of a Superman after I watched it because I have never seen anything like that, usually it was when he was already the man of steel. Those were good too but Smallville was fresh and new and I was instantly a fan when it came out in October 16, 2001. At that time we just moved to Illinois and we me and my brothers and mom and dad were living at my Aunt and Uncle's and cousins house at the time and we would all gather around the tv watching Smallville. That made it more memorable because I was watching it with my family. We knew it was on when everyone gathered around the tv in evening and we were like cool, Smallville is on. It had a big impact on my life. I have all ten seasons on dvd.

I loved seeing Clark trying to figure out how to use his powers. Great metaphors for just growing up, instantly relatable.

yeah, my problem was at Church, not school. The song book or a bible never left my lap. Puberty sucks when you are in a super religious family and no one tells you in advance, in the 1980's when the internet wasn't invented yet. Sex Ed in school was a year or so AFTER puberty hit, so bad timing. It was Alabama so can't really expect much. It has gotten worse since the 80's. At least we learned all the stuff beyond just abstinence.
I picked a really good time to start watching Smallville for the first time
What I love about the very early seasons of smallville was that even if it wasn’t a show about Superman it was still a solid show about a teenager trying to navigate through high school while also trying to deal with the fact he’s an alien who wants to be normal at the same time if I was someone who had no idea who Superman is this show would still be a masterpiece
I hope they talk about how certain actors play multiple characters through out the series

I only remember Shawn Ashmore played the kid who stole Clarks powers in season 1 and his identical twin, Aaron Ashmore played Jimmy Olsen later on. Different actors with the same face lol.
Tom turned 46 today and he's still handsome... it's like wine, the older the better❤❤❤
One of the brilliant things by Al, Miles, and the writers: make the emergence of his powers coincide with adolescent life to make it relatable.

I was a hardcore Smallville fan back in the day; it was appointment TV.
I hope Michael and Tom dissect the episode where Clark was on Silver K which made him paranoid and menacing. That episode had me howling. He had that murderous gleem in his eye chasing Lana and wiped the floor with Lex. One of my favorite episodes. Jealous Clark was also entertaining as heck!!😳😂❤️💯
I also hope they talk about when Clark was under influence of red kryptonite. Mischievous rebel Clark was fun to watch.

Yea no she wasn't even attracted to lx and she couldn't deny it. I also love lois chasing after him and later what does she have that I don't? That's me.
I am sure at some point they will mention the episode where Clark gets heat vision and how it was connected to his libido.

I don't understand what tom and mike don't get about clark's weight. Clark jumped onto the machinery and jonathan fell on top of him. The point is to show clark's skin was impenetrable. The surface area of the gym floor would be able to absorb clark's weight because it was flat. The machinery was pointy.
I was looking for this comment before i said it. His weight is still just his weight when falling without anything else acting on his decent speed.
@@Robby_Rob Lol, I'm not a physicist or anything it's just seems like common sense. Not to say that superman doesn't have some strange physics going on. Like how does Clark catch a speeding car but doesn't move backwards? Or how does Clark speed away so fast no one sees him but not fast enough to break the sound barrier for them to hear him?
@@cmac369 . I agree The machinery being bent makes sense, his body has give,just a limited amount of give. The points on the machinery could potentially bend, but it’s really just a scene to show off his indestructibility so it just has to make enough sense, not complete sense. He’s probably around the weight of a normal human, so the gym floor shouldn’t have cratered unless some how thrown into the floor with enough force.
I guess the car one (where he doesn’t move backwards) could be a manifestation of the same ability that gives him flight later on. Of course none of his powers make any real sense if you think about it physically, but it’s the suspension of disbelief. The better question would be how would he generate leverage to pick up a car otherwise heavy object from an edge. The car would bend and break and regardless his strength, it would be difficult to do without some other powers.
The speeding away is another good example you brought up. AtLeast with characters like the flash, you can chalk it up to his powers, but superman just runs really fast, pushing air out of the way, which they use to good effect sometimes, so it can be inconsistent.
I believe he was subsonic for much of the series, but the speed at which he would appear as a blur would be impacted by distance, the closer he is the slower he could go.
It just needs to be believable enough for your suspension of disbelief and keep it relatively consistent.
@@robertt9342 I'm not a science expert. But another factor one could consider is core strength as far his ability to catch something which weighs more than him.

I feel like you can excuse stuff like "why didn't he fall through the floor here?" in universe. Clark does have the ability to fly, he floated in the second bloody episode, he just had a mental block about it. In scenarios like this though, maybe he is subconsciously using his flight just enough to make his fall gentle enough to not smash the floor?
I don’t think he should fall through the floor. He’s not that heavy, and there’s no force besides gravity taking him to the floor.
I’ve never thought about this before and I sort of agree with you but it’s probably more of if Clark’s reflex is to stiffen before he hits, his brace would punch through the floor in certain spots
@@aaronfarrell6484 oh man, that would happen for sure. There just isn't really a way to hide that kind of insane strength. If he fell asleep a bit in class and his body did that thing where it like sends a pulse through you to make ur legs jerk to keep you awake, he would totally just twitch kick his desk through the earths core.
@@aaronfarrell6484 hmmm… yes I suppose that’s possible. But it would have the be both strength and SPEED. Strength alone he would just be doing a push up , or hand stand, like anyone else. But with super speed yeah he would definitely be doing a big dent.
@@AlexxxPerales If he was falling from the rope while he braced, it would have the speed and strength to destroy the whole floor. But I bet clark didn't brace because he has never felt pain in his life so falling from that distance would not hurt him, it would probably feel like a regular human falling onto a soft bed.

The show was really good at coming up with new ways to depict the powers. I think of the x-ray here, but especially the heat vision and flight. Also he gets a boner when he shoots his heat vision wad and that was great.
Kristin seems to always come up on this show…well yeah she the leading lady…lol
