I didn't know him by name, but as soon as he started talking, I was 10 years old again. That voice is the standard by which I still follow as an announcer.

Grew up listening to him as the ABC announcer & thought he had the coolest voice ever. Still do! I especially liked his intros to Prime time shows & the ABC Sunday Night Movie 🍿 I only wish more ppl knew who he was cuz he was a broadcasting Legend.

What a great voice! He was actually very charming, had a great sense of humor, was quick to swear when he made a mistake, but was such a professional behind the microphone.

I remember hearing Ernie's voice on the old, old _America's Funniest Home Videos_ with Bob Saget. The week that he died, the episode of _America's Funniest Home Videos_ that aired was dedicated to him.

Wow. It's amazing by simply listening to one man's voice can so easily and quickly take you back to a place and time. But not just any voice. Ernie Anderson's voice, one that was listened to my millions of people every day in the 70's and 80's. A foul mouthed perfectionist he was and we wouldn't want it any other way.

At 7:00 Ernie does his Roots voice promo. And at 8:25 he does his Winds Of War voice promo. Today 3/7/22 on the Smartless podcast, Ernie's son - director Paul Thomas Anderson - mentions Roots and The Winds Of War in a single sentence (at 1 hour, three minutes, 39 seconds).

Thanks much for the upload. I loved Ernie when he became Carol Burnett's announcer, and of course on ABC. I always liked the way he said, "The *Love* Boat."

Rose Marie saw or heard Ernie and Tim Conway's comedy while she was in Cleveland decades ago and told her Hollywood friends about them and got Tim here and he got Ernie to join him.

This last part is a study for anyone in voice acting or voice work. He put a special emphasis on each of the shows he mentioned in the bit....this was play, but to me and others in the biz...it's a big tip about breaking down the copy and find the money word and put some polish on it everytime you read it. Total pro moment ...I'm taking lots of notes....now what was that warmup phrase he did again....Hajawabba something....LOL

When I was a kid, I remember him doing a promo for "The Bastard", a mini-series. Ernie Anderson really seemed to enjoy getting a chance to say "John Jakes'... THE BASTARD!" on TV and being a kid, I laughed my ass off every time that promo came on. When the show came on, I didn't watch it, but the following Monday at school when it was my turn to stand in front of my classmates and describe what I did over the weekend, I tried to imitate Ernie Anderson and said "I watched the mini-series event based on the best-selling novel by John Jakes... THE BASTARD!"
Everyone busted out laughing but I still got a letter sent home to my parents, blah, blah, blah -it was worth it.

One thing he says here is that the audiences on the West Coast are "Polyester City" and "mad Lawrence Welk is off." Ernie was the announcer on Carol Burnett, and whenever there's a shot of the audience there, it's always a rainbow of polyester pantsuits and leisure suits. It does look like the Lawrence Welk audience.

And he wasn't lying when he said that screw-ups prompted him to swear a lot. (NSFW obviously)
