    For those who remember, "This bicentennial minute is brought to you by..." Ernie recorded this one line that ran multiple times every night in primetime for a year. Not sure if it's true, but apparently this one line earned him 1 million dollars in, back in 1976. Perhaps the best V.O. artist of all time.

      Well.... I see I wasn't the only Ghoulardi fan. When we had a house trailer back in the day in the western part of Lake Erie we used to watch Ghoulardi on Friday nights out of a Cleveland TV station. Turn Blue ratfinks!

    One of my favorite things about the internet is now that I'm grown up I can go back and learn about these things and people that were ephemeral parts of my childhood. I saw an episode of Animaniacs recently ("Guardin' the Garden") that had an intro voiceover that I immediately recognized as "that ABC promo guy" (they even made a joke about it). Ernie Anderson is probably my favorite V/O guy ever, but it's something I never would have thought about without youtube or the internet.

    In their time, there were two voices who were totally identified with their networks: Ernie Anderson and ABC, and Danny Dark at NBC. Both gone, but not forgotten.

    Even as kids in the early 60's, we recognized that Ernie Anderson had something special--and slightly off kilter--as he hosted lousy, late-night horror films in a weird characterization known as Ghoulardi--a bit he invented that both thrilled the young and scandalized the staid public of Cleveland, Ohio.
    People such as Elvira, mistress of the night, owe a great deal to him.

    • @maxreger100
      @maxreger100 4 роки тому +1

      @Oona Craig He was irreverent. I remember his Captain Penny imitation and his reference to "Dorty!". My family left Cleveland before the s**t hit the fan regarding Ms. Fuldheim.

    • @jackgrattan1447
      @jackgrattan1447 4 роки тому +1

      @Oona Craig Dorothy did no such thing. She was cool with it. Ernie said so. After Ernie left town, the Ghoul goofed on her for the next 30 plus years, and she didn't say or do a thing about it.
      Mike Douglas on the other hand was very ass hurt about it.

    Imagine Ernie Anderson appearing on another network where Danny Dark does voiceovers! If you remember Ernie Anderson getting interviewed on another show back around the same time period, he described Danny Dark saying 'The Loooooove Boat' as "close, but no cigar".
