charlie is an amazingly well written character.cautious basically a fish out of water when he arrives with bill.he is part of the world we rarely see in the series he is an old plainsman.however the town wields an odd spell on him he resists but gradually likes living there instead of by his wagons on the plains.yet and deliberately done fleetingly by the writers there is another charlie.when bulloch and the dog soldier fight we see the real charlie.he stops looks round warily pulls out his winchester and is all business.he tells just by looking at the cheyennes pony what kind of man he was. we get the impression he is a completely different man when in the simplicity of the wilderness.when he wreaks righteous wrath on woolcote when everyone else for the safety of the camp has looked the other way he does it because its right.joanie sees it when the hearst agitators try to break up the voting.she says i see why mr hickock chose mr utter to be his friend.charlie isnt the toughest but he is fearless in his resolve and of all the characters incredibly loyal.great portrayal.there are hidden barely seen depths to him.
I dont think Ive ever loved a series as much as I love deadwood.I cant stop watching it,many nights I stay up till 5-6am cause I cant stop watching it.
"You're a keen fuckin' student of the human scene Charlie" "And you're not only a pain in the balls Charlie, but the strangest fuckin' human being I ever met" Absolutely fucking precious.
Sucks that Jane and Charlie were two of the best, most genuinely good people in the series, yet they couldn't get along at all. Jane's alcoholism and attitude had a lot to do with it, but Charlie's inability to understand how to deal with people didn't help. Still, she was way too harsh on him here and elsewhere. He was just trying to be responsible and help, even if he couldn't really understand what made the people around him act like they did.
You're seeing it from the wrong perspective. This IS their version of affection and friendship. It's simply how their brains work. I'm sure you know couples and friends who constantly fight and argue and yet never breakup or stop hanging out. Same here. This IS them getting along. They're a dysfunctional couple, one where arguing and breaking balls and name calling and yelling are how they say "good luck, I'll miss you, take care, I love you". One of many in Deadwood.
i feel like the writers of the show had plans for Charlie and Jane down the road but HBO being the piece of grime that they are cancelled the show and now we get a 2 hour movie conclusion whooptidoo

Charlie will live a very long time after this having died in 1915 in Panama age 73. Yes 73 not to old for now days, but for 1915? That's a old man.
Its really great to watch a great actor and actress practice their craft. thanks for uploading.

How a show like this gets cancelled is a mystery. Amazing show.
@Hobgoblin1975 Amen!
Calamity Jane did not act that way.
And Abraham Lincoln did not hunt vampires. So what?
Robin Brennan How do you know. Didn’t he attend seances?
@@ronniebishop2496 I stand corrected.
Robin Brennan I’m just kidding, I don’t know, I just heard they did attend seances after their little boy died.
@@ronniebishop2496 No problem. I was just going with the joke.
