I brought my 2018 Highlander from Enterprise Leasing in 2021. Had 35,600 miles when purchase. I love the way this car handles. Its a really solid vehicle. Pleased with this purchase.
You neglected to mention one of the most significant reasons for choosing the Highlander, Toyota long term reliability. More than 85% of all Toyotas 20 years old, are still on the road. Can't say the same for Mazda, German competitors, GM and the others.
@@Powernoodle_ For me, it was among my top reasons for choosing the Toyota Highlander. The others were its well thought out design, including seating, cup-holders, USB ports, visibility, resale value, thrifty fuel mileage for a 4500 lb vehicle and the ability to tow 5,000 lbs safely.
Gotta love those Toyotas! My son is driving a 2003 Corolla and it runs like a charm. I have a ‘13 Accord EXL which i really like. But now shopping for a Crossover it has come down to the Highlander or the Pilot. Everyone else has fallen off the list. Maybe in a year or two I can snag me a gently used one, or the other.
@@psuave1210 For me, after a lot of research, I just preferred the Highlander over the Pilot for a number of reasons, but the BIG one was that overall, Toyota makes a better, more reliable automatic transmission for longevity.
Black plastic on the wheel wells is not just for off-roading. Manufacturers found that area get a lot of rock chips and other debris resulting rust to develop over a period of time. This is why the plastic is there in most modern vehicles.
We were in the mid-size w/ 3 rows market and after about a year of research narrowed it down to these options: Toyota Highlander Mazda CX-9 Mitsubishi Outlander Cars we immediately ruled out: Subaru Ascent, any Chevy/Ford/Dodge product. We eventually settled on the Toyota Highlander. We just wanted the most trouble-free ownership and that's what the Highlander gives you. The CX-9 was definitely the sexiest option but after hearing a friend of ours' experience with them always taking it back to the dealership for fixing things that was the deal-breaker. I am really enjoying the highlander and the fact that there is no exhaust/burning oil smell coming into the cabin when idling at traffic stops, like our old Subaru. Just lovely.
@@SME5724 although I will say that since we bought ours in 22 it has had a small coolant leak that Toyota can’t find but the same problem has stayed with it into 23 with the 4cyl turbo
The 3rd row is fine except for the headroom. This won't change until the platform changes. If you are spending over 40K you might as well get the Hybrid. The resale on the Hybrid's is insane.
I have one (except with 2nd row captain's chairs). Everything I need for a city vehicle: looks fine, very dependable, gas milage fine, utilitarian and drives well. Wish the non-JBL audio was better but that can be fixed.
This review couldn't have been any more low-life than this without losing his credibility. From first minute I got it that the reviewer is not a fan of this car. It shouldn't be the case. Best reviews are great with just the facts and general suggestions, but not with such low energy demotivating way. Btw I dont own this car or any of Toyota cars, just an objective viewer comment.
Just got 2018 highlander limited Platinum AWD. Front seats are horribly uncomfortable. Seat bottom cushion are way too thin feels like sitting on piece of ply wood. After driving for three weeks my leg gets numb even driving for about fifteen minutes. Called Totoya to report. Paid over 50k expected Toyota would more do to make seats more cushion.
The minute this guy say.. you can shift to S for sport mode I don’t know. Well, clearly you don’t shit about the car why even make a review video bashing something you didn’t clearly research. And what did he recommend? A FORD but throw in CX9 so it doesn’t sound too obvious. If Explorer is a great suv there is no need for your recommendation.
Unfortunately, no. I have a fully loaded Limited Platinum, Hybrid Highlander, and it doesn’t have that option. Toyota builds a great car, but it’s lacking in infotainment systems and other in-car entertainment. But it’s very comfortable and reliable.
Go to your wireless provider and buy a $50 Hot Spot with a 12 volt charger. I put one in my Tundra 2 years ago and have never had an issue connecting to internet even as we travel 75 miles an hour down the road. Plus you can remove it from the car anytime you need to take it with you. I use Verizon and it cost me $10 a month to have it.
i have a 2018 with 5000 miles it has leaked oil since i brought it home this week dealer toyota of lacrosse wi had the motor OUT relaced all gaskets and o rings WTF they would not take it back or trade me for a new one witch is what i wanted am i stuck with this new xle highlander???
Excellent Reviews. 👍 Just Bought one last month from SunTOYOTA. Excellent Ride, Comfortable, safe and reliable. 🚘 That Passenger side shelf in the front is Very Useful and handy.👌
What a stupid completely biased review. I am thinking of buying one of these because they are incredibly comfortable, reliable, safe, and roomie. Although every vehicle has its downsides, he just turns this into a Mazda commercial.
This review is so frustrating because the Highlander Hybrid gets by far the best gas mileage in class. The hybrid is hardly talked about yet the poor gas mileage is repeated over and over again. The hybrid is exceptional. Almost 5000lbs 7/8 seats all with nearly 30 miles per gallon. If that's not impressive I dont know what is.
Toyota vehicles sale all over the world but have different names...And some with different characteristics because American standards are often different. An example of this is Toyota 4runner here in the US are called the Helix in the Carribean with a diesel engine.
How about we normalize these reviewers saying how tall they are. Im 6'4, these reviews are great until i go to test one and my heads against the roof and i cant drive it
They are both good vehicles. I have a 2018 highlander limited and it’s beautiful inside and out. But we just went on a vacation and rented a 2018 Ford Explorer. I will tell you this. The ONLY thing I think the explorer my have the upper hand is on the third row seat. It’s about two to three inches more of leg room, however, the second row is a bit closer to the first row which might also help with the additional room in the third row. Other than that the Highlander is a much better overall experience.
I really want the Toyota reliability, really thinking about the highlander, but omg! These vehicles look so vanilla! I hate the way they look..... Wish I got the aggressive modern look of the traverse and reliability of Toyota
I really like the new Ford Explorer they are huge and great comfort, but I have owned too many fords with too many issues. My Toyotas have given me zero issues. NONE for 32 years none. I really like the New Lincoln Navigator but I want something that I can rely on and Ford products have proven that they are not the most reliable products on the road.
3rd row horrible n you feel closterfobic in the forced seating position with no room for your Johnny to ham comfortable. Most taxi in NYC drive these n they are not sporty ar all. I hate bucket seats this has. Anytime a taxi gets me in this I call the dispatch to send a different car
So when taxi dispatcher sends you a highlander you call back and request for another SUV that has a better 3rd row sitting??? I mean you could seat on the 2nd row..... just saying.

A+ on that. Long-term reliability is the #1 reason for choosing Toyota.

Very reliable car, had it for years and still works good as new
All that said, this vehicle will have a better resale value after 5 years than any Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Jeep, Mazda or Honda SUV.
