    Great explanation! I think that the "voicing" exercise you talk about is really important! Sometimes when I can't quite get an altissimo note, I just sing it, and then immediately put the horn to my mouth and play it, which usually works for me! I'm a little surprised you didn't mention working on the overtone series, though. My previous teachers have taught me that working on overtones is central to the development of throat muscles that help you "voice"" things a little better! Perhaps the topic of a future video, haha. Great explanation, nevertheless!

      +insaneintherainmusic its amazing how easy it gets when you can voice. Sometimes I dno't event finger the note I want but because I voice it correctly, it comes out! I had so many points I wanted to cover thatI overlooked working on overtones, so I'll include that in a future video for sure. Thanks buddy! :)

      +Music By Pedro No problem! I think I'm gonna pull out my horn in a few and see if your fingerings work for me... altissimo is fun!

      +insaneintherainmusic dh totally. Alto and Tenor fingerlings are different. I think G will be fine. And for "A" on tenor doing 2,3 on the left hand, and 1,2,3 on the right hand, plus the octave key will pop that A no problem on tenor. :)

      Music By Pedro Hey, how would you put subtitles in Portuguese-BR in their videos "how to"? I follow his work a long time but do not understand much, why do not speak English.

    Hey Pedro, you are the only online guy who was able to help me get some of those top notes straight away! They are not the best but I'm able to get them most of the time. Thank you so much.

    • @musicbypedro

      Awesome. Don't do it just to prove him wrong. He may have said don't bother cause it will take a lot of time and effort. Hope it goes well.

    I have tried altissimo for a while but I feel like it is something not meant to be...at least not, for a while.
    In the meanwhile, I have been working on overtones, but even there is a struggle. I can do fundamental (haha, of course), first overtone, and then 2nd overtone...but things get really weird between 2nd overtone and 3rd overtone. I can usually go from 1st overtone straight to 3rd overtone, or 1st overtone to 2nd overtone, but not from 2nd to 3rd.
    (and I haven't been able to do anything above 3rd overtone.)
    then again, I do have relatively soft (2.5) reeds, so I'll think about moving up to 3.

    Hi Pedro, thanks again for the video. Do you have a copy of the fingering chart? - the download in your link doesn't seem to work anymore.

    Hey Pedro, I'm in 11th grade and currently looking to switch from bass clarinet to tenor sax, I've been playing a school loaned alto to get the new fingering down (I'm pretty confident now after a couple months) and am now in the market for a tenor sax. It is VERY intimidating looking through countless brands of tenors. Any recommendation on a good student tenor sax? One that would stick up to the hell that is marching band and have decent sound, that'd be awesome. I love your videos, and you have single handily made me want to play the sax. I hope to hear more amazing covers in the future. Thanks!

    • @musicbypedro
      @musicbypedro  9 років тому

      +De Synthed Hi. Thanks for your message. As far as a good brand that can hold to the rigorous activity of marching band (which I was in when I was in school), I'd have to say Yamaha, Keilwerth, Cannonball, Jupiter, P. Mauriat, and Selmer (which make Jupiter among others). Thanks for the nice words, and best of luck! :)

    Hey Pedro please answer. Which mouthpiece would be better? 6m Meyer or 7m Meyer?

    • @musicbypedro
      @musicbypedro  9 років тому

      +John Rubio If you haven't purchased any jazz mouthpiece then i'd recommend the 5m for starting. It is a different feel than the traditional stock mouthpiece. I think the Meyer 6m or 7m would be good afterwards. The bigger number indicates a larger chamber and larger tip opening. Start with the 5m and then decide after a year or so of playing it.
