Oh that was so fun Leanne. The scenery was just glorious. Love your Zweig sweater, it’s such a cool knit. Thanks for the joy and giggles and the really emotional ending with that crochet prayer piece 😱 so unbelievably special. I had tears in my eyes and it has nothing to do with me, so I can’t even begin to imagine how you must feel about that. How lovely your cousin (sister) passed this on to you. Safe travels and see you on the next episode, thanks for the fun, Karen 🥰

That Lord's Prayer by your grandmother is a masterpiece; what a treasure for you. I love the hashtag for the year. I'm like you and have all my yarn photographed and in Ravelry. I've exported and am now digging around in the spreadsheet, getting some totals going. Fun! (Oh, and I'm working backward through the episodes. I think you missed a few FOs from this episode in your 2022 roundup!)

As an ex-serial Canadian Traveler and current Kelownite (moved here a couple years ago), happy you made your way here ☺️. Practically drool and throw my credit card down every time I go into Art of Yarn. Our other LYS, Kelowna Yarn and Needlecraft is also fantastic - less unique yarns but some more workhorse options and I find the clerks so helpful. I feel spoiled to have them both here.
Love your knitting and revisiting so many Canadian cities through your podcast ❤️

My cousin said we could stop but I was convinced this episode was going to be ridiculously long and thought I’d save it for another time!

So lovely to see you again Leanne and thank you for another really interesting and enjoyable episode. I live in Norwich UK and i really love this worldwide knitting community. What a masterpiece your grandmother made and i can understand how emotional it must have made you feel. I have found great comfort in knitting and watching friends i have never met talking and showing on their podcasts their knitting endeavours. I lost my husband in October of last year to a dreadful blood cancer called Myeloma and it has helped me so much to connect with knitting friends. I love your Zweig and have to admit to making four of them, all very different. They always look so beautiful using a special skein of yarn in the lacework. The fit i have found is always perfect. Thank you so much for the time you take to make your podcasts x

Sharon I have saved replying to your message for last as I wanted to offer my deep condolences. My dad passed in 2013 from blood cancer and it was so very heartbreaking. I love how knitting (and the community) can fill our hearts when we ache. I am so thrilled to know that 4 Zweigs in and you say they are always perfect! I LOVE THAT INFO because I haven’t taken this thing off! I’ll wear it threadbare and make another.

What a fun podcast! The crocheted LORD PRAYER panel!! Omgosh! Almost started crying!! What a family heirloom! Loved the Kelowna scenery! I was there in the 80s! Used to be tons of apple orchards when traveled through! Wine now huh? Loved your FOs! That sweater is gorgeous. But I laughed outloud when I saw that mouse!! Sometimes that happens! 🙂 Also, I just wanted to say my vow to myself this year is to only work from my stash! I don't think I could even attempt to calculate all the grams, though! I'm in southern Ontario, but during covid I found Art of Yarn and ordered from them many times (🙄😬)...they were always so helpful. After a lot of gift knitting in 2022, and now knitting for my twin grandchildren's upcoming birthday, I am giving myself this year to knit for myself 😄😊. Although I'd like to do a pair of socks per month to put aside for Christmas gifts. That's the plan! I wasn't going to knit for little Rowan and Everett, but I just had to crochet a poncho for Rowan, and now I'm halfway thru the Ingrid Junior for Everett

Oh wow, I have never heard of CamijoKnit Design, but I am RUNNING to her UA-cam channel to investigate! I love the #bustingmyballs2023 idea. Leanne, the end really brought tears to my eyes 😢
It is always special to own such a unique heritage piece.
I have a linen nightgown in my closet with embroideries my Grandma made when she was a young woman. My dear Auntie Ria gave it to me before she passed away at the age of 102. Bless her!
It was interesting to hear that your Grandma Erna (I love your English pronunciation 🤩) was from Germany, because the technique she used to crochet this wonderful piece was quite popular in Germany.
Do you know when and where you Granny was born?
    I am just curious 🤷‍♀️

Happy Year of the Rabbit! Everything you featured is an inspiration. Your grandmother’s crocheted LP is lovely. Is it Tunisian crochet? Speaking of crochet, it might help you to bust your balls or slay your skeins: crochet uses way more yarn than knitting. Like three times more for the equivalent fabric in knitting. [don’t make me Google it please]. When you catalog and weigh your stash do you find some brands are underweight? I have found Rowan to be short a gram or fifteen too often. Gotta dash- tiny reindeer are calling me! Thank you 🙏🏼💜🙏🏼

      @theknittystew  Рік тому

I was going to Google that about what year it is - the Rabbit hey. Ok! I literally need to learn to crochet you are right. And I took a class once and learned how much more yarn it required and it was one of the reasons I didn’t stick to it. People are telling me my Grandmas tapestry is Fillet. I just know it’s beautiful 😻

Hello, it's funny, because this year I've decided to knit from my stash and try to not buy yarn... I have a lot, and I feel joy to do so... I'm knitting Zakkuri cardigan by Noriko Ichikawa in Gilliatt from De Rerum Natura : a so enjoyable knit (Gilliatt is my favorite yarn, I'm e French knitter, so easy to buy it). And I am finishing chestnut sweater by Petiteknit, less enjoyable, but I love the finish object it will become... I've decided this year to do things in acceptation with what I am... I will open a disability file, a hard thing to do, but I have 2 chronic diseases, I can't work, and I need a sort of recognition of my handicap : invisible handicap, but pain every day. In France it's a big mess to have recognition, but now I'm ready... et voilà ! And my father's family was polish too... very proud of it ! Thank you so much Leanne, for this sweet moment 🧡🧡🧡

Always great to see when you have a new episode. All lovely makes, and such a great family connection to that have special family heirloom through your cousin. I'm knitting on a bulky-weight pair of World's Simplest Mittens in Malabrigo Chunky because I'm also doing my own personal stash-down, also focused on # of grams used up. I was originally planning a goal of 2.5 kg, but then decided to up this to 5.0 kg of stash reduced. I think 2.5 kg may be realistic for potential knitting output but then when I factor in some potential destashing, I hope to get to 5 kg. But then I had a significant # of acquisitions this week which, according to my self-made rules, will count against my amount knitted/destashed. But it was to support my local LYS (Baaad Rabbit in New Westminster, BC) and its lovely owner who hosts twice-weekly knit socials and is a wonderful help with projects and all-round lovely human. Plus she's hosting a Pressed Flowers KAL and I've been wanting to knit that for ages ... tried to knit from stash but it seemed I just had sweater quantities that I didn't want to break up or single skeins that weren't enough. **Anyway** we'll see how it goes, but I love your hashtag, so will aim to post updates of my progress.

Wow, Leanne, that Zweig is a masterpiece- that gold Arcane Fibre is amazing. Adding this to my endlessly long queue. I have that same lovely white yarn from Manitoba- gonna look up that pattern- such squishy lovely yarn. And that reindeer- eeeeee- so cute. So nice to see pictures of Kelowna. My youngest daughter, my ex- husband and my best friend all live in Kelowna, so I visit often (I live nearby in Kamloops). The beaches on Okanagan Lake are amazing. My kids love visiting the wineries and breweries. I come along and generally keep an eye on the grandkids for them. Art of Yarn is a great little shop and since Kamloops lost its last yarn shop during COVID, I drop by regularly. I also discovered another great yarn store called Kelowna Yarn and Needle Crafts, when Art of Yarn did not have bamboo sock yarn and my son-in-law wanted bamboo socks for his California lifestyle. I had to knit it double, as it was so thin I didn’t have needles small enough to get gauge. Hope he likes them. I too am trying to knit from stash and actually make myself a few sweaters. I am mainly a gift knitter, but have accumulated some sweater quantities of lovely yarns and am making time for me in the New Year. I am making progress on my Elton which I started in September and set a challenge to knit a stripe each morning when the light is good as I am knitting black lace weight mohair -yikes. My New Years cast on was my Let’s Lento in the KAL with Amy and Rebecca. I think it also qualifies for the Bougie Sweater KAL, although your weekender looks like it will be amazing. Next month, I hope to make the Felix cardigan with the It’s A Sarah Felix KAL- I have wanted to make both these sweaters for a long time, so the KALS have spurred me on. That gift from your cousin is a true heirloom. Imagine the hours and hours your grandmother spent making that work of art in a second language too. How wonderful that your grandmother’s legacy continues with the different artistic ventures of her grandchildren - like making fancy egg collecting baskets with NUTIDEN,!!! For chickens who have curtains in their coop. I have a young friend who has a similar chicken mansion for her terrific egg layers. Lol! Thanks for another great episode, Leanne! I hope to run into you in the skies one day! Actually, I think we may have met one time several years ago when I was traveling to or from Toronto or Ottawa. I was knitting (of course) and this pretty young flight attendant with dark hair came by and struck up a conversation. Of course, you weren’t the Knitty Stew back then, so I had no idea I could now say, I knew you when….😉🤪🤭

Dear Leanne, Happy New Year, so glad to catch up with you again!! Thank you , as always, for sharing and inspiring us. I know, for sure, that the crafty members of my family got their talents from my maternal grandmother; she had many gifts. Ironically, there is quite a number of those beautiful filet crochet pieces in my family. In fact, I do believe we have a similar Lords Prayer piece made by my grandma or great-grandma amongst us. Each of us recieved a framed piece of our Sir name before my grandmas passing and I now have the charts to carry on the tradition. Stash knitting in 2023 is a goal for sure!! Take Care !! Lori ✨♥🤗✈

Hey Leanne, nice to see you this morning. Whenever I see your podcast I get homesick. I live in Michigan, but was born in Edmonton and grew up there as well as Vancouver and
Toronto. I have one kid in Toronto, one in Winnipeg as well as siblings in North Van and Westbank, so I spend part of my year running around Canada. Luckily my work let’s me work out of country for 7 weeks a year. I am an avid (possibly rabid) knitter, sewist, weaver etc. and voracious traveler. I am going to Denmark for a natural dyeing workshop in June and so will be also going to Italy, Norway and Sweden. You know there will be no yarn diet there. I am making the Ciorcle right now. It is just miles and miles of 2x2 rib. OMG it goes on forever. Next is the Twist_Loop_Sweater by Other Loops (I don’t think it’s on Ravelry) and along with that, I have to figure out the Bougie Sweatshirt. I am thinking a hoodie. We shall see. The crochet Lord’s Prayer is so lovely. And so nice that you wound up with it. Safe travels. I will say that being a knitter I never care when there is the inevitable delay or cancellation of a flight. I actually like it. Also, I kind of have flight amnesia. So when I am on a long flight across Canada or to Europe I never really remember it. It’s like I kind of go into a trance (no medications involved) and when I land I have no recollection of the flight. Not sure what that is all about, but I will take it!

    • @theknittystew
      @theknittystew  Рік тому

Hi Cydney! I was also born in Edmonton! We moved to Calgary before I was 2, but still. 😊 wow… your projects are epic, and speaking of epic your upcoming travels sound soooo amazing. I’ve dabbled in the natural dyeing and it’s pretty incredible what we can do without acid dyes.
That flight amnesia is quite fascinating to me. 🤔

I thoroughly enjoy your podcasts. I really hate to burst a bubble. I love working with Malabrigo, so far only Rios. I swore that merino was a wool that I could wear.. I wore a little undercoat scarf and after a few minutes I was itchy as could be. The ties on a matching bonnet style hat are now knit from pima cotton so that I can keep my ears covered. I'm nor sure how or if I can adapt the scarf. I am fine with the pima cotton scarf though the colors are not a very good match. The crochet piece from your Grandmother is a true treasure. In the 1950's, 60's and 70"s through newspapers there were patterns available for purchase for the Lord's Prayer and the 23rd Psalm. Reading the language would only be helpful for proof reading. You use the graph technique probably for your yoke pattern on that beautiful sweater you were wearing. Crochet pieces like that work the same, row by row, to get the total design. Keep the podcasts coming!

It is great to be mindful and intentional about buying in all areas of life, but all the beautiful yarns and fibers… I am working on my self imposed to do list. Some baby blankets as my coworkers just don’t quit making babies, others are retiring or seeking greener pastures. I love a good guess about what they would like and then surprise them with a shawl/scarf or a hat. I am now knitting a Bark Lines shawl by Joji Locatelli in 2 strands of Manos del Uruguay Marine in Arboretum. Lovely texture and it feels wonderful.
I am looking forward to your next adventure!

Hi Leanne, It was so great to discover you had posted your Vlodcast for the new year. I knew when you shared the yoke on the previous episode that it was going to be stunning and it was stellar! I love that sweater pattern over all other colorwork patterns out there and eventually I'd like to knit it. I have yet to do a colorwork in my knitting so yours is one that is speaking to me! The charcoal combined with the orange is sublime!!!! I am currently knitting 3 wips- baby sweater gift, #2 sock from my 1st set of socks which are turning out so cute, and a nice sweater for my oldest son. Once I'm done with these I am also turning my attention to knitting whatever I want for myself. I have some beautiful sweater quantities in my stash so want to get cracking on them before I'm pushing up daisies!!!! Absolutely loved your sentimental Lord's Prayer hanging that your grandmother had. Not only is it exquisite but it captures the holy spirit of Jesus ministry on earth. Precious! Your cousin was so sweet to pass it along to you. What a generous person she is. She knew how much it would mean to you. Can't wait for your next episode!!!!! Stay safe please!
With best wishes and lots of gratitude for your encouragement, Carrie

Such fun to see you again. Your basket is sweet and your grandmother’s work is a treasure. It looks flawless. You must try the mouse again. So many podcasters are into stash busting but you have the best hashtag.
I’m knitting Mount Pearl by Jennifer Beale. It is intense but so much fun. Fascinating construction. All the best for 2023.

It's so lovely to see you back, I love your Zweig sweater; I must say I'm tempted. I'm currently working on the Lento sweater. I'm not doing mine cropped and I've been brave and knit it a size smaller than I would normally. I lost 28lbs last year and now a lot of my sweaters and cardigans are a bit big. I've even decided to frog a couple of them and reknit a size or two smaller!! Ah well, it'll keep me busy!!!

Hi Jan! I can see another Zweig in my future. Happy knitting or re-knitting as the case may be. It’s interesting that when I have dropped weight in the past it always disappears from my top half never my bottom!

So I’m not the only one.
I’ve knitted Dot Pebble’s rabbit- well one of the many she offers- and I love it.
So I proceeded to knit her penguin with intention to knit a sweater because, really. This would go to my adult daughters who loves penguins. So much so they traveled from US to South America to see.
Well it is now a pelt-ish mess.
Also I must join this busting balls thing. Because this hashtag is too good to pass up. Also I have too many single skeins.

That crochet Lord’s Prayer was just so stunning and such a treasure. What a blessing!
I might try to find a stash busting buddy by sharing your video. Otherwise, I’ll just join you.

What a beautiful momemto that your cousin gave you! It is something that will always give you pleasure, just knowing that your Grandma spent so much time, effort, and talent into something that can be passed down from generation to generation. Leanne, what an amazing pod cast…. I so enjoyed every minute. It will be so nice to see how you eventually display your grandmothers handiwork. What a treasure…. I live in the US but our daughter went to St FX, had an amazing experience there and we were able to do quite a bit of Canadian sight seeing so I love traveling with you. Thank you.

Love the colours of your Zweig! It's still on my queue (but I'm doing another no buy year to finish my 22 or so WIPs). I used to be a monogamous knitter until I joined a knitting guild and saw all shiny new thing!

What an exquisite piece of needlework…and a treasured gift.
I hook rugs, most of which end up on my walls instead of the floor. I use a stretched Artist canvas the appropriate size. Cover the stretched canvas with a layer of batting, and then cover the batting with an appropriate fabric. I carefully whip stitch the completed rug to the covered canvas. The weight of the rug is evenly distributed on the canvas. Maybe this is an idea for framing your beautiful stitch Lord’s Prayer.
